Callie gritted her teeth. Why did she hear sarcasm in that statement?
“I can’t thank you enough, Mr. Oconnor .”
Nelson pinched the cigarette box and walked up the stairs.
As he disappeared from sight, Callie asked Nancy to put the other box of ice cream back. She couldn’t finish so much ice cream and was saving it for the next time when Nelson lost to her.
But it was really sweet and Callie immediately forgot about her troubles.
Callie did not have to go to work now and slept until she woke up naturally. Since she had an injury, the maids did not dare to wake her.
Last night she had too much ice cream and kept having to go to the toilet. So she did not sleep well at all. When she woke up from her sleep, she was to find that it was already evening. She stretched herself and went downstairs. She saw Nelson sitting on the sofa, wearing black-rimmed glasses, and working on his laptop.
Callie was stunned, glancing at the time and asking the maid in a low voice, “Is Mr. Oconnor off-work did he not go to work at all?”
Usually, Nelson wouldn’t come back this early.
“He didn’t leave the house today.”
Callie felt awkward. She thought about it and decided to go back to her room. Just as she took a step, she was called by the man behind her, “Callie.”
She couldn’t walk away now and turned back, “Yes?”
Nelson was expressionless, “Get dressed up and go out with me later.”
Callie wasn’t sure about going out with him, “I have scars on my face.” She would only embarrass him.
“It’s not a big deal.” Nelson turned off his laptop and set it aside.
“How do you want me to get dressed up?”
“Just wear clothes.”
Completely undemanding, Callie got it. It seemed the event wasn’t important.
She went back to her room and changed into a simple dress. After living here for so long, she didn’t realize that the closet was full of clothes and the room was no longer a strange place.
Callie walked out and Nelson had already changed into a suit. He picked a tie, the maid understood and was about to help him tie it when Callie took a step forward, “I’ll do it.”
Nelson glanced sideways at hers, a little surprised.
Callie took the tie from the maid and stood on her tiptoes to wrap it around his neck, she smiled, “As a wife, what’s wrong with tying her husband’s tie?”
Nelson could smell the scent of her and let her do it for him without speaking.
Callie would occasionally touch his throat and saw his Adam’s apple slide up and down. It was sexy as hell. She watched and what little trepidation she had was gone, replaced by admiration.
“Nelson, you’re so good-looking.”
Nelson lowered his eyes and gazed at the tie, “You used perfume?”
“Yes, does it smell good?” Callie asked.
She smiled on purpose, and in the light, she didn’t look so much like Maeve.
“It smells good. Don’t use it again,” Nelson took a step back, distancing himself from her and preparing to head out the door.
Callie was pissed and quickly followed, “I’m not done yet. Wait!”
Unexpectedly Nelson moved faster slightly to the side, grabbed her wrist, and got close to her, staring down at her.
“Callie, what the hell do you want?”
Callie was overwhelmed by his aura and managed to force out a smile, “Testing if I can seduce you or not.”
