“Thank you once again for these,” Harper said waving the bag in the air. This was a miracle for her because she knew that things might be tough of she had to pay for the things herself.
“What about lunch?” Green asked. Harper hoped that he did not have interest in her after seeing her at the party and this was his way of coming on to her. “Don’t worry it’s on me, as I said I have something to ask you sooo…” he trailed off. She had been quiet trying to study his face.
He did not look nervous and he was not trying to avoid eye contact, maybe she was just being extra and he actually needed a favour from her. “Sure, we can,” she said. It was just a harmless lunch and they would have it where everyone could see. Nothing more than lunch.
“Okay then let’s go” he said turning and leading her to where he had parked his car. They got in and he took her to a neighbourhood breakfast club.
Seeing the place, Harper’s fears disappeared because she knew that someone of his status would not bring a woman he liked to a place like this. The place was a bit shabby and it did not look like somewhere a date should happen, or feelings should be confessed to a woman. She smiled excitedly at him.
“The food here must be good,” she said to him.
“Yeah,” he replied getting off his side of the car. Harper waited for a second to see if he was going to make a move to come open her side of the door and he did not even budge. He had not opened it when they came in and now he did not go the same again. She was happy to see the signs now so she did not get her hopes up and think that he was there to tell her how he fell at first sight.
She opened the door and waved the bag in her hand to him. “Can I leave this here? I will pick it up as soon as I am about to leave”
“Of course,” he said and she turned dropped the bag to the floor of the car and shut the door flowing him.
Green looked at the building and it made a million memories run through her mind. He remembered having to skim over things and have food here because things were cheap. Things changed so drastically for him when he met Carter. It was truly a grass-to-grace story for him.
They were sitting at the table after getting their meal, Harper was waiting for him to tell her why he brought her there. “Aret you going to eat?”
“These meals are breakfast meals” she said pointing to the spread on the table that ranged from toast to bacon and eggs and a chunk of butter.
“Why don’t you believe one can eat breakfast for lunch?” he asked picking up a slice of toast and splattering butter on it.
“I just think that it is too much…”
“Let me guess? Calories?’ he asked before taking a bite from his toast. She looked at him feeling a bit embarrassed even though she could not pinpoint what was making her feel that way.
“You want to ask me something but you paid for my supplies and then you are buying me lunch, I feel like a pig being fattened to be killed,” Harper said scooping up some of the eggs with her fork and munching on them.
“And yet you are eating it?” he asked a smile dancing on his lips.
“I trust that you would do nothing to me, so,” she said with a shoulder shrug before pointing to the restaurant. “As you can see this place is crowded so you can not do anything”
“You have great trust in me and you just met me,” He said.
“Judging by what you said, you need my help. I doubt you would kill the person who you would want to help you” she said and he nodded. She made a good case alright. “So what is this about?”
“Well, I could not help but notice that you like Cade”
“What?” she asked choking on the eggs. She reached out for the cup of water in front of her before downing it to try and stop the choking.
“Are you fine?” he asked refilling her cup and dropping it in front of her.
“I am fine” she said covering her mouth in embarrassment, still coughing a bit.
“Are you sure? Drink some more water” he said giving her the cup.
“I am fine” she said taking the cup from him and dropping it on the table. “So how did you conclude that I like Cade?” she asked.
“I noticed yesterday. I tend to notice things faster and easier than others” he said and she nodded.
“And you were able to tell from the party that I like him?” She asked playing with the fork in hand.
It was pretty obvious. Or am I wrong?” he asked. Maybe he had misread her actions. But he was pretty sure about it because she kept latching onto him, looking at him and her face when Ophelia and Cade stayed together was something. He was unconsciously looking at her at intervals just to be sure of what he had seen the first time.
“It is impressive” she murmured looking down at her plate. “But if you noticed why are you here telling me?” she asked. He may have noticed that she was in love with Cade who was married what was it to him? “Are you here to warn me not to come in between them? Because if he wavers because of me and comes to me I have to say maybe their relationship was not strong enough in the first place”
“If he wavers and goes to you do you think Ophelia would come to me?”
“What?”
