“Alright, don’t mention Callie in front of me again…”
The colleagues exchanged glances and fell silent, while Lorelai was thinking about the ways to crush Callie, who was a nuisance to her.
With Mr. Montes’ resignation, the design department was immediately filled with a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone felt less pressured. Just then, the HR manager walked in.
“Everyone, quiet down. I have an announcement regarding a new personnel appointment.”
All eyes turned towards the manager.
Lorelai walked over, a smile on her face.
“The company has decided to temporarily promote Lorelai to the position of design department director. She will lead the team in completing the upcoming projects.”
Lorelai proudly lifted her chin. “Please support me. I am determined to lead our design department to greater success.”
Litzy felt indignant. “Why is she getting promoted? She stole Callie’s design and still has the nerve to act high and mighty. She might just get her comeuppance.”
“Litzy, keep it down. She’s new to the position, and you don’t want to end up on her bad side,” another colleague advised. Litzy glanced over at Callie, who was focused intently on her computer.
“Callie, are you alright?”
Ever since Callie’s computer had been sabotaged, it had been running poorly, clearly infected with a virus that ordinary antivirus software couldn’t fix.
“It’s broken.”
“Still not fixed?”
Callie shook her head. The person who stole her design hadn’t left her any options. Now, with her computer out of order, her work was suffering.
“No problem. I’ll find someone to fix it after work. It should be fine.”
As Callie spoke, she closed her laptop. At that moment, Lorelai dropped a stack of files onto Callie’s desk. “Callie, organize all these documents by the end of the day and put them on my desk before you leave.”
Callie opened her mouth to respond, but Lorelai turned and walked away without giving her a chance to speak.
Callie sighed. Power always wins. She began sorting the documents as Lorelai had instructed.
Lorelai’s sidekick, impressed by Lorelai’s ability to screw Callie, said, “Lorelai, you’re the only one who could pull this off.”
Lorelai beamed with satisfaction. “Watch your attitude towards your director next time.”
“Yes, Miss Ryan.”
Lorelai was very pleased. She still couldn’t understand why the company had chosen her as the director. With Mr. Montes gone, there were plenty of better candidates. However, she was the one who got the job.
Good fortune, it seemed, was unstoppable when it came her way.
“After work, let’s gather some friends for dinner tonight.”
“Yes, Miss Ryan.”
Callie spent the entire morning organizing the documents. By lunchtime, she had finished about a third of the stack.
Stretching, she looked at the time. It was time for a break.
“Litzy, let’s grab lunch.”
Litzy quickly shut down her computer and joined Callie in the company cafeteria.
However, the atmosphere in the cafeteria felt a bit off today. Callie didn’t think much of it. After getting her food from the window, she looked for a place to sit and noticed Nelson already at a table, eating his lunch.
