Serena slowly opened her heavy eyelids, but everything appeared blurry to her. She groaned as she sat up in bed. She palmed and rubbed her eyes before removing her hands and looking around the room again.
The room does not look familiar in any way to her. Okay, what’s happening? She thought and quickly got down from the bed. She went to the door and tried opening it, but it couldn’t open up.
Hope I am not outside the castle, Serena thought, biting her fingers as she tried to recall what happened. It took a while, but she eventually remembered.
She collapsed while drinking with Martins. Moon goddess! What was that? Serena scratched her hair as she wondered.
What happened to me? Where is Martins? Is he okay? Serena kept wondering as she paced about the room. She paused and knocked on the door.
“Is anyone there? Please, someone should get me out of here,” Serena pleaded as she placed her ear on the door to listen. Everything stayed calm and relaxed.
It doesn’t seem like anyone is around here, Serena thought, fear creeping into her. How did I get here? How? Serena asked herself worriedly.
She searched her body to see if she could find her cellphone but didn’t. I left it in my room at the castle. I left it there; Serena realized she did not have her phone.
She walked back to the bed and sat down.
I’m very, very tired. I don’t know why I’m tired, and I don’t know why I am here.
How am I going to escape this room? Gosh, Isaac, I wish you were here with me. Serena sobbed and got up again. She attempted to mind-link her brother, Isaac, but failed. It seems like there is a powerful force blocking and disconnecting her from everyone.
She stood up and started pacing around the room again. When she realized no one was coming for her, she returned to the door and began pounding it hard with the little strength she had.
She continued hitting the door until she felt a presence right outside her door. Someone started unlocking the door, and then the door opened. Serena stepped aside for the mean-looking guy who opened the door.
“W… who are you?” Serena questioned.
“You’ll live if you remain quiet. Don’t disturb me again and let me rest peacefully,” the mean-looking guy warned before shutting the door.
“Wait! Wait, please.” Serena begged as she tried to open the door, but the mean-looking guy opened the door and flung her to the bed with a hand.
“Don’t try anything stupid. You’ll end up dying before the plan even kicks off. Be warned,” the mean-looking guy warned for the second time before shutting and locking the door.
The whole event left Serena speechless and confused. What plan is he talking about? Serena wondered as she sat up on her bed.
And I’ll get killed if I disturb him again? But who is he? What exactly am I doing here? What on earth am I needed for, or is this Kate’s plan to torment me for killing our mother? So many thoughts kept running through Serena’s head.
No. Kate. She can’t be the one doing this. She can’t even get into the king’s castle. How, then, will she be able to do this? No. She is not the one. So who was it? After drinking the wine Martins offered, I became like this. Was I the only one, or did he also become intoxicated like me?
Moon Goddess, I need an answer. I’m going crazy here. I don’t know what to do.
Would you please save me? Don’t let them think I ran away a second time. They might think like that, and when I’m finally rescued, the king will waste no time in killing me. And he might even kill Isaac before he kills me. No, King Zed won’t do such evil.
He is not evil at all. He won’t kill that easily, or will he? He won’t. He is not evil; I’ve seen the type of person he is. He won’t kill.
But Martin’s father is about to die because of him. His mother is already dead. No. No. Why am I thinking this way? I shouldn’t feel this way. I should think of a plan, a way to get out of here without anyone noticing. I need to leave here.
I have to tidy up the king’s room. He instructed me. I also have to speak to Isaac. I have to get out of here. I have to try. With determination, Serena stood up and walked to the door. She held the door handle and started hitting the door continuously.
“Get me out of here! Get me out of here now! I want to leave!” Serena screamed as she kicked and hit the door.
She felt two presence outside the door. The door opened, and Serena came face to face with two guys in black.
One from earlier. Serena lowered herself and tried passing through the space between their legs, but they caught her and pulled her back to the bed. The mean-looking one took a tape, and they tied Serena to the bed.
“Shot her with the syringe. Let her sleep. I can’t handle her, she is stubborn.” The mean-looking guy said to the other guy.
The guy left and came back with a syringe. They injected the content into her vein. In seconds, Serena’s eyes closed up.
“Give the boss a call. Tell him what happened just now,” the mean-looking guy ordered again. The second guy brought out his phone and called his boss.
“What is it?” Their boss asked.
“Boss, she woke up and tried running, so we made her sleep, ” the guy informed.
“Hope you didn’t give her too much of that drug?” Their boss questioned.
“Of course not, Boss. We know how important she is, alive,” the guy laughed as he replied.
“Good. Make sure she is still alive, and do not tell my son she just woke up. When he asks, tell him she still hasn’t woken up, ” their boss instructed.
“I will,” he replied.
The call disconnected, and they went outside after making sure that Serena was deeply asleep.
