Isaac returned home to find Kendrick devouring a plate of noodles in the sitting room. “Hey, you are back. How did it go?” Kendrick asked, dropping his bowl of noodles.
“It went well. What do you think?” Isaac replied.
“Okay, the pills. Did they work?” Kendrick turned to him in question.
“It did suppress my wolf pretty well. Thanks for that anyway,” Issac replied.
“So, I’m guessing you’re moving with the initial plan, right?”
“Yes, for now, I’ll continue with the initial plan. It doesn’t mean she won’t get what she deserves. It won’t be much fun if I end everything now,” Isaac said.
Kendrick chuckled. “You are becoming eviler with each passing day.”
Isaac scoffed. “Evil? I’m just giving her a portion of the medicine. I need to sleep right now. No one should disturb me,” Isaac said as he walked in the direction of his room.
He walked into his room, took a bath then laid down on his bed. He picked up his phone and thought of calling Serena but dropped the phone. He doesn’t want to put her in trouble by contacting her first.
Who knows, the king might be around her.
*
Serena returned to her room late in the night. She laid down on the bed to sleep, but sleep wasn’t forthcoming.
Granny Felicia had told someone to inform her that the king would be traveling out tomorrow and that she was to wake up early and help him with his preparation.
The thought of King Zed traveling made her happy and sad. Happy that she will be able to spend time with Martins and sad that… She doesn’t exactly know why she is unhappy, but the feeling is just inside her.
She picked up her phone and set her alarm to 5:00 a. m. She thought of calling Isaac but decided to get some sleep instead. She dropped her phone and closed her eyes to sleep and the moment she did this, Martin’s face popped into her head. This caused her to smile.
I have a boyfriend now, the idea remained in her head.
*
Serena lazily opened her eyes when her alarm started shouting for her to wake up. She groaned out in displeasure as she slowly sat up on her bed. She rubbed her eyes, picked up her phone, and wondered why she had set the alarm in the first place.
King Zed! Oh shit! I need to get to his chambers now, Serena suddenly remembered.
She got down from her bed, ran into the bathroom, brushed her teeth, washed her face, and repacked her hair before running out of her room. The hallway to the king’s chambers was quiet, but she summoned up the courage and continued walking until she got to his chambers. The guards, as usual, were standing guard there. They let her in without any questions.
Immediately, she stepped into his room; a familiar feeling overwhelmed her. She saw the king standing in front of his window like he always does.
“Good morning, Master,” she greeted as she bowed slightly.
“Go prepare my bath,” his tone wasn’t too hard or soft either.
Serena bowed again before rushing into the bathroom to prepare his bath. She came out after that.
“Master, your bath is ready,” she announced.
The king turned away from the window. He went to his closet and picked out a dress. He kept the shirt and the trousers he brought out on his bed, and he also picked out a muffler before pulling off his upper wear. Serena stood with her head bowed. She has learned never to look at him, especially when he is undressing.
She has also come to understand that King Zed doesn’t give a fuck about who sees his nakedness. He doesn’t care, and she sometimes wonders why.
After undressing, he walked past her to the bathroom. “Master, do you need me in there?” Serena asked.
“I don’t.” King Zed answered.
Serena shifted uncomfortably on one foot. He is acting strangely, and she doesn’t know why.
King Zed came out from the bathroom, and he dressed himself up without asking for help. It made Serena feel more uneasy.
Why isn’t he asking me for anything? He should ask me to leave or to do something for him. He isn’t asking me for anything. What is wrong? Did I offend him in any way? Serena couldn’t help but wonder.
“While I’m gone,” King Zed suddenly started. Serena snapped her head up in his direction.
“I need you to always come inside my room and tidy it up. Do not ever step out of the first gate. Do you understand me?” King Zed ordered and asked.
“Y… yes master, I understand,” Serena answered.
“Don’t ever leave this estate. That is an order, and you must not break it, else you’ll be punished severally.” King Zed added.
“Yes, master. I won’t. I will follow your order,” Serena gulped as she replied.
“And also be careful,” King Zed murmured the last part, but due to her werewolf hearing, she heard him. Her heart flipped at his words.
“Are you… when are you going to be back, master?” She asked.
“Why?” King Zed asked.
“Forgive me. I am only concerned,” Serena lowered her head in reply.
A few minutes later, King Zed spoke up again.
“In three days at most.” He supplied an answer.
Serena lifted her head to look at him. She thought he wasn’t going to answer, and he just surprised her by answering her question. She nodded.
“What did I ask you to do?” King Zed questioned.
“You asked me to tidy-”
“Not that,” King Zed cut her off.
“You asked me to remain here at your castle. You also asked that I’ll be more careful,” Serena answered. She almost giggled but held it in.
“I am asking you again. Be careful. If you aren’t careful enough, you’ll also be penalized,” King Zed stated.
Serena chuckled and quickly covered her mouth. Are you that worried that I would get hurt? It was at the tip of her tongue to ask, but she held it in.
