CHAPTER 149

JEROME
Everything was going well with Estelle and Alpha Argon. I could see how she was handling the plan, until Brielle showed up.
I wasn’t expecting that woman to come down to the company, and why today of all days? She stopped coming over after what I did, and now she’s here?
I had to stay hidden behind the door, watching how she spoke with Estelle sweetly, before Estelle left through the lift, making an escape at once.
“Good, she did well,” I sighed.
Then, I adjusted my suit, took out my phone and stepped out of the office, acting like one who was on call.
When I came out to meet Alpha Argon and Brielle, I heard my Alpha speaking to Brielle, “I thought you said you were heading somewhere?”
“Yes, I was. But on my way back, I felt like stopping by to see how things were going,” She responded, handing my Alpha a flask. “I made this for you. I hope you’ll enjoy it.”
A smile appeared on Alpha Argon’s face. He happily took the flask from Brielle, holding it close to himself. “Thank you, Brielle. You didn’t have to go through the trouble.”
“I had no choice, Argon. It was important,” She said.
When she made that statement, I directed my eyes on Brielle and froze when I saw her staring at me in a strange way. Why is she looking at me?
Then, she smiled and asked, “Jerome, is everything okay?”
“Me? Yes, everything is fine. Why did you ask?” I lowered my phone down.
She just hummed and pointed at my forehead. “I can see sweats streaming down to your face, even when the AC is on, ” She pointed out.
She’s observant. I had to wipe it off with a laugh, assuring her that it was nothing. “I’m okay, seriously.”
“Hmm, I’ve heard. Well, I’ll be leaving now. I have something important to face,” She said, getting ready to leave.
“Let me see you off, ” Alpha Argon immediately volunteered, following Brielle into the lift. And as the elevator came closing up, my eyes came locking with Brielle’s once again, before it came shut.
“Why the constant gaze? Maybe she wanted to give me another job but forgot what to say. It’s good that she’s leaving,” I sighed, feeling relieved.
I returned to my office and called Estelle. She began bragging over the phone, how she made my Alpha stare at her beauty lustfully. “I told you he hasn’t forgotten me completely. I saw it in his eyes. Everything was going well before that woman showed up,” She talked, expressing her detest for Brielle and desire to meet Alpha Argon again.
“You have to get us alone, Jerome. Maybe this evening before he leaves? Try to keep him till the evening. I’ll head back home to get changed. I have another cloth in mind, ” Estelle cheered, ending the call before I could even talk.
She’s just jumping around without using her brain. I’m supposed to be the planner here, not her. “Restless fool. Anyways, I’ll do as she wants, ” I accepted.
A few minutes later, while I was working in my office, my door came open, with my Alpha stepping inside, looking lost. “Alpha, is there a problem?” I asked, putting a stop to my work.
He was silent at first, rubbing his chin while drawing nearer to my desk. When he got close and sat on the edge, he asked, ” Did you see Estelle?”
“Estelle? She was here? ” I gasped, pretending not to have seen her.
“She came out from the lift when we were both standing there. You mean to say you didn’t see her?”
“No, Alpha. An important call came in and I just went to answer it. I thought you were stepping into the lift. No wonder I was surprised to see you still standing outside, and with the Luna,” I lied, playing the innocent game.
Alpha Argon stared at me for a minute, before humming. “Okay, ” He uttered, rising from my desk.
I could see he was uncomfortable with Estelle’s coming. Maybe he wants to share his sudden feeling on seeing her. If only he would give me that chance to listen to his mind, just like the good old days.
But instead, he told me to proceed with my work, before heading to his own office. At least that’s a good sign.
When the evening came, I got Alpha Argon to stay back and help with a work I claimed to be difficult for me. He didn’t question me but just went along with it. And that gave me the chance to text Estelle to come over.
“I’m sorry for this, Sir. But you know we need to submit this tomorrow, so I don’t want the papers to contain any mistakes, ” I apologized to my Alpha, acting bothered.
Still, he didn’t say anything to me. He just kept his focus on the papers I brought, cross-checking for any errors, while I patiently waited for Estelle’s arrival.
She had texted back that she was close to the company, and I was set to make my exit by claiming to have another thing to face, only when she says she’s in the building.
But to my surprise, Estelle didn’t text me to say if she was inside or not. I was waiting and waiting, yet, no sign from her.
“Where is that woman? I thought she said she was close?” I pondered, looking at my phone which was on my lap. There was no call or text message from her.
After all the effort I put in keeping Alpha Argon down, my Alpha was done with the papers, getting ready to leave. “Keep every other pending work for tomorrow. This is already eight, ” He said, grabbing his keys and making his way out of the office.
I had to comply, taking an excuse from my Alpha. “I will keep this in my office, ” I said, walking away.
