Quentin suddenly stepped in front of Cerys, blocking her path, and she was taken aback.
At that moment, being held by Quentin, Cerys’s face flushed with embarrassment. She didn’t dare to look directly into Quentin’s eyes. Although she was still angry with him, her heart was filled with sweetness.
“Quentin, let go of me!” Cerys tried to push Quentin away, but her hands lacked the strength. Deep down, she wished he would hold her forever.
Harry and Eileen, sensing the situation, quietly walked away to give them space to talk things out.
Eileen watched Quentin holding Cerys and felt a pang of envy. How she wished it were her in Cerys’s place.
Seeing Cerys still so angry, Quentin sighed helplessly. “Promise me you won’t run away again, and I’ll let you go.”
Cerys felt a bit disappointed and regretted asking Quentin to release her earlier. Reluctantly, she nodded in agreement.
Only after Cerys promised not to run did Quentin dare to let her go.
“Cerys, why did you suddenly come here? We’ve been looking for you for so long,” Quentin said.
“Quentin, is it because I’m pretty that you don’t like me?”
“Do you hate me for acting this way? Will you ignore me from now on…”
As she spoke, tears streamed down Cerys’s face, making her look even more pitiful.
Quentin smiled slightly and wiped away her tears. “Silly girl. How could I hate you when you’ve been so good to me? I haven’t even had enough time to like you.”
“If you like me, then why won’t you accept my feelings? Why did you refuse the Jade Belt I gave you and say you couldn’t like me?” Cerys asked tearfully, feeling wronged.
Quentin sighed deeply. He had never told Cerys about his wife and children back in the southeast. He never expected that the man Cerys loved would turn out to be him.
“Cerys, I need to tell you something, but promise me you won’t get angry,” Quentin said softly.
“Quentin, just say it. I’m listening,” Cerys replied with a nod.
“I’m sorry, Cerys. The truth is, I have a wife and children in the southeast. I’ve always seen you as my sister. My affection for you is only that of a brother,” Quentin said with a heavy heart.
Cerys turned pale upon hearing this. Her face lost all color, and her heart felt like it was being torn apart. Tears flowed uncontrollably down her cheeks.
So, the man she loved the most already had someone else in his heart!
“Cerys, don’t be too sad. It’s my fault for not telling you from the beginning,” Quentin said guiltily.
“Quentin, I’m fine.”
“Your wife must be very beautiful for you to love her so much. She must be very important to you,” Cerys said, wiping away her tears and forcing a smile.
Quentin looked out at the distant lake, recalling the smiles of Charlotte Pittman and their two children. “Yes, they’ve endured a lot for me. Now that I’m finally back with them, I must protect them well.”
“Quentin, you’re so kind. Whether it’s to your family or friends… or even to me,” Cerys praised him. She envied his wife deeply for having such a gentle and strong husband by her side.
“Cerys, you’re also a kind and lovely girl. I believe you’ll find someone who will protect you and bring you happiness one day.”
“Let’s go back now,” Quentin said sincerely, taking Cerys’s hand and preparing to leave.
Cerys nodded and let Quentin lead her back.
Now that she knew Quentin had a family, she couldn’t cause any more trouble. She wouldn’t do anything to ruin his happiness. If she truly loved him, watching him be happy was enough.
Facing Quentin’s blessing, she sighed helplessly.
How could Quentin know that once she fell in love with him, she could never love another man? Even if it meant waiting for a lifetime, she was willing to be alone for him.
She wished that the moment Quentin held her hand could last forever. But fate was cruel and wouldn’t let her meet him sooner.
In the Black Miao Village camp, Wesley was in Beckett’s tent.
“Kill! Kill! Kill!” Beckett had woken up, his eyes bloodshot and face twisted with rage as he roared.
Now that his legs had been broken by Quentin, he would have to rely on crutches for the rest of his life. His heart was filled with hatred and anger towards Quentin.
He was unwilling to accept this humiliation. He was no longer the top warrior of Big Game or the strongest in Miao Territory. All he wanted now was to kill Quentin and avenge himself!
“Enough! Stop it!” Wesley scolded angrily, shaking his head in exasperation at Beckett’s pitiful state.
Beckett stopped his roaring at Wesley’s command and suddenly began to cry bitterly. “Father! You must avenge me!”
“Alright, I’ll find a way to deal with him,” Wesley replied.
“Chieftain, Elder Ahmed from White Miao Village requests an audience,” a Black Miao warrior reported as he entered.
“Ahmed? Let him in,” Wesley said coldly.
“Elder Ahmed greeted both men as he entered. “Good evening, Chieftain and Master Beckett.”
“Ahmed, what brings you here instead of staying at White Miao Base Camp?” Wesley asked coldly, harboring deep prejudice against the White Miao Village people.
Beckett glared at Ahmed with hostility.
“Chieftain, I’ve come tonight to share an earth-shattering secret,” Ahmed said with a smile.
“What secret?” Wesley asked suspiciously, wondering what Ahmed was up to.
Ahmed replied, “Chieftain, did you know that Webb is actually an outsider named Quentin?”
