Hearing the noise, she quickly came forward. “What time is it? It’s three in the morning and you’re not home yet. Where have you been?”
Callie felt awkward and exchanged a glance with Nelson. “I… I was helping Nelson with something.”
Bianca looked suspicious. “You scared me. I thought something happened.”
“Bianca, you’re not in good health. You don’t need to wait for us to come home. Go to bed early,” Nelson said calmly, without offering much explanation.
Seeing them, Bianca felt relieved. But as they were about to go upstairs, she grabbed Callie’s hand and whispered, “Did you have a fight with Nelson?”
Callie felt guilty. “… No.”
“Don’t lie to me. Nelson came back earlier tonight, waited for you, and then drove out again. Tell me the truth, did you have a fight?”
Callie was surprised. She didn’t expect Nelson to actually come out looking for her. “Well… sort of.”
Bianca noticed the red mark on her neck and smiled. “A little quarrel is good for the relationship. It shows that Nelson likes you. Go to sleep.”
Callie’s face turned red. Like her? Bianca was quite bold to think that.
Sharing a room, the atmosphere was different from Jaquan’s lounge. Callie felt a bit restrained, and Nelson didn’t seem to have any intention of continuing. He just lay beside her and said, “Sleep.”
Callie couldn’t help but think that if things had continued earlier, she might have been willing to give herself to him. She wasn’t ignorant about such matters and wasn’t that conservative either. Besides, Nelson was handsome and well-built; she wouldn’t be losing out.
“Okay.” Callie responded and heard the man’s shallow breathing next to her.
In the darkness, after a moment, the man’s large hand reached under her neck, loosely holding her. “Sleep.”
Callie smiled silently. Nelson’s arm was soft, more comfortable than a pillow. She turned on her side, “Alright, good night, Nelson.”
“Good night.”
The next morning, Callie thought Nelson had already left. To her surprise, when she opened her eyes, she saw his sleeping face right next to her. He sensed her movement and slowly opened his eyes, his voice hoarse from sleep. “Awake?”
They were still in the same position as last night. Callie bravely touched his furrowed brow. “Is your arm sore?”
Nelson seemed to just remember his arm and tried to move it, raising an eyebrow with a half-smile. “It’s numb.”
She couldn’t help but laugh and quickly sat up. “It’s still early. Are you having breakfast at home today?”
Nelson moved his arm while thinking about his schedule for the day. “Yes.”
“What would you like to eat? I’ll ask Bianca to prepare it.”
“Whatever you’re having.” Nelson got up and went into the bathroom to freshen up, so Callie happily went downstairs, a smile never leaving her face.
His way of being close was strange, but she could understand it.
After breakfast, Nelson put on his coat and prepared to go to Oconnor Group. Callie stood on tiptoe to help him with his tie and asked eagerly, “Can I go with you? It’s too boring at home.”
Nelson squinted and looked at her arm. “When can you remove the cast?”
She thought for a moment. “In a week.”
“I’ll go with you then and also visit your father.”
If that could happen, it would be great. Callie jumped up, thinking quickly. “You didn’t refuse me.”
Nelson snorted softly and walked straight out of the villa. It was late autumn; the sycamore leaves outside had turned yellow and were connected in patches. The scenery was beautiful, and the air was fresh.
