Nelson gazed at her gentle eyes, a possessiveness growing within him. If he could, he would imprison this woman here forever.
For a moment, he suppressed these feelings. His phone rang, and after glancing at an important message, he said without looking up, “The celebration party is set for three days from now. Be prepared.”
Callie was surprised he hadn’t changed his mind. “Are you really going to make me public?”
Nelson put away his phone. “Everyone attending will be from our circle, tight-lipped.”
She squinted her eyes and teased, “That’s not in the contract. Attending the party with you costs extra.”
Nelson looked up at her. “Do you have to objectify yourself like that?”
Objectify? Callie was instantly furious. “Why don’t you ask your rumored girlfriend? Using your fame to stir up romance, that’s objectifying.”
Her sharp words criticized both of them.
Returning to the initial question, Nelson’s face turned cold. “Do you still think I did something wrong?”
Callie met his gaze, letting him see her thoughts clearly. “Isn’t it wrong?” Wasn’t it wrong to flirt with her while stirring up rumors with someone else?
If he was so profit-driven, what did his feelings mean? Or perhaps, they didn’t even count as feelings.
Nelson gave her a deep look. His phone rang again, the caller ID showing Cora. He lowered his eyes and answered, stepping outside.
Soon, the sound of a car engine could be heard as he left.
Only the wind from the balcony remained, chilling Callie to the bone.
Nelson seemed to have urgent business and flew to Ylosea. When he messaged her, she glanced at it and deleted it.
What did it matter to her?
While he was away, Callie continued with her work. Two days later, she saw the news that Director Zhang had been dismissed.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She could guess it was Nelson’s doing.
That evening brought more good news. Everyone in Oconnor Group knew that Mr. Oconnor had successfully acquired Vankey.
Tomorrow was the celebration party. His timing was impeccable, truly masterful planning.
Nine thousand miles high, on a private jet returning from Ylosea.
Nelson was in a meeting with several executives when the plane hit turbulence. Water spilled from a cup, causing everyone’s hearts to skip a beat.
Fortunately, it was temporary, and everything soon stabilized.
The meeting adjourned. Vankey had encountered issues, and the project staff had worked tirelessly for two days and nights to improve the situation.
After receiving a call, Nelson flew to Ylosea, also staying awake for two days and nights.
Cora noticed Nelson’s pale face and handed him hot water again. “Mr. Oconnor, please rest for a while.”
The man’s stern profile was ghostly pale as he took the water to soothe his throat. Finally, he asked, “How is Callie?”
“No major issues,” Cora replied with pursed lips.
Nelson seemed relieved.
Callie had just left the hospital when a familiar number called her.
It was afternoon. The leaden sky finally showed a hint of warm light, breaking days of gloom. The sun emerged, brightening the day.
Bathed in golden light, she answered the call after forty-four seconds of ringing.
The voice on the other end was hoarse and tired but patient. “Where are you?”
“… Working overtime.”
Nelson chuckled softly, with a hint of helplessness. “It’s Saturday. Oconnor Group has weekends off.”
Callie remained silent.
He continued slowly, word by word, “I just got off the plane. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”
