Lily hasn’t been herself, as her mind kept drifting back to the Incident that happened with Olivia. The last thing Lily wanted for her daughter was to live the same life she lived, she made so many mistakes in the past, the smwe mistake got her pregnant with Olivia, but her birth was the only thing that wasn’t a mistake.
Olivia’s birth brought so much joy to her, as it was the only thing that kept her sane and rational. But letting her lead the same life, that’s the last thing she wanted.
Lily was still thinking, when the chuckling sound of the door startled her, she turned to see Hilda’s walking towards her, a fake smile etched on her face.
“What do you want?” Her angry voice asked, as she glared at her.
“You’re going to scare my baby with that look of yours.” Hilda teased, covering her stomach, as if shielding it from harm.
“See, I’m so concerned about you, that’s why I’ve come to visit you, ain’t I nice?” Hilda added, laughing at the end of her statement.
Lily’s spiteful gaze washed over her, it lingered on her stomach for a while before she looked away with disdain etched on her face.
Hilda grabbed a seat beside Lily and sat down, she seemed to think for a while before she started.
“You know, Larry and I went to the hospital and the scan said that my baby is a boy, good news right?” she smiled, rubbing her stomach.
“Why are you doing this?” Lily turned to look at her face.
“Doing what?”
“Why do you keep bringing up your child and Larry, what has that got to do with me? If you have nothing serious, just get going already, you disgust me.” Lily spat, unable to contain her anger.
“This has everything to do with you Lily, you know how desperately Larry needed a child, but you were so selfish and greedy that you didn’t give him any. I’m pregnant for him, something you couldn’t achieve, who knows, you wouldn’t be thrown out of the house if you at least had a child for him.” Hilda sneered, hatred laced in her voice.
“We both know that the child in there does not belong to Larry. You can fool everyone else, but me? I’m gone past that.”
Hilda stilled for a while, a sudden rush of adrenaline washed over her, as she tried to push out the fear that grew in her stomach. She chuckled.
“Tsk, are you speaking out of jealousy or what? Who else would have the baby if not Larry? We’ve been doing more intimate things recently.” Hilda smiled with a blush, as if remembering something.
Lily’s gaze lingered on her for a while, before she looked away. “Can you leave now?”
“Not yet. I’m generous and kind, even to people who don’t acknowledge me. I was wondering if Olivia said anything to you, I mean, like an explanation?”
“And why would you believe I’d want to talk to you about that?”
“Because, I can keep an eye on Olivia while you can’t. Who knows, she might be pregnant, Ava said she looks sick and is also skipping classes, does this ring a bell to your ear?” Hilda laughed, a sound laced with mockery.
“But, I can’t blame Olivia if she really got pregnant, obviously her child is a bastard, just like she is. If anyone is to be blamed, it should be you, you led a promiscuous life and ended up bringing her into the world, what’s next? You couldn’t even take care of her. Now she’s out there, being a good daughter by becoming a slut, just to get your bills settled. Pathetic.” Hilda spat, not hiding her hatred and disdain towards Lily.
Lily’s chest tightened, as much as she wanted to hold back her tears and anger, her heart ached, her eyes stung with bitter tears threatening to fall. She couldn’t let herself cry in front of Hilda, because that’s what she wanted, but she couldn’t fight it either. Fresh tears fell from her eyes, as she fell into a pool of her misery.
Hilda laughed scornfully, as her plan was finally working. She stood up and walked close to Lily, “I’ll get going, next time I come by, I’ll give you clues on how to end this misery, this guilt, this regret, so you won’t have to feel them anymore. Bye.”
With that, Hilda grabbed her purse and left the ward, leaving Lily to wallow in her misery.
Olivia was laid on a hospital bed, with a ventilator infused on her. Morgan sat on the couch next to the bed, his gaze not so patient.
The door was opened and the doctor walked in, he glanced at Morgan and looked away almost immediately.
“Speak already!” Morgan growled.
“The results say she’s four weeks gone.”
“How the fuck do you expect me to understand that? ”
“I’m sorry sir, I meant to say that she is four weeks pregnant.”
“What?”
Morgan stilled, his jaw tightened as he clenched and unclenched his fists, the doctor was out of words as he couldn’t tell what really was going on inside Morgan’s heart. His face refused to show and expose any emotion he was feeling at that moment.
He seemed to blink and nodded, “Good, make sure…”
“I can’t be pregnant, that’s not true, right doctor?” Olivia’s weak voice asked, suddenly interrupting Morgan’s words.
They didn’t even notice when she woke up, but she seemed to be awake when the doctor walked in, but decided to keep still to listen to the results.
The doctor glanced between Morgan and Olivia, before it finally rested on Olivia. He walked close to her, while Morgan turned around and was about to leave, but Olivia’s sob stopped him.
His grip on the door handle tightened, as his brows deepened.
“Ma’am being pregnant Is something most couples want, I don’t see why you don’t feel happy about it.”
“Happy? We’re not even a real couple in the first place. I don’t want this baby, I can’t have him, you can do something about it right?” Olivia sobbed, grabbing the doctor’s hands.
“You can leave.” Morgan said, referring to the doctor.
He turned around and went close to Olivia, his dark and aloof gaze fixed on her, when he was sure that the doctor had left, he started.
“You don’t get to decide what happens to the baby, he is my child.”
Olivia, filled with venom and hatred turned to glare at him, “It’s what you wanted right? This was your plan the whole time, how did I even think of you being good?” She spat, wiping her tears as they fell.
“Why do you act like this wasn’t in the deal? You pretend to be my wife and birth me a child and I take care of you and your mother’s bill, wasn’t it the deal?”
“It’s good you got pregnant pretty early, the earlier the better.” Morgan stated, his voice devoid of any emotion, as his gaze remained aloof and blank.
Olivia stared at him, her heart hurting like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand. Tears stung her eyes, as she clenched her fists, her fingers digging deep into her palms.
“I hate you!” She cursed, feeling betrayed.