“Yes, master. I understand,” Serena said, smiling softly.
“You can leave now.” King Zed waved for her to leave. She bowed again before leaving his room.
She got to her door and paused, then she looked back towards the direction of the king’s chambers. What was that? Did King Zed show concern for my safety, or did I just imagine it? Serena asked herself. She opened her door room and entered, went straight to the bed to sleep again.
*
Serena opened her eyes when she heard her phone ring. She picked up her phone and answered it.
“Hey! You couldn’t even call and tell me that King Zed is no longer at his castle.” Isaac scolded.
Serena cleared the sleep from her eyes and sat up. “Isaac? I’m so sorry. I was sleeping, I fell asleep when I finished attending to him,” Serena mumbled.
“Did you sleep for how many hours? Do you know what time it is right now?” Isaac half yelled again.
“Oh, I don’t know,” Serena responded, shaking her head.
“It’s 1:30 pm. I’m sure you haven’t even eaten. Stand up, take your bath, and find something to eat now. Stop starving yourself. Call me back after you’ve done that. I have some things to discuss with you,” Isaac ordered before disconnecting the call.
Serena sighed, still feeling sleepy. But she stood up from the bed showered, and changed into another dress before walking out of her room to the kitchen.
She didn’t go to the kitchen at the mini-mansion but to the castle’s central kitchen. She knows servants barely go into that kitchen. She got to the kitchen and started preparing potato pottage.
After preparing it, she dished it onto a plate, sat down on a stool there, and started eating it. Someone suddenly coughed and this caused Serena to turn towards the doorway, and she found Issac standing there.
“Hey,” she called, standing up from the stool.
“You are eating without me. That is so unfair, you know,” Martins feigned annoyance as he walked closer to her.
“Uh… I… I…” Serena stuttered for words.
“It’s okay. I understand. You have been sleeping, I’ve been waiting for you to wake up, and now you are finally awake,” Martins said, smiling.
“Yes, I am,” Serena answered, lowering her head.
“I can see that, so how are you doing? Happy that King Zed won’t be here to bother us for three days?” Martins asked, taking another kitchen stool close to hers.
“Y… yes,” Serena answered, sitting down on her stool again.
“I’m thrilled. We can leave the castle and return whenever we want for those three days,” Martins chuckled.
“I… I’m not allowed to leave the castle, Martins. King Zed instructed me to stay here until he returns,” Serena revealed.
“What? Did he say that? Geez, he is such a joy kill. Most of the servants, as I speak, are going on vacation and are going to return in three days. Why does he want you to stay back?” Martins grumbled.
“To tidy up his room,” Serena answered.
“What? You can’t be serious,” Martins scoffed.
“That’s what he said, and I can’t disobey him. I’m sorry, and if you want to go on a vacation, it’s fine,” Serena mumbled.
Martins scoffed again before standing up. He brought out his phone and texted his father.
Dad. There is a problem. I don’t know if King Zed got a whiff of the situation. He instructed S not to leave the castle until he returned. How am I supposed to get her to the hideout house if she won’t even follow me outside the gate? Martins texted.
You’ll have to get her out at all costs. It’s a rare opportunity. Drug her or do something else. Just make sure you get her out before nightfall. A reply came.
Martins locked his phone, tucked it into his trouser pocket, and sighed after reading the reply. What am I going to do with you, Serena? He wondered as he stared at her.
“Okay, I’ll be back. We can at least celebrate here, inside the king’s castle, right?” Martins asked.
Serena shook her head, feeling guilty for disappointing him.
“I’ll be back,” Martins promised.
He left and went into his room. He brought out a wine, cocked it open, and poured a liquid substance into it before mixing it.
He took out a white paper, poured out the white-powered content from the paper, and licked it before returning the paper from where he took it.
He took the wine to the castle’s kitchen, where Serena sat waiting for him. She has finished her meal and has done the dishes before Martins showed up with the wine.
“Help me with two glasses,” Martins told her as he opened the wine.
Serena did as he said. She brought two wine glasses and handed them to him. He received the glasses and decanted wine into each glass cup.
“Let’s drink to our new relationship,” Martins said as he raised the cup to a toast.
Serena nodded, smiling softly at him as she watched him gulp down a little quantity of the wine. Serena did the same.
They kept drinking and talking until Serena started feeling dizzy and sleepy. It felt as if she hadn’t slept for years.
Serena lost her balance and tried to fall off the stool, but Martins caught her before she hit the floor.
He placed her over his shoulders, not bothered by the cameras around the castle. He knows the CCTV room is empty. Those people there have all gone on vacation; he knows that no one is watching him.
He walked to the car he moved with inside the castle and kept Serena at the backside before starting the vehicle. A few minutes later, he was driving out of the castle.
The guards didn’t bother to stop him. They all thought he was going on a vacation like everyone else, and they also didn’t see Serena who was unconscious at the back of the car.
He drove to the location where he parked his personal car and then switched vehicles before heading to the hideout house.
