I spend the rest of the class feeling uncomfortable with him behind me. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end with every move he makes. I don’t know why his presence disturbs me so much now, it didn’t before. Will I have to get used to it because he won’t leave me alone? I hope he’ll get tired and stop looking at me, that’s what I’ll pray for before going to sleep.
I started to feel him touching my hair and jumped out of my seat at his gesture. Again, I liked it, although this time it came from Donovan and not Travis.
“What the hell are you doing?” I muttered, removing his hand from my strand.
“What do you use to wash your hair?” he blurts out of nowhere.
“It’s none of your business,” I exclaim, getting hysterical so he leaves me alone. It’s bad enough that he’s behind me, and now he’s touching me… This isn’t going very well for me.
“It looks like you wash it with wax.”
No, he didn’t just say what I think he did… No… What the fuck did he just say?! What an asshole. How can he make me angry so quickly?
“Why don’t you just suck my…” I try to finish, but I’m interrupted.
“Miss Brown, do you have something to add to the class?” Holt says.
I know I should respond with something like “No, I’m sorry,” but my big mouth and I can’t stop once we start.
“As a matter of fact, can you move Donovan to another seat? He won’t stop bothering me.”
I feel like I’m in third grade, but I can’t go on like this. When he doesn’t touch me, his mere proximity makes my skin crawl. And when he touches me, my skin burns and my heart pounds. This is not fucking normal. It’s just an allergy, the bastard gives me an allergic reaction combined with a nervous breakdown.
“I didn’t say anything during the whole class,” he defends himself calmly, leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed.
“Liar,” I argue.
“Crazy.”
“Bite me.”
“You wanted me to suck you off, right?”
“That’s enough!” Holt shouts, silencing both of us. “You two are going to see the principal. Go now.”
“Why? He’s the one bothering me,” I shout indignantly as Donovan was already grabbing his backpack to leave.
“Walk, Brown!” the old lady shouts again. I grab my backpack and storm out of the classroom in anger.
“Old cocksucker,” I mutter to myself, but the idiot behind me hears it.
“Mouth shut,” he says with a half-smile. It’s clear that he’s enjoying this. “But yeah, you’re right. She’s an old cocksucker.”
“Stop dragging me into this, Donovan. This is important to me, don’t involve me in your little game because I don’t want to be there. I want to get through the year without any problems, and you’re not making it easy for me.”
“You’re the one who put yourself where you wanted to be. You were the one who followed me that day, nobody else but you.”
He was right, but if I had known that following him would lead to some strange kind of relationship with him, I wouldn’t have done it, no doubt about it. “You exasperate me, seriously.”
“I don’t really like you either, but we’re in a tough world, and I don’t amuse myself with just anything.”
“Can’t you find another plaything?”
“I already have you. What more do I need?”
“Fuck off,” I say. He shrugs and turns around to leave. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“I’m not going there. I’ll go home or do something else. See you, Alicia, have fun there.”
Oh no. I’m not going to handle this on my own, he’s going to suffer the consequences with me. I take out the sandwich I packed this morning from my bag and approach him.
“Wait, Donovan, I’m tired of this… Can we just forget that I followed you and get along from now on?”
“I don’t do well with that friendship shit, I’m not interested in having friends, and I don’t want…” He sees the sandwich wrapper and looks between it and me. “What’s that?”
“Well, I don’t have a white flag, so this is my peace offering.”
I open the wrapper and show it to him. I’m winning. He makes a move as if to take it from me.
“What’s in it?” he asks, pretending to grab it.
I open the sandwich to check, and I see that it’s loaded with dressing… Perfect, just what I wanted.
I throw all the food in his face and hair. Whatever didn’t hit him ended up on the floor. My hands are completely dirty, but I don’t care. Donovan’s look of disbelief is the only relevant thing, and my stomach starts to hurt from holding in my laughter.
“Well, look at yourself in the mirror, and you’ll know,” I reply. He smiles, but there’s no trace of humor in that smile.
“Run,” he simply says, and that’s what I do. Going down the path we were supposed to take from the beginning. He runs fast, so when we reach the hallway to the principal’s office, he grabs me and pushes me against the wall. He takes my wrist and presses me against the wall. He has a thing for cornering me every time we’re together, and honestly, it doesn’t bother me as much as it did the first few times.
“You think this is funny?” he asks, wetting his lips with his tongue, clearly angry, but I won’t deny that that move was very sexy. I look at all the dressing and pieces of ham in his hair, his face, and his shirt. I nod, unable to contain my laughter, but he doesn’t let go of me. I thought I saw him smile, and when he straightens up again, to make sure I’m not hallucinating, he wipes away any trace of what I thought I saw. He runs his hand over his face and hair. Before I can react, he runs his hand across my face, leaving all the mess on me.
Disgusting.
“Now who’s having fun?” he asks.
“I’m no worse off than you.”
“That’s what you think, right now you’re perfect for a makeup commercial photo shoot. ‘Mustard goes perfectly with the color of your cheeks, look, this girl tried our product and approves it.'”
Yeah, okay, I might be red with anger, and I’m just a hair’s breadth away from biting his neck to make him let go.
Just then, the principal comes out and looks at us in astonishment. We’re surely a mess. Donovan lets go of me, and for a moment, I feel the strange sensation of wanting his skin touching mine again. I quickly push that thought out of my head, and we both approach the principal.
“You’re not getting away, bad boy,” I declare, totally satisfied that my plan worked.
“Fuck off.”
“I have my tricks too,” I wink at him, and he just radiates hatred towards me.
