Chapter 57

“Who is it?” Nick, with his arms around my waist, glanced at my phone. It was Eva, trying to persuade me to join her at a university party for the umpteenth time today, a particularly exhausting Friday that I intended to spend lying next to Nick. The whole week with him had been dreamlike, and I had no intention of letting it end.
We weren’t fighting, which was a luxury we needed to take advantage of. We were each other’s calm, always knowing how to smooth things over when everything was about to splash in our faces. It was something we were slowly learning, and it was comforting. We were working on being a healthy couple, as much as possible for us.
We were each other’s personal medicine.
“Eva invited me to a party, but I don’t think we should…” “Don’t want to go…”
“Do you want to go?” He cut me off with a sweet grimace and a kiss on top of my ear. My skin tingled.
No. I didn’t want to. But maybe he did… We’d been almost the whole week in the apartment or at the university. In the end, he managed to get back in, and I didn’t ask how, I didn’t want to know if it had anything to do with money.
We hadn’t gone out at all. Maybe he missed going to parties, and he didn’t because of me. I didn’t want him to get bored, nor did I want him to refrain from doing things he wanted to do.
“Do you want to?” I asked softly, understandingly, and convincingly enough that I wouldn’t be uncomfortable with going.
“I don’t know. I’m just saying you didn’t enjoy college as much as I did, and parties are one of its perks.” His eyes locked onto mine with a playful spark.
I tried to decipher what he wanted, but as always, his thoughts were a locked box to me, and he never gave me the combination.
“Well, let’s go,” I concluded.
Three hours later, we were at the address Eva had sent me.
Nick had dressed up a bit more than usual but still had the bad boy touch to his jacket.
In contrast, I was in jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt. I thought that by dressing like this, some alarm would go off in Nick’s head, indicating that if I was this casual about going to a damn party, it was because I wasn’t dying to be in a place surrounded by people I don’t know, drunk, and far from my beautiful, warm, soft comfort zone.
No alarms went off anywhere.
I hated him.
We both got out of the car, and he took my hand.
The house was too small for a party, but everyone seemed drunk or high enough not to notice their bodies being completely crushed by others.
I wasn’t.
“You’re here!” Eva hugged me from behind and kissed me on the cheek. “I thought you weren’t going to come. You know, Nick and you are boring.”
“We’re not boring, he wants to be with me, and I with him,” I replied, sounding more defensive than I had intended.
I looked at Nick, and his lips curled into a smile. He had heard what I said. He kissed my temple and placed his arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him.
“You’re sexy when you’re defensive…” he whispered into my ear so that no one else would hear.
I tiptoed and leaned into him. “And you are all the time, please stop.”
He tilted his head back as if looking at the sky and laughed.
“Guys, not that I don’t love you two together or anything, but can you leave the sexual talk for when you’re alone in the apartment and come inside with me?”
We both started laughing and followed her. There was hardly any room to move in the house.
“Do you want to dance?” Nick shouted over the music. I shook my head and scrunched up my nose.
“Too many people,” I yelled back.
“That’s what makes it more interesting,” a flirtatious smile appeared on his face.
I shook my head again. He grimaced and asked if I wanted something to drink. Eva and I both said yes, and we lost him in the crowd.
“How are things going with Mr. Sexy?” Eva started swaying and moving her hips.
“Good, this week has been great,” I replied with a stupidly large smile on my face.
“That’s great for you! Now, sweet Samantha, if I were you, I’d mark my man,” I looked at her confused as her expression switched from amusement to… anger?
She tilted her head towards where Ale had gone. I turned my head, and what I saw painfully changed my smile. He was talking to Cady. Actually, he was taking a drink while she was talking. No, sorry, to put it better, she was flirting with him.
I was trying to calm down. Nick wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was quite ready to calm down until she touched his arm, but not with her hand, with her breasts. He quickly pushed her away, but by then I was already heading towards them, furious.
I pushed her and stood in front of Nick. I placed the two glasses he was about to bring us as gently as possible and grabbed his hand pretty hard. He was trying to hold back laughter.
“Do you want to dance, love?” Nick and I both widened our eyes at the simple term – Love. However, I think it fulfilled its purpose. I said it loud enough for Cady to hear.
“Love?” Cady asked, laughing. “Nick would never date a kid like you, and besides, you’re his sister if I’m not mistaken.”
Nick stepped in front of Cady. This is going to be good…
“She’s my girlfriend, and in fact, we live together. Don’t mess with her again. If I find out you or any of your little friends do anything to her, you’ll deal with me, Cady. You know I don’t play fair, and you’ll lose.”
We left there, and I saw Cady for the last time. She stood motionless, staring at the spot where Nick had been. I still wanted to kill her for the simple fact that she touched my boyfriend.
It feels strange to say the word-Boyfriend-, even thinking it feels too unreal.
I think we made it to the center of the house, the place where there were most people.
Nick abruptly pulled me towards him. We were chest to chest. His hands went straight to my hips and pushed them towards his. He started moving in rhythm with the music, and I just tried to follow him.
The people around us pushed us even closer. Now I see why he said it would be more interesting.
In a single move, he made me turn around. His already labored chest was hitting my back.
“So, love, huh?” he asked laughing, very close to my ear. He bit it and kept moving. Was it normal that just from dancing, I felt my legs were going to give out at any moment?
“I liked how it sounded,” he continued, whispering so sensually it made me feel like I was losing every nerve in my body from an overload of sensations. I shuddered even more when I felt something growing against my butt. I’ve slept with Nick many times to know what it was.
“Don’t get used to it,” I wasn’t sure about the tone I used. It might have been a moan, but I’m not sure.
“I want to get used to it,” he said, then pulled me closer. We both moaned this time.
Now a little braver, I started moving my hips even more sensually and quickly. I put my hand on his neck and the back of my head on his chest. His breathing became even more ragged. I think mine did too.
After ten minutes of dancing, we were both sweaty and flushed.
We looked at each other, and the first thing I could interpret from his gaze and his rather serious face was “Let’s go to the apartment.” Or it could be that I’m so hormonal I’m interpreting that myself. Anyway, I need to go to the apartment, either to take a shower to relieve myself a bit, or finally do it with Nick.
I like the second option more…
