Nelson looked at her for quite a while, with a smile lifted in the corner of his month. Such a scene did not repel him.
Perhaps it was because of the poor sleep yesterday, when Callie woke up, it was 3 PM. She rubbed her bleary eyes and then found that Nelson was still working in the same place.
“How long did I sleep?” asked Callie.
Nelson looked at his watch on his wrist and said, “Three hours.”
Callie scratched her head embarrassedly, thinking that it is a bit long. She asked, “Is there still a lot of work left? When will we get back?”
“Soon.”
‘He didn’t waste words at all. What a boring guy.’ Callie thought.
Feeling bored, Callie lay on the bed and conceived the idea of the cover design of DV company. After a while, she began to hobble around in the room when Nelson was still busy working.
She hurried to leave last time and didn’t take a good look at it.
This time, Callie found there was a study next door which was connected to the master bedroom where there was a whole wall of books and some interesting stuff.
“Nelson, can I go in and have a look?” asked Callie who was holding onto the wall.
Nelson thought nothing of it and said, “Sure.”
Nelson had his childhood here. A lot of things were piled up in the study.
Sitting on the floor, Callie saw a very big box. She opened it and found some toys for children.
She picked up a slingshot and talked to herself, “He was a normal child. What makes him a totally different guy now?”
She continued to dig deep and even found some colorful elastic bands. Callie couldn’t help smiling since she couldn’t imagine that Nelson would make friend with a girl.
There were not only some rubber bands but also half of a pencil, a postcard with a blessing, and an old photo.
The photo got buried at the bottom of the box with lots of ash on it. Callie wiped it off and noticed that Old Oconnor was in the photo.
At that time, he was not aging with two kids next to him. The little boy was good looking, held the hand of the girl and smiled widely.
Callie looked along their arms and suddenly frowned since she found that the little girl looked somewhat like her!
It didn’t mean the current her but her as a child.
They were so much alike that she even had a tremor in her hands.
But she knew clearly that she was not the girl since she had not been here and was not acquainted with Nelson at that time.
Was it a coincidence?
Callie didn’t have time to think it over, there came the sound of footsteps outside the study. Nelson showed up and asked, “I’m done. What are you doing?”
However, his voice stopped abruptly when he saw that Callie was sitting on the floor with a photo in her hand.
All of a sudden, fury replaced gentleness in his eyes. He rushed forward and took away the photo, howling, “Who gave you the right to take my things out!
“I…” Callie stood up in a hurry, leading to a pain in the ankle. But this time, Nelson didn’t give her a hand.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know. I didn’t mean to do it.”
Nelson scrutinized the photo and made sure it is intact, then he put it in the box, recovered it, and talked to Callie brusquely with a harsh countenance, “Did no one ever tell you not to touch the things that do not belong to you? Don’t you know to respect my privacy?”
Callie felt a heartache. She couldn’t explain but kept apologizing, “I promise, I didn’t mean to…”
“Shut up! You can’t pose your nose into my personal affairs. We are not that intimate. Callie, mind you, between us it is a contract. Walk a fine line,” Nelson trotted away from the study with the box in his arms after saying so.
It seemed that the box was really important to him, even more important than his life.
In silence, Callie stood still for a long while. When she came to herself, she raised her hand to touch her face. It is cold.
There were tears on her face.
