“Mom!” Georgia’s heart was in her throat as she anxiously watched Kayden.
“Mrs. Adams, you shouldn’t say that,” Sheldon interjected. “I actually think Kayden is quite wise. I believe he’ll be successful one day.”
He quickly added, “By the way, I’m planning to set up a branch office here in Hiphia. How about this? Kayden could come work at my company. I’ll give you a good position with a monthly salary of 15, 000 dollars. What do you say?”
In one breath, Sheldon went from praising Kayden as a future success to offering him a job.
It was nothing short of an insult.
Kayden looked at Sheldon and asked, “15, 000 dollars a month?”
Sheldon nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, I believe you are worth that much! And if you do well, the salary can increase. 20, 000, 30, 000 – it’s all possible.”
“You’re Georgia’s husband, so I can’t mistreat you, right?” Sheldon added coldly, implying that Kayden was just a trophy husband, only getting this salary because of his wife’s connection to Sheldon.
Kayden shook his head slightly and said, “I’m sorry, but I don’t need money.”
His words stunned everyone in the room. Who doesn’t need money?
In this society, money was everything. Even the world’s richest people were still desperately trying to make more. For Kayden to say he didn’t need money – it sounded like pure nonsense.
Scarlett quickly said, “What do you mean you don’t need money? Do you have money? 15, 000 dollars is a good salary, equivalent to three months’ income for most people.”
“Yeah, Kayden, are you really that rich?” Leah chimed in. “Everything in this world has a price. You can’t do anything without it. If you’re really so rich, why don’t you buy us a villa in the South of the City?”
“Leah!” Georgia glared at her sister, who stuck out her tongue in response.
“Alright, I can buy a villa in South Development Zone. Consider it an early anniversary gift,” Kayden said solemnly.
Scarlett nearly burst out laughing. This idiot was truly ridiculous, claiming he could buy a villa in the South of the City!
The cheapest villas there cost at least 30 million dollars, with the most expensive reaching 100 million. It was where Hiphia’s elites lived, mostly billionaires.
Kayden’s words were getting more and more absurd and shameless.
Scarlett sneered, “You just said you don’t need money. So tell us, how much money do you have?”
Kayden shook his head slightly and said, “I haven’t counted exactly, but probably a few trillion.”
Georgia: “…”
Scarlett: “…”
Leah: “…”
Sheldon: “…”
All four stared at Kayden, speechless.
“Pfft!” Leah was the first to burst out laughing. “Kayden, you’re so cute! Even when you’re jealous, you’re adorable!”
“A few trillion? I doubt you even have a few thousand,” Scarlett said, trying not to be too harsh.
Knowing they didn’t believe him, Kayden sighed and said, “Forget it. I’m going to rest.”
He then walked towards the bedroom.
Sheldon glanced at the embarrassed Georgia and said, “Your husband has quite a sense of humor!”
“No kidding!” Leah added. “The richest person in Seclela is only worth about 2 billion dollars. If Kayden had a few trillion, wouldn’t that make my sister the richest person in the world?”
This made Georgia even more embarrassed. Kayden was always saying such awkward things. It was bad enough that her husband wasn’t as impressive as her ex, but he also had to say these outlandish things, making her feel utterly humiliated.
“Hmph, that’s just how that idiot always behaves. No manners at all. Sheldon is a guest, for God’s sake. So rude,” Scarlett continued to express her dissatisfaction with Kayden.
After Kayden entered the room, Leah secretly followed him.
Once inside, Leah sat down and asked seriously, “Kayden, are you really going to buy a villa for my sister? In the South of the City!”
Kayden nodded slightly and said, “A king never lies.”
This made Leah burst out laughing. “A king never lies” – it seemed Kayden was really getting into character.
After sitting for a while, Sheldon felt it was time to leave.
He stood up and said, “Mrs. Adams, Georgia, it’s getting late. You should rest. I’ll be heading back now.”
“Oh!” Scarlett called out. “Sheldon, did that idiot offend you? Please don’t mind him. He’s just a fool who speaks and acts without thinking.”
“Not at all! Kayden is very amusing,” Sheldon said sarcastically.
Finally, he turned his gaze to Georgia’s face and said, “Georgia, I’ll be going then. If Kayden changes his mind, he can call me anytime. He’s welcome to start working at my company whenever he wants.”
Though he said this, he was subtly belittling Kayden.
Georgia nodded, and then saw Sheldon out.
As soon as Sheldon left, she stormed into the bedroom, fuming.
Seeing Georgia’s anger, Leah quietly slipped out.
“Kayden, what nonsense were you spouting?” Georgia asked angrily.
Kayden looked bewildered and said, “I wasn’t talking nonsense.”
“You say you weren’t, but I’ve told you before to be honest when you speak. I know you want to make me proud, but don’t you realize your way of talking is wrong? Why do you keep deceiving yourself and others? Saying you have trillions, and that you’ll buy a villa in the South of the City. Do you know how expensive those villas are? They cost tens of millions each.”
Faced with Georgia’s barrage of questions, Kayden blinked and said, “Haven’t I told you before? I’ve never lied to you. I really do have a lot of money, and I can buy a villa there.”
Georgia blinked and took a deep breath. “I know you are displeased, but what happened between Sheldon and I are bygones. I wanted to show him that I’m doing well now. But instead, I have a husband who tells lies all the time. How can I convince anyone I’m doing well when you’re acting like this?”
