They got chips without paying any money. The private room was filled with cheers.
Before leaving, Nelson took a sip of coffee and said to Nash, “You’d better listen to your father and settle abroad as soon as possible.”
Nash’s expression changed as he realized the implication of Nelson’s words. He wanted to ask more, but Nelson had already left the room, unwilling to say more.
Callie finished washing her hands, which still stung. She muttered to herself, feeling unlucky; she always seemed to get hurt when she was with Nelson.
As she walked out of the restroom, she saw him standing in the hallway, leaning against the railing while on the phone. His broad shoulders and narrow waist were evident. “It’s confirmed, Deshawn’s superior is named Blair.”
Nelson responded with a hum to whatever was said on the other end of the line. He glanced at Callie, noticing that she had kept her mask on the entire time. He waved her over.
Callie approached and overheard a faint voice from the phone, “By November at the latest, you’ll see the news you want.”
“October. I can’t wait that long,” Nelson said, picking up her hand. The redness from the burn was still there, quite noticeable.
The person on the other end seemed hesitant but finally said, “I’ll do my best.”
Nelson hung up and put away his phone just as a waiter approached. “Mr. Oconnor, here is what you requested.”
It was a tube of ointment for burns. Nelson took it, unscrewed the cap, and asked, “Does it hurt?”
Callie suddenly felt that her hand wasn’t important. She curiously probed, “Were you testing Mr. Blair just now? And you got some useful information.”
“How did you figure that out?”
“You seemed to be concerned about him but were actually extracting information. He was foolish enough to tell you everything, probably thinking of you as a close brother.” The cool ointment felt soothing as Nelson applied it evenly. “But he would never guess that his ‘brother’ wants to harm him.”
Nelson raised an eyebrow and glanced at her, “You’re making me sound too evil.”
“Aren’t you?” Callie was incredulous. This man was too cunning; she couldn’t see him as a good person at all.
She used to know him only as the president of Oconnor Group. She didn’t know he was friends with the head of Club Paradise or that he was the owner behind Kenker Hotel. Making someone disappear was too easy for him.
Thinking about this made Callie fearful.
After applying the ointment, Nelson put the unused portion into her bag and headed towards the elevator.
“This world isn’t as simple as you think. If I don’t act, others will act against me.”
Callie quickly followed him without dwelling on the topic, “Is this place similar to Bridger’s establishment?”
“Very different. His operates in the underworld; mine is above board.”
Under current policies, opening a legal casino in Ylosea wasn’t easy. Nelson not only managed it but also turned it into a travel hotspot. Many foreign visitors to Ylosea made it a point to play here.
But because it operated openly, there were more opportunities for gray-market transactions behind the scenes.
Perhaps because Nelson was with her, Callie didn’t feel scared here; instead, she found it interesting, completely different from Club Paradise.
As soon as they left Kenker Hotel, Callie took off her mask to finally breathe freely. But before she could say anything, Nelson’s deep voice commanded, “Put it back on.”
She looked up in surprise just as a black Cayenne glided to a stop in front of them and its window rolled down.
