“Terminated”?”
Nelson’s profit-driven demeanor that day made it impossible for work to be affected by such matters.
The woman in his arms stiffened. Nelson tightened his grip. “Going home? Grandpa left today.”
Callie felt a mix of emotions as she let him lead her to the car. She cautiously glanced up and saw the man’s broad, upright back, exuding a powerful aura. Could such a businessman have canceled his collaboration with a celebrity for her?
Despite her lingering dissatisfaction over the past few days, she found it incredible that he had actually come up with a solution.
And a bit frightening.
In the courtyard of the Paucaster Villa Complex, someone had placed a large mirror. As Callie passed by, she couldn’t help but glance at it. She was startled to see her own flushed face, ambiguous eyes, and a smudge in her lipstick-anyone could tell what had happened.
It was all Nelson’s fault! How could he be like this?
Bianca had already packed up, and the car was ready at the door. Grandpa saw them holding hands as they returned and smiled happily, letting out a heavy sigh of relief. “That’s more like it!”
Callie smiled. “Grandpa, are you in such a hurry to go back? Stay a while longer so we can take care of you.”
Nelson added, “What’s so important at the old house that you need to rush back?”
Grandpa’s gentle smile froze at the latter part of Nelson’s sentence. “You rascal, always trying to annoy me. Learn to speak from Callie!” Then he turned to Callie, “When you get old, you become dependent on things. I still find the bed at the old house more comfortable.”
With that said, Callie could only nod and then walked over to Bianca to express her gratitude for all these days.
Nelson told Grandpa, “I’ll have Jeffery take you back.”
Grandpa nodded and then whispered, “Hurry up and have a child with Callie. That way, I can be at ease. I don’t have much time left.”
Nelson frowned in dissatisfaction. “You’re in such good health; don’t say such ominous things.”
Grandpa smiled subtly. “I know my own body. And also, change that bad temper of yours. Callie is going to spend her life with you; be more accommodating and don’t be like your father.”
By the end of his words, Nelson’s face had darkened. He glanced at Callie’s petite figure, feeling irritated. A lifetime? It was hard to imagine.
“Got it.”
“And one more thing,” Grandpa couldn’t stand his impatience and added, “Have a proper wedding; don’t wrong her.”
Callie heard this sentence and looked over in confusion, seeing Nelson’s turned head but unable to discern his emotions. “Got it.”
Grandpa and Bianca left, and the entire Paucaster Villa Complex suddenly felt empty. Callie sat on the balcony, looking at the yellowing sycamore trees on the street, filled with desolation and melancholy.
She wore a calm expression, lost in thought, not even noticing Nelson approaching.
He stood behind her, his hand naturally resting on her shoulder. “What are you looking at?”
From this position, one could see the distant, flickering coastline. Callie turned her head, pressing her face against his cold hand. “Nelson, am I causing you trouble?”
Her words carried no emotion, as if burdened with a heavy weight.
“No.” His gaze fell on a strand of her cut hair. “Why are you unhappy?”
Callie took a deep breath but didn’t voice her true thoughts. Forcing a smile, she replied, “I miss Grandpa. He’s such a lovely elder. Nelson, you’re really fortunate.”