As soon as I stormed into my office, I called Estelle to know where she was. “Is she for real?! How many minutes does it take for her to enter a building?!” I was furious, waiting for her to pick my call.
When she answered, the next thing I heard was a roaring Estelle, who began to blast at me for something I didn’t do!
“What the hell Jerome?! You didn’t tell me you were changing the security guards. Those buffleheads didn’t allow me inside. They humiliated me! ”
“What are you talking about?” I asked, finding this weird. I know for a fact that I told the security guards to let Estelle in when they see her. So, what is she saying?
“I didn’t change any guards. Did you offend them or what?”
“I didn’t do such! They stopped me and threatened to get me arrested if I show up again,” She vented out, getting frustrated over the situation.
This isn’t right. Why are they acting that way towards Estelle after what I told them?
I had to end the call with Estelle and head out of the company to see the security guards. “After the tips I gave to them, they still went ahead to do this?” I stormed to the exit, seeing Alpha Argon’s car leaving through the gate.
When he was gone and I got closer to these dummies, I was… Stunned.
“Who… Who are you? ” I questioned the three hefty men at the gate. They aren’t the same security guards on duty from earlier. Where did they come from?
“We are the new securities. The Alpha hired us today,” One answered, surprising me even more.
“New Security guards? I know nothing about this. Why didn’t Alpha Argon tell me his plan to change the old ones?” I muttered, shocked to hear this.
That’s when another said, “The old securities were unfit to handle a tiny problem. So, he told us to kick or arrest the Princess of Red Wood pack, if she ever shows her face around the company.”
My eyes popped at this information. He made that rule? But I thought he was feeling some connections with Estelle? “Damn it! This is bad.” I rubbed my forehead, slowly distancing from the guards.
“Good job. Make sure you do as the Alpha has instructed.”
“Of course,” They chorused.
I went over to my car, got in, and made my way through the gate. My whole body was heating up from this matter. I thought we were getting somewhere, but no… It was all a misunderstanding.
“He wasn’t moved by her beauty. He was irritated! Shit! ” I stamped my fist on the steering wheel hard. “Seems that plan won’t work. We need another approach,” I reasoned, driving ahead into the main road.
But just when I was about to take the highway, my eyes caught sight of someone I least expected. “Brielle?”
She was standing at the other side of the road, looking for a cab. She wore a very funny long gown and a shawl to cover her head from being noticed.
“What is she doing here by this time?” I wondered, staring at her from my car.
She soon got a cab and got in, driving pass my direction. I had to lower my head when I saw the cab coming. I didn’t want her to see me.
But after seeing this sneaky side of her, an idea came to mind. “I’ll have to follow her and see where she’s going to, ” I decided, starting the car.
Carefully, I followed Brielle from a distance, wondering where she was heading. “For her to be out by this time, means she’s hiding something. I mean, what is a woman doing outside at this hour the night, instead of staying at home?”
I don’t know where she’s heading to, but deep down in my heart, I was sure that this action of hers would help me go a long way. It might just be the spark I was looking for in putting her down once and for all.
After what felt like forty minutes, I saw the cab pulling up at a weird looking building. “Is that a clinic?” I asked myself, shrinking my eyes to have a good look at the sign beside the building.
“That’s really a clinic. What is she doing here?” I got curious, as I slowly parked my car in a hidden spot, and got out of the vehicle to spy on Brielle.
Getting closer to one of the windows, I saw Brielle with a man in white coat, who was being too friendly with the Luna. Not just that, the man looked familiar.
“I’ve seen him before. He used to come over to the mansion to see Brielle. One of her suitors!” I finally identified the fellow, feeling my heart burning with joy.
“Is he some kind of doctor or nurse? Whatever, this is just what I need to silence this woman forever. The perfect attack.” With delight, I carefully took out my phone and began recording Brielle and this her lover together.
Just when I was filled with satisfaction, I heard something shocking from the man’s mouth. It struck my heart with a blow, causing me to peep into the room again to see Brielle signing a paper down.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” He asked, looking worried.
Brielle nodded, showing her readiness. “This is what I want. I have made up my mind,” She responded.
“This can’t be. Is she really serious?” I still couldn’t get out from the shock. Yet, it was important for me to leave before they see me.
With my evidence in hand, I rushed back to my car and called Estelle. She was sounding so mad over what happened, telling me to get lost. “Every plan you make always leads us to a dead end. Don’t call us again!”
“Then you won’t hear the greatest news I just discovered, ” I said, starting my car and driving off from that place.
“What are you talking about?”
“Trust me on this, Estelle. You are going to love it when I tell you who I just saw and what I heard. This will serve as a big comeback for you and your father, ” I assured her, leaving Estelle curious.
With this details in hand, I could feel a plan coming into mind. One I know will bruise Brielle’s ego for life.
