What did he mean?
He was going to attend? And take her along?
Did he want to expose her?
Callie’s eyes filled with disbelief as she pulled away from his hand, which hadn’t used much force. “I’m not going.”
“Just try.”
He straightened up, threw out those words, and left the room decisively, closing the door softly behind him.
The softer the door closed, the angrier he was. Callie was left alone in the room with the scattered lights.
With her mind occupied, Callie tossed and turned for a long time without falling asleep. It wasn’t until dawn that she finally drifted off, her thoughts still racing.
The next day, she was woken up.
Checking the time, it was indeed quite late. She felt a bit embarrassed since Grandfather was there.
Grandfather didn’t blame Callie. He gently touched the faint dark circles around her eyes. “Oh dear, you didn’t sleep well last night.”
With Grandfather around, Callie couldn’t leave by herself. She had to get into Nelson’s car and leave Paucaster Villa Complex for Oconnor Group.
She really hadn’t slept well and to avoid awkwardness, she closed her eyes and rested in the seat. The car’s temperature was just right, and she gradually fell asleep.
She didn’t dream and didn’t know how she managed to sleep so defenselessly for so long. When she woke up, it was completely dark around her. The car seat was reclined, and she was covered with a blanket, feeling warm.
Rubbing her eyes, she realized she was still in Nelson’s car, but the man was gone. The car keys were left in the ignition, probably for her convenience.
Callie slapped her forehead in frustration, feeling a bit relieved that he hadn’t locked her in.
Checking the time, it was already noon!
Callie took out the keys, got out of the car, and locked it. She couldn’t help but feel annoyed-why hadn’t he woken her up?
Meanwhile, on the top floor of the building, a meeting about internet development was taking place in a bright and clean office.
Nelson sat at his desk, with several senior executives lined up discussing warmly. The secretarial staff occasionally came in to pour hot tea.
The man seemed distracted, frequently glancing at another computer showing surveillance footage from his car. The woman inside occasionally moved in her sleep, looking peaceful.
He felt a vague restlessness. Before leaving, he had adjusted the car’s temperature and opened a small window for ventilation. Would she be alright sleeping like that?
Checking the time, it was lunchtime, and she still hadn’t woken up?
As his restlessness grew, the executives noticed something was wrong and softly called out, “Mr. Oconnor? Are you listening?”
Nelson slowly raised his eyes and lightly coughed into his fist. Although he had been distracted earlier, he could still accurately repeat everything they had reported.
“…”
Realizing they had overstepped, they stopped speaking. Fortunately, Nelson was in a good mood today. After a few summary remarks, he said, “That’s all for today.”
The executives filed out one by one. Cora, who had been taking minutes, put down her notebook at the right moment. “Mr. Oconnor, are you going to lunch?”
Nelson closed his gilded pen and placed it on the desk. Just as he was about to get up, he saw the woman on the screen waking up and paused.
First looking confused and bewildered, she then methodically folded the blanket and put it aside before taking out his car keys and getting out of the car.
She looked dazed, like a squirrel.
Cora saw Nelson’s mouth curl into a smile that he might not have even noticed himself-a genuine smile that his cold demeanor couldn’t hide.
After pausing for a second or two, his voice returned to its indifferent tone. “Yes, let’s go to lunch.”
Callie headed directly to Oconnor Group’s cafeteria. Litzy waved at her from a corner and called out softly, “Miss Marsh!”
