ARGON
“Once you’re done, send it to my email.”
“Yes sir.”
I just ended a brief meeting with my staffs, hiring a new worker to take Jerome’s place. With the work load on ground, I couldn’t take up the pending job, but find someone else to do it.
Since my so-called Beta has shown his true colors, I felt it was best if his name was eradicated from the face of this company, and my home.
“Sir, what about Beta Je…”
“What about who?” I interrupted one of the ladies in the roo. , who had her hand lifted in the air to ask a question.
On seeing my glare and hearing my voice, she immediately dropped her hand down and said, ” No one. I was… I didn’t say anything.”
“Good.” My eyes lingered from one staff to another, seeing how they all lowered their head in fear.
They want to ask about Jerome, but they know very well that if their boss has no interest in something or someone, they have to stay shut.
“This meeting is dismissed. You can all leave,” I said, rising to my feet.
They all did the same, waiting for me to take my leave first. It’s how it’s done. The head leaves before anyone.
As I made my way out of the office, I came to a halt on hearing these gossipers, talking about my failed wedding.
“The wedding ended halfway. It was just a disaster.”
“His bride was stripped naked before all by his ex-wife. That was a shocking event.”
“You’re saying it like Luna Brielle wanted to humiliate our boss’s bride. She was only saving her life. Didn’t you see the green substance they were wiping off her body?”
“I know, I saw it. I’m not saying she’s bad, I’m just amazed with the way things went down at the venue. ”
“That would explain the Alpha’s anger. Just look at how he was sharing Beta Jerome’s work around the room. Who knows where he is now.”
“You better keep it down, otherwise you’d be in soup. He gave us a job to handle, so we better work on it, mostly you. You’re the new assistant now.”
“Yeah, I know. You don’t have to remind me.”
Bunch of Baboons. This is how they gossip about me when I’m not around?
I knew they had the gist of my failed wedding in their heads. Their eyes said it when I arrived at the company this morning. They all gawked at me, greeting me with smiles. I know these chatter boxes very well.
“They are lucky that I need them, otherwise I would have sacked them all and hired new staffs to take their places. ” I groaned, walking away from the meeting room.
With all assignments distributed to my workers, I decided to leave and head back to the mansion.
My body and mind wasn’t ready to work fully. I needed to get myself and also make sure Brielle gets better.
After that battle with Alpha Deron and Estelle two days ago, I’ve been staying in my room and away from Brielle.
My mood didn’t allow me to check up on her, but I still asked about her health from Tania, who would roam around, bringing things that Brielle needed.
“I’ll pay her a visit when I get home, ” I concluded, exiting the company and into my car.
I drove off and soon arrived at my mansion, pulling my car towards the building. Just when I was going to make a turn into the parking lot, my eyes caught site of a familiar vehicle.
“Wait, that’s… That’s the council’s car, ” I recognized.
I know they no longer tell me when they are coming over to pay a visit, since they have stripped me off my position and some other important things, but at least someone should have contacted me to inform me of their coming.
And it’s either they are here to see Brielle about her health or they are here for the other matter.
“Goddess, not now. I don’t have the strength for this drama,” I shivered in my seat, parking the car quickly.
Speedily, I got out and rushed into the mansion. I was about to ask a guard where the council members were, but my eyes caught sight of Brielle and Tania, stepping into the living room.
This meant that the Councils where in the room, waiting for her.
She walked slowly like an old lady while Tania was supporting her from the left side. I would have dived in to assist Brielle, but they were already in the room.
All I could do was wait for the councils to be done with their meeting with Brielle.
“Maybe… Maybe I’ll just sneak and hear what they are saying. It’s important I know what they are here for,” I reasoned, carefully drawing nearer to the door.
When I got there, standing at the corner, I heard the councils asking Brielle about her health. She was responding to them in a weak tone, letting them know she was fine.
“We can see you’re looking better than before. Tania must be taking special care of you, ” They praised the maid.
