Nelson pressed his temples. “What do you want?”
Yamilet looked eager. “I already know you married Callie. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”
He raised an eyebrow but remained silent, waiting for her to continue.
The man’s aura was overwhelming. Yamilet carefully continued, “According to tradition, such a significant event like marriage requires meeting the parents and giving a bride price before the ceremony. I know Mr. Oconnor has a special status, but you can’t ignore these customs!”
Seeing that he still didn’t speak, Yamilet gathered her courage. “I’m Callie’s mother. I think holding a wedding ceremony is a must. What do you think, Mr. Oconnor?”
Nelson lowered his gaze, understanding most of it. He said lightly, “Reuben, who is lying in the hospital, barely counts as Callie’s father. I really don’t know who you are.”
Yamilet was taken aback. “How can you say that! I’ve raised Callie for over ten years. How can you talk to me like this? She must have whispered something in your ear. Don’t believe her lies; she’s always been ungrateful!”
“Is that so?” Nelson’s voice rose. “If you were truly Callie’s family, you would know that I not only gave $200, 000 for Reuben’s medical expenses but also provided him with the best medical team.”
He showed no expression, but his presence was overwhelming, making it hard for Yamilet to breathe.
“Of course I know that, but that’s a different matter. It’s what you should do, understand? You, the president of Oconnor Group, think you can marry our daughter for a mere $200, 000? That’s not appropriate!”
“If you know that, then you should be grateful for the $200, 000 that saved your husband’s life. You have no gratitude and are here pestering me. Your intentions are despicable.”
Nelson rubbed the car keys in his hand and leisurely retorted.
Yamilet was at a loss for words. She took a deep breath and played her trump card. “How about this? Give me another $500, 000, and Callie will be yours forever. If Mr. Oconnor is unwilling to make this deal, I’ll announce your marriage in the newspaper tomorrow!”
She was smart enough to know that there was a reason this marriage hadn’t been made public.
Nelson narrowed his eyes and then smirked. “You are quite greedy. Do you think your daughter is worth $500, 000?”
This mockery made Yamilet’s eyes widen.
“Feel free to see what happens if you go to the press. I’ll give you a ready-made example: your son Joaquin is still stuck in a shady place working hard. If he meets an unreasonable boss, he could lose his life. Do you want to try that?”
Nelson casually opened the car door and leaned on it without getting in. “At your age, you probably can’t handle it as well as Joaquin.”
Yamilet was furious. “Callie said the same thing today. So it was you who harmed Joaquin!”
“Indeed, it was me.” He confidently raised an eyebrow and was about to leave when he paused and looked up from the shadows. “You’ve seen Callie?”
Yamilet was so intimidated by his presence that she took a step back and didn’t dare to speak.
“Where did you see her?”
“At a beauty salon. She seemed to be getting some treatment, and I ran into her by chance.” Yamilet didn’t want to say but had no choice, nervously clutching her clothes.
Seeing the young man remain silent, Yamilet quickly added another sentence.