*
Serena opened her eyes when she felt someone touching her cheek, her neck. She groaned when a sharp pain hit her. She tried moving but realized she couldn’t move.
Then she turned towards the direction of the person in the room with her. Her eyes widened.
“Martins!” She gasped out.
“Hey,” Martins smiled and kissed her forehead.
Serena looked around the room. What are we doing here? Who are those men? Are you okay? Hope those guys didn’t hurt you?” Serena asked all at once.
“I’m okay,” Martins chuckled. A look of guilt washed across his face.
“How are you?” Martins asked back.
“I don’t know how I feel. Those guys injected something into me that made me fall asleep, and I’m fragile. What on earth happened, Martins? Why are we here?” Serena narrated then asked.
Martins adjusted back on the bed. He doesn’t know how to answer her question.
“They… they injected something into you?” Martins asked.
“Yes. I don’t know what that is, but I suspect it’s very harmful.” Serena answered.
Martins nodded. “You aren’t answering my question, Martins. How did we get here?” Serena asked, raising her voice this time.
“I… I don’t know. I just found myself here too,” Martins mumbled, looking away from her.
“Could you help me get up? You aren’t tied up?” Serena realized this as she looked at Martins.
“Yeah, right.” Mart shook his head and began untying her. Serena groaned as she sat up in bed after being untied.
“Thank you,” she said before turning to face the door.
“Have you tried opening the door? Oh, you weren’t here the last time when I tried escaping. I was not sure you were brought here with me, now I am glad I did not escape alone. I’m happy you are here with me so that we can escape together this time,” Serena said, smiling.
Martins remained quiet. “Hold on, where were you taken to? You weren’t here with me; that means you were in another room. Where were you?” Serena asked, getting down from the bed.
“In another room,” Martins gulped and replied. He watched as Serena reached the door.
He knows the door is unlocked, but there are his father’s men all around the house. Serena got to the door and tried opening it, and it opened.
“Woah. It opened. It opened, Mart,” Serena jumped excitedly.
She went back to him and pulled him from the bed. “Let’s go. Why are you still sitting down there?” Serena worriedly asked. She also noticed that Martins hadn’t been staring at her in the eye. He avoided eye contact all along, but then she didn’t give it much thought. She only wants to escape the unknown house with him.
“Let’s go,” Serena whispered to him.
She quietly walked out of the room, pulling him along with her. There was no one in the hallway, and it relieved Serena a lot. She tried to continue her journey, and when she took another step forward, Martins refused to go with her. Instead, he withdrew his hand and stepped back.
Serena confusedly turned to look at him. “Are you scared?” She asked. She can’t think of any other reason why he doesn’t want to run away with her.
“No,” Martins muttered, looking away from her.
“Then let’s go. I’ll get us out of here, okay? Those guys are big and powerful. We should run while we still have the time,” Serena spoke so nicely and softly.
Martins shut his eyes tightly. He wasn’t expecting this at all from her. He thought she’d catch on to what happened once she opened her eyes. He didn’t expect that she could trust him to this extent.
It made him feel horrible. It drove him to the brink of tears. Her innocence made him want to cry. He pulled her closer with one hand and hugged her. His reaction, of course, surprised Serena.
After hugging her for a few minutes, he pulled away from the hug and stepped out of the room.
“I’m sorry, Serena, I had to do this. You can get angry now but don’t hate me, please,” Martins cooed.
Serena kept staring at him, puzzled. What is he saying? She kept wondering as she stared at him. Just then, his father’s men showed up from one end of the hallway.
“They are coming. Let’s go,” Serena held tightly onto Martin’s hand and tried running away with him as she ignored every other thing he said.
She was going to ask him about it once they were both out of danger but Martins stood his ground just like he did a few minutes ago.
Serena took a fearful look at him. “I am sorry,” he said softly, pulling his hand away from hers.
His father’s men then got to them. They attempted to take Serena, but she didn’t wait for it to happen. She turned and made for the other side of the hallway but she didn’t go far before they caught her and dragged her into the room. They started tying her up again.
“Don’t tie her up!” Martins barked at them.
They apologized and then left Serena on the bed before locking the door. They made to take the keys, but Martins stopped them.
“The keys,” he demanded.
“Um… I am sorry, but the boss doesn’t want us to hand the key to you,” one of them muttered with his head low.
“Why didn’t you lots tell me you shot her with a syringe earlier? She had woken up, but you put her back to sleep!” Martins snarled.
“We are sorry, Boss…” One tried explaining, but Martins landed a slap across his face.
“Don’t ever do anything again without my permission. I brought her here; do not hurt her or I will kill you with my bare hands,” Martins warned and threatened.
The four men bowed their heads to him. “Now, the keys. I don’t trust you guys one bit,” Martins demanded.
The one with the key handed it over to him. “Thank you,” Martins remarked sarcastically before leaving for the kitchen.
