Callie was suddenly overwhelmed with resentment, feeling a strong urge to escape.
Why did he have to show up now?
Callie was almost forced back to the master bedroom.
She touched her hair and suddenly understood why Grandfather was staying at Paucaster Villa Complex tonight.
There was no escape.
Callie said, “I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
She found a blanket in the walk-in closet, thinking that sleeping in a temperature-controlled room wouldn’t make her cold.
Unexpectedly, she was pulled from behind. The next second, her head spun, and she was slammed against the wall.
Her hands were pinned down, unable to move. She was baffled, “What are you doing!”
Their breaths mingled. The man’s face was clear and close. He moved slightly away and forcefully questioned, “Why were you crying at the computer?”
Callie’s heart skipped a beat. Her emotions were tangled and confused. How did he see…
At that moment, Nelson noticed how quickly Callie’s expression changed.
She suddenly sneered, then blinked and deliberately teased, “Nelson, don’t tell me you think I’m really jealous?”
Nelson looked at her deeply without responding.
Seeing no reaction, Callie dropped her teasing tone and said calmly, “You’re overthinking. I wasn’t crying.”
He scanned her face but found no trace of unusual emotion.
Really… he thought he had overthought it.
Then again, jealousy… how could someone so stubborn be jealous?
Nelson seemed to recall something and abruptly released her wrist, freeing her.
He then opened the walk-in closet.
It was filled with women’s clothes, all seasonal selections he had previously arranged. Nelson’s cold voice sounded, “Choose an appropriate dress for the banquet.”
Callie was stunned.
He continued, “The banquet celebrating the successful acquisition of Vankey. Come with me. It’s a good chance to see Jaquan’s reaction.”
Nelson’s sharp gaze never left her face, trying to detect any sign of distress or sadness but only saw surprise followed by an ‘Oh, I see’ expression.
Callie indeed didn’t know about the successful acquisition of Vankey.
Since Jaquan went abroad, they hadn’t been in contact. Why would Nelson think they were connected?
Callie tended to lose focus when thinking, and doing so under Nelson’s watchful eyes was clearly not wise.
Almost instantly, Callie felt herself being lifted effortlessly by the man. Her eyes refocused, and she instinctively clung to his neck before quickly letting go, “You!”
The tall man in loungewear smiled arrogantly and coolly as he whispered in her ear, “Jaquan? The gentle and romantic man who treated you so well? Let’s see how he feels about his failure together.”
Callie glared at this malicious man, wanting to bite him but not daring to struggle too much. Causing a scene wouldn’t end well with Grandfather around.
Knowing he had misunderstood something, she gritted her teeth and retorted sarcastically, “It would be absolutely devastating!”
Nelson stopped by the bed and suddenly let go. Callie fell onto the soft bed, her black hair spread out. From above, she looked both alluring and innocent.
She widened her glassy eyes, “What are you doing!”
Like a long-dormant leopard pouncing on its prey, he grabbed her chin with a dangerous tone, “Well then, you will have to attend in full dress. I hope your performance then is as good as tonight’s.”
