Their dinner had taken more than two hours. By the time they emerged from the hotel, it was already past ten in the evening.
The autumn night was cold like water.
A gust of wind blew. Rosiley could not help but shiver. It felt so cold.
Suddenly, a warm coat covered her shoulders. Sachin’s deep and concerned voice rang out above her. “Put this on. Don’t catch a cold.”
Rosiley raised her head and smiled at him, then obediently put on his coat.
“Yes, it is warmer now.”
“CEO Lu, I didn’t know you are so caring.”
Ying Xiaoxiao’s teasing voice rang out from beside her. Rosiley turned to glance at her, a tinge of craftiness flashing across her eyes. “Xiaoxiao, do you feel cold too? I’ll get Corey to take off his coat and let you wear it.”
The smile on Ying Xiaoxiao’s lips instantly froze. Dammit, she was just teasing CEO Lu a bit, yet Rosiley was so protective over him and had used Corey to return her taunt. What a girl!
Seeing this, Yayoi covered her mouth and tittered. Her clear eyes sparkled with scintillating light, looking lovely.
Morphy was lost in a trance and wanted to touch her face.
“Sachin and I will go straight home. Sorry, we can’t see you guys off.”
Rosiley’s voice rang out again, pulling him back to reality.
When he came back to himself, he found himself to have raised his hand. He smiled a bitter smile and lowered it in embarrassment.
Yayoi and Xiaoxiao had come to the hotel in Sachin’s car, while Morphy and Corey had driven their own.
Xiaoxiao was still mad at Corey, and Yayoi even more so at Morphy.
So…
Rosiley thought quietly to herself for a moment and made a suitable arrangement. “How about this: Corey will take Yayoi home and Morphy will take Xiaoxiao. It will be a pleasant arrangement.”
Corey glanced at the others and shrugged. “It’s all okay to me!”
He knew what his sister-in-law was intending with such an arrangement, but it was clearly not a problem even for him to send Ying Xiaoxiao home.
He was okay with this arrangement, but someone else was not!
“I’ll send Yayoi home!” Morphy walked straight over and grabbed Yayoi’s hand. Without waiting for their reactions, he strode towards his car.
“Morphy, what do you think you’re doing?” Yayoi was pulled to one side and tried vigorously to shake his hand off, but he was so strong that she could not do it.
When they saw that, Rosiley and Ying Xiaoxiao went after them.
Ying Xiaoxiao immediately grabbed Morphy’s arm and asked sternly, “Morphy, what do you think you’re doing?”
“Taking her home,” Morphy answered blandly.
“Morphy, release her!” Rosiley’s eyes stared at him harshly.
“sister-in-law, I… ”
Morphy wanted to say something, but Rosiley cut him off directly. “Morphy, stay away from Yayoi.”
Walking over, Corey could sense the subtle tension between them. Not understanding the situation, he asked curiously, “What’s wrong with you people? Why are you all looking so serious?”
“Corey!” Sachin called out to him in a low voice, giving him a warning look to shut him up.
Corey shut his mouth sheepishly, his puzzled gaze shifting back and forth between them.
Morphy looked at his sister-in-law who was already showing her displeasure. His thin lips pursed tightly into a pucker. The hand he was using to grip Yayoi gradually loosened.
When she found his grip loosening, Yayoi took the opportunity to withdraw her hand.
His hand felt empty and his heart suddenly sank, crestfallen.
His fingertips slowly curled and clenched into a fist. He looked up at Yayoi, who had been pulled behind Ying Xiaoxiao, and his profound gaze mingled with deep loneliness.
Yayoi could not help but feel a dryness in her throat. She lowered her eyes, avoiding his sight. Her fingertips were trembling slightly on either side of her.
“You go back first,” Sachin said to him quietly.
Morphy slowly turned around and strolled to his car. He walked very slowly under the gloomy night sky, his solitary figure showing a hint of loneliness.