I heard Tania giggling and thanking the councils for their kind words. “I really appreciate it, but most of the work was done by Alpha Argon. He has been watching over my Luna,” She confessed, giving credit to me.
My heart skipped when I heard my name. This got me poking my head a little, so I could have a better view on what was going on inside.
There, I spotted Brielle sitting on the couch while Tania stood at her right, telling the councils how I followed Doctor Nicole’s instructions.
“Even when he’s occupied with work, he always make time for my Luna. So please, the credit should be given to him, ” Tania pointed, bowing her head at the councils.
A glow filled my heart after listening to Tania’s words. But I was more interested in Brielle’s take on what her maid just said. And I wasn’t the only one.
“Do you agree with that, Luna?” They asked Brielle, finding this testimony to be astonishing.
I dropped my eyes on Brielle and saw her nodding slowly. “She’s saying the truth. Argon has been the one taking good care of me. Even when I don’t have an interest in eating what the doctor has listed down, he would make sure I take it. He… He has been helpful, ” She shared, smiling at them.
I couldn’t explain my feeling at that point. Would I call it joy or shock?
Brielle’s words had left the councils silent. I saw how they drew closer to themselves, whispering something.
Where I stood, I was grinning with happiness. With all her stubbornness, she still saw the good in my effort, presenting it to the council members.
If not for this oldies that are here, I would have rushed in to hug Brielle for having my back in this time like this. She’s always supporting me despite our differences.
“Alright Brielle, we’ve heard you,” One of them said, rising to his feet. The others did the same as well.
“We just wanted to check up on you and make sure everything is okay here. If you say you’re doing well, then we are fine with your response.”
“Thank you, Councils,” Brielle appreciated, bowing at them from her where she sat.
Due to my joy, I almost voiced out the words ‘Thank You’. But I held my voice back and immediately walked away from the door, so the councils, who were coming, won’t see me.
This is appealing. The meeting went well and brief.
“As usual. Pretend you didn’t see them, ” I said, composing myself and walking back to the living room.
That’s when the trio stepped out and spotted me at their left hand side.
“Oh, Greetings!” I gasped, acting surprised. I drew nearer and bowed, showing my respect to my elders.
“Argon, you’re back?”
“We thought you went to the office?” They asked, lifting their brows in amused.
I smiled and responded to their question, ” I was, but I felt like returning home to check up on Brielle. Someone needs to keep an eye on her more often.”
“Hmm. You’re right about that, ” The elderly lady said, tilting her head to the side.
“It’s funny how you show up right after our meeting with Brielle. Could it be that you’re hiding from us? ” The elderly woman asked, smirking.
What she said made my heart skip. Did she notice my presence? “No, not at all. Why would you say that? ” I chuckled, trying to hide my shock.
I still maintained my smiles, inviting them to lunch. “Stay for some minutes, please. Let me serve you. ”
“No need, Son. We have other things to do, ” They turned the offer down, making their way to the entrance.
I followed from behind, escorting them out of the mansion while expressing my wish to have them over again. “Maybe this time I can treat you all properly ” I said, even if it wasn’t from my mind.
The councils appreciated my offer and said, ” Maybe next time, like you said.”
“Oh, that’s great then.”
“Yes, we’ll all get to sit down and talk about the divorce between you and Brielle. That would be nice, isn’t that right?”
“Yes, indeed.”
“Absolutely.”
Now my happiness faded on hearing what they just said. I thought they wouldn’t bring this matter up, but it’s clear they still want to judge me for my past act.
“We didn’t want to trouble Brielle about this case, since she’s recovery from that poison. When she’s strong, we’ll all sit down and finalize this matter, once and for all.”
“Oh, okay. That’s… That’s fine,” I faltered, trying to keep a straight face.
The councils said their goodbyes and left my home, leaving me outside my mansion, thinking of what they just said.
“The divorce. Dammit!”
That word used to bring a smile to my face back then, and now it’s doing the opposite.
I feel uncomfortable just thinking about it.
