Chapter 167: Let Him Be the Assistant

Callie was puzzled by Nelson’s actions earlier. She couldn’t understand why, if Jaquan hadn’t intervened, she might have been trampled by the horse.
The man in front of her, always cold and efficient, simply brushed the dust off his clothes and smirked, “Did you hear that? Mr. Scott treats women exceptionally well. You won’t lose out by being with him. Once, he even threw a grand proposal party at Scott Group, making everyone envious.”
Upon hearing the latter part, Jaquan’s expression changed slightly, and his smile wasn’t as carefree as before. “Nelson is just jealous of me. I have many women around me, while he’s been alone all these years. Who knows who will get married first in the end.”
Callie’s heart skipped a beat, feeling there was more to his words.
Nelson took off his uniform and put on his own coat without responding.
Jaquan continued, “Nelson, I really like your employee. Why not let her be my assistant? I’ve had many assistants, but none as thoughtful and pleasant as her.”
“You already have Cora as your special assistant. What difference does one small employee make?”
“Of course, it doesn’t.” Nelson stepped aside and glanced at Callie, “If you’re sincere about it, why not ask her yourself?”
Feeling stifled and facing the threat in his eyes, Callie instinctively said, “It would be an honor to work for Mr. Scott.”
Nelson curled his lips and pressed his tongue against his palate without expressing an opinion. “In that case, you can go back with Mr. Scott today.”
After speaking, he strode towards the exit. Callie’s heart tightened as she watched his back.
Jaquan stepped forward to block her view and smiled, “Looks like you’ll be coming home with me today.”
In the same Maserati, she sat in the passenger seat, distractedly fiddling with her phone. Not only did she fail to address her concerns, but she also ended up in a mess.
“What are you thinking about?” It was already evening, and Jaquan’s profile was bathed in the sunset. “I bet you’re wondering why Nelson bumped into you.”
Callie didn’t admit it even though he hit the mark. “I was just thinking if you would take me home.”
He was surprised by her answer. “Don’t you know that every woman in Ylosea wants to get into my bed?”
“I know.” Callie took a deep breath. “But I also know you’re a gentleman and wouldn’t take advantage of someone like me.”
“Gentleman? Who told you that?”
“I heard it. Everyone says you once pursued a woman with all your might. I think a man so passionate wouldn’t be casual with others.” Callie carefully chose her words.
Jaquan chuckled and drove to the Scott Group building. “Did Nelson tell you that?”
She slowly shook her head.
“No need to hide it, just like I never hide anything from you.” He got out of the car and opened her door. “And you’re wrong; I’m no gentleman.”
Callie looked up at the Scott Group logo. “Where are you taking me?”
It seemed every CEO’s office had a lounge. Jaquan led her inside, and unlike Oconnor Group, this place was filled with various kinds of alcohol.
Jaquan poured a glass of red wine and swirled it around. “I’m serious, Callie. Do you want to join Scott Group? Even if it’s not to be my spy.”
