ARGON
After all the struggles and battles, the D day was finally here.
Here I was, standing before the mirror and getting ready for the wedding ceremony taking place tonight.
Jerome was helping me out with my white and golden suit, making sure it was a perfect fit, while I just stared at my reflection like a completely different person.
It’s just like my first wedding. That day, I was getting ready with rage all over me, and now I’m getting ready with nothing but… Honestly, I can’t really tell my mood.
Do I call it a mix feeling?
I am either upset or mad, or even unhappy. I just can’t tell which mood to select, and it all revolves around one person who has chosen to keep her feelings hidden away.
“What are your true feelings for me?” Brielle’s voice echoed in my head, taking me back to last night’s incident in her room.
Those questions have been in my head, giving me a sleepless night. It’s by luck I slept and woke on time to get things set for tonight.
“You’re looking good, Alpha,” Jerome commented, helping me with my suit.
I hummed at his words, still staring at my reflection.
“Everyone would be marvelled when they see you. I bet the councils would even fall in love with your appearance and forget all that happened in the past, ” He joked, reminding me of the judgement.
That planted fear in me, taking my thoughts back to Brielle again. “Where’s Brielle?” I asked Jerome, looking at my Beta through the mirror.
He shrugged at me and said, ” I don’t know, Alpha. The last time I saw her, she was stepping out of the mansion. I don’t really know where she was heading to.”
This didn’t sound pleasant to my ears. What if she has gone to meet the councils concerning my constant attacks?
I mean… Today is the wedding. They must have called her to hear her final decision.
“Dammit! Who knows what she has in store for me,” I muttered, rubbing my face in worry.
That’s when Jerome placed his hand on my shoulder and said, “Why are you worried about that, Alpha? Listen, I’m sure the councils would give you your throne without any problem.”
“And what makes you say that? ” I asked, facing my beta. He smirked at me with confidence and began to talk about Red wood pack’s council members, comparing ours with them.
“They pass their judgement based on how one is doing in the pack.”
“Where did you hear that from?” I questioned, but he didn’t say.
“Forget that, Alpha. Look, you’ve been doing wonderfully well in your business and even towards Brielle. I’m sure our councils would forgive and give you the throne, ” He sounded confident, smiling at me.
Can he hear himself well?
“Jerome, Red Wood isn’t Wolf Crest. Their councils are nothing like ours. These old wolves see Brielle as their own daughter. If they gave her the final say, then she’s the one who’ll decide my future, ” I reminded him, so he wouldn’t give me false hope.
My beta’s smiles faded. He no longer had the zeal to encourage me.
“Don’t compare Wolf Crest to Red wood any more. Those councils judge on ones reputation, but ours judge based on your behavior and facts,” I corrected him, facing the mirror with a sigh escaping my lips.
“We should head down to the Hall and get things ready before the guests arrive. If you see Brielle, let me know.”
“Okay, Alpha, ” Jerome responded from behind.
Just as I was about to take my suit off… “Alpha,” Jerome called, stopping me in my track.
I turned to face my Beta and noticed how worried he was looking. Is he still thinking about the judgement that would be passed on me?
But it wasn’t that. It was something else.
“I don’t think the number of guards we have would be enough for the wedding.”
“And why?” I lifted my brow, finding this strange. We have more than thirty guards. If we add Alpha Deron’s men, we have a full house.
But Jerome felt it wasn’t enough.
“Why are you asking for more guards? It’s a wedding, not a war.”
“I know, Alpha, but…” He paused, finding it hard to speak. His hands kept falling on his neck, as he repeat his demand, suggesting for more protection.
No, this isn’t normal.
“Did you do something wrong?” I asked, suspecting my Beta. I know he can’t do something bad that would lead to an army of guards shielding the wedding ground. I just needed an answer.
Jerome swayed his head and said, “How do I tell you this? You will only see it as Jerome being a mad man. But I am not joking. ”
“What is it? Tell me, what’s the problem?” I asked, placing both hands on his shoulders.
He looked into my eyes, sighed and finally answered me. “Alpha, it’s important for the wedding ground to be security tight with lots of men, otherwise, that wedding may not take place.”
“May not take place?!” My eyes came large.
“Yes! Alpha… It’s that wolf, ” Jerome mentioned, stepping away from me, looking troubled. “It’s that Green-eyed monster I told you about. It has been sneaking around, spying on this mansion. And… And I know it’s looking for me and Estelle, trying to harm us.”
“Are you for real?” I asked, laughing at him. He got me scared over this joke? Damn, he got me.
“I’m serious. This isn’t a joke, ” He said, trying to convince me. But I understand he’s trying to put a smile on my face by talking about that Imaginary creature Estelle came up with.
“You’re hilarious, Jerome. I get your message. Don’t worry, I’ll protect Estelle and my baby with all of my heart. But I must say, you have a funny way of passing this message,” I laughed, patting him.
But he wasn’t smiling or laughing back. He just stood there, staring like a statue. And I won’t lie, it got me frightened a bit.
It’s just an imaginary creature. He should stop this jokes.
I told Jerome to wait for me while I take off my suit and get set to leave. “I don’t want to stain it. The wedding is at night, ” I said, escorting him to the door.
Still, my beta wasn’t okay. I could feel his aura changing from its bright sensation to a troubling one. It was affecting me in a strange way.
When Jerome left, I closed the door and laughed off the matter of this wolf he has been talking about.
“He’s a funny man. Green eyes? Can he hear himself? Even the councils would laugh when they hear such a tale.”
I proceeded to take off my wedding attire.
