ARGON
Restless, that’s how I felt while pacing outside the emergency room, watching how nurses ran in and out of the room with speed.
“Don’t delay! Hurry up!!” I heard Doctor Nicole’s voice from inside, yelling out to the nurses that dashed out of the room.
I needed to know how Brielle was doing, but the way everything was going before my eyes, scared me deeply.
“Brielle, you have to be fine. You have to be fine, ” I panicked, pacing outside.
“Alpha, ” I heard a familiar voice calling out to me from the pathway at the left. When I lifted my head, I saw Jerome coming.
He had his hand pointing backwards to the area he just came out from, asking, “What are you doing here?”
He came beside me, touching me on the shoulder. He noticed how troubled I was and assumed it was all for Estelle. “Alpha, Estelle will be fine. We should thank the goddess thay she survived the poison. Please, be calm and come with me, ” He said, about to pull me along.
But I immediately shoved his hand aside, stunning my Beta. “Let me be! You can go and stay with Estelle and her father, because I’m not going anywhere.”
“But why?” Jerome asked, looking confused.
That’s when the nurses who raced out of the emergency room earlier, came rushing back.
When I saw them, I pushed Jerome aside and rushed up to them, asking about Brielle. “How’s she, please? Can you just tell me how her condition is at the moment?”
“Please, you’ll have to wait, ” They had said, heading back into the room, leaving me frustrated once again.
“SHIT!!” I yelled, stamping my hand against the wall in anger. No one was saying a thing and Doctor Nicole is still inside attending to Brielle.
I need to know what is happening in there!
“What’s going on, Alpha? Who’s in the room?” Jerome asked, pointing at the door.
I sighed out while pacing about and said, “It’s… It’s Brielle.”
” Brielle?!” His eyes came popping large, glancing from the door then back at me.
“What happened to her? How did she end up in there? ” He questioned, drawing nearer to the door in confusion.
“I thought she left the hospital after you two brought Estelle down here? What is she doing in the emergency room?”
“The poison… They found part of it in her, and they are trying to flush it out of her system, ” I shared with my beta, leaning close to the wall and slowly sliding down on my heels, squatting on the ground.
“She was sitting next to me, looking uncomfortable and I failed to notice it. I… I just sat there talking!” I groaned, grabbing my head.
Jerome came closer to me and said, “Get a grip on yourself, Alpha. You shouldn’t be worried about her that much.”
“What do you mean by that?” That statement sounded off in my ears. I lifted my eyes at my beta and noticed how his pupils shut inward, stammering out his next words.
“I… What I’m saying is that… Look, Estelle was also in that state. I’m sure Brielle would be out of there in no time. So, you shouldn’t panic too much, please,” He said, placing his hand on my shoulder again.
He makes it sound so easy, but he’s too blind to see how bitter I feel knowing that Brielle is in that room, battling for her life after saving someone else’s.
I feel so… So guilty.
Jerome stayed with me for the next twenty minutes, before the red light above the emergency room came off.
When I saw this, I immediately got to my feet and drew closer to the door, hoping to meet Brielle.
The door came opened and Doctor Nicole stepped out of the room, looking so tired.
I quickly drew near her and asked, “How’s Brielle?! Is she okay?!”
“Oh, you are still here? ” She looked at me in amusement, acting like one who’s just seeing me for the first time today.
“I thought you where with your wife?” She said, still surprised to find me there.
I didn’t care about her reaction, but asked about Brielle once again. “Is the poison out of her? Is she going to be fine?”
“Calm down, Alpha. Let me answer one question at a time.”
“Okay, okay, I will, ” I promised, calming myself.
She held me by the hand and carefully led me away from the room, with Jerome following us from behind. Then she said softly, almost as if she didn’t want everyone hearing us, ” It wasn’t easy. The poison in her system was worse than the one we took out from Estelle.”
“Was it a different one or the same poison as Estelle’s,” I asked, feeling worried.
Doctor Nicole confirmed it to be the same with Estelle’s, saying, “It wasn’t much, that I’d say, but for the fact that it was in her body made it more dangerous. I don’t know how it got there, but it seems she got sprinkled unknowingly. It had spread all over her system.”
Oh Goddess!
“But, she’s out of danger. She’s fine now, ” She delivered the final news I needed, relieving me of my fear.
I gave out a sigh of relief, leaning against the wall that was closer to us. Jerome stood near me, showing his support.
“I’ll get the nurses to take her into a better room. Please excuse me.” Doctor Nicole walked back to the emergency room, leaving Jerome and I behind.
I could finally breath. Brielle was out of danger.
“See, I told you everything would be fine. You didn’t have to panic over something as small as this.”
“Small?” I grabbed that word, glaring at my beta. His smiles faded on seeing my eyes. Can he hear himself clearly? Did he call this case small?
“I’ll go and see Alpha Deron. He was asking about you before,” He said, drawing his steps away from me. And just like that Jerome left, heading back to Estelle’s room.
I remained in my spot, staring at my Beta from behind as he drew further and further away from me. But the sound of the emergency door opening up, caught my attention.
I turned over to that point and saw the nurses, along with Doctor Nicole and her fellow team, pulling Brielle out on a stretcher.
My heart skipped, driving me towards her point. After she passed out in my arms and I felt her breathe ceasing right in my hold, I’ve been so terrified.
But now that she was out of danger… I wished to hold her close and make sure she was indeed okay.
I need to feel her heart beat.
“Seventy nine, that’s her assigned room,” Doctor Nicole said to the nurses, approaching me.
I watched a pale skin Brielle being taken away on the stretcher. Her innocent face struck me deep.
“Brielle,” I called, trying to follow the nurses to her room. But Doctor Nicole said something, halting me in my track. “You don’t have to go with her, Alpha. Don’t worry, there are nurses that can watch over your ex-wife till she’s fine.”
I turned over to face her. Why was she sounding strange?
“I appreciate you for standing out here, waiting for Brielle, but she’s out of danger. You are free to be with your wife now. My nurses will take things from here.”
“But I want to see…”
“Alpha, you don’t have to, please,” Doctor Nicole said, sounding serious.
“Look, I don’t want to sound rude, but I really want Brielle to get well. I don’t want anyone to interrupt her treatment just like the way you did when she had her miscarriage,” She reminded me of my past deeds, and it got to me hard.
“It’s best you go and stay with your wife and father in-law. Estelle would need you more than Brielle does, ” She said, walking pass me.
I stood there all alone, with her words sinking deep inside my head. My eyes looking at the left path were Estelle’s room was located, and then at the right path were Brielle was taken.
“Stay with Estelle? But… But Brielle…”
