ARGON
A day after that incident, I found myself at Estelle’s home, apologizing to her for getting mad at her action.
She was in her father’s hold, acting like a little girl who doesn’t know her way around.
I was expecting her to start a drama like she always does, but Estelle calmly apologized to me. “I didn’t mean to make you angry, my love. Please, forgive me, ” She had pleaded, almost falling at my feet for mercy.
“Stop it, Estelle. I’m not mad any more, ” I had said, stopping her from going on her knees.
She gave me a smile and embraced me, thanking me for accepting her apology.
“I don’t know why I’m being like this, but I’ll try my best to make you happy, Argon,” She said, making a promise.
When she made that statement, I reminded myself of her condition and found myself believing what my beta had said about pregnant ladies and how their emotions tend to control them in their state.
I had to forgive Estelle, warning her not to make any decisions without my concern. She assured me, promising to do as I wish.
Once I settled things with her, I decided to meet Brielle and also apologize for yelling at her.
Though Brielle didn’t show any care towards my behavior that day, I still felt like talking to her.
“Who knows what she’s harboring in that heart of hers? She must be raging within, but on the outside she’s putting on a fake smile. No, I don’t believe she’s calm with my action, ” I suspected, noting Brielle’s behavior.
I didn’t know how to approach her at the mansion. She refused to stay one place, but kept walking around like a workaholic.
Since she wasn’t giving me the chance at home, I decided to trap her at the company instead.
And successfully, I got her attention.
We had a project to handle together as a team, and that gave me the chance to speak to Brielle about my actions that day.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what? ” She asked, lifting her brow in confusion.
The cold stare she delivered left me feeling uncomfortable with this behavior of hers. I know she has decided to make this attitude a part of her life and feel tough around people, but for once, can’t she just give me a sign that she cares?
“For the way I behaved after the councils left. I… I didn’t mean to explode like that,” I shared, finding it hard to maintain an eye contact with Brielle.
She didn’t care but shrugged and said, ” Okay then, I’ve heard you. But can we focus on this project for now?”
She dropped her attention back on the work, marveling me with her attitude.
I wasn’t pleased.
Just then, I came up with a better solution to get Brielle out of this grumpy mood of hers.
“I’ll treat you to a nice date this evening. What do you say?” I offered. And that got Brielle landing her gaze on me.
“A date? ” She titled her head, looking amused.
That face expression left a spark of hope in me, pushing me to answer her question. “Yes, a date. Just the two of us. It’s going to be different from the ones we’ve been having. I consider that as two partners at work.” I chuckled.
Brielle didn’t laugh but hummed. She agreed to the plan, suggesting we finish the project before leaving.
“If we can end this today, then we can go on this date you’ve planned.”
“No problem,” I accepted her words.
And trust me, I made sure we ended that assignment that same day, so we could head out together.
I got a table ready at one our usual restaurant, sitting together at the terrace and admiring the view from above.
Finally alone, I ceased the opportunity to ask Brielle some questions.
“What did you and the councils talk about that day? Was it about me and the throne? ” I asked.
Brielle told me what they had come over to talk about. And it was mainly about her future.
“Since it’s the third month now, they wanted to know my plans once you and Estelle are married,” She shared.
On hearing that, my heart skipped a bit, remembering the promise she made that day I demanded for the divorce papers.
I’m surprised that it’s already three months.
So fast.
“So, what was your answer? Did you share your plans with them? ” I asked, getting curious to know what Brielle wants to do when she leaves.
She shrugged and said, ” I didn’t quite tell them everything, but I just told them about my job at the company. Every other thing I’ll handle.”
She gave a smirk out to nothing, sipping her drink.
I needed to know her plans, but I didn’t want her wondering why I was being desperate. Seems I’ll have to find a way to get my answers but in a coded manner.
“That’s good,” I supported Brielle, nodding my head.
“So, since you’re still working as my secretary, I bet you’ll be getting a place closer to the company, right? There are some nice apartments around. I could help get one for you. ”
“I didn’t say I’m going to stay anywhere close to the company,” She corrected, levitating her brow in amusement. “I don’t plan to live close.”
“Oh, so… Um… Where do you wish to stay? I could be of help in getting you a place,” I offered my assistance.
But Brielle swayed her head and said, “Even if I’m going to get a place, it won’t be in Wolf Crest. ”
“What?!” I was stunned at her plans.
Not in wolf crest?
Then where?
I acted cool and tried to get Brielle to tell me where she planned on moving to, but she stubbornly refused, telling me not to poke my nose into her private life.
“You don’t need to know.” She smiled.
This was beginning to eat me up. If she decides to stay somewhere far from the pack, doesn’t that mean she’d also quit her job and stop coming to the company?
I… I won’t be able to see her face any more!
Uncomfortable, I asked her why she’d make such plans for herself. “This is pack is your home. Why choose a different place?”
“Like I said, Argon, you don’t have to know. It’s my life and my decision. Why are you trying to poke yourself into my privacy?”
“I’m… I just want…” I couldn’t tell her my reason for asking all these questions. It will only make her think I’m after her new life.
But when this plan is taking her far away from me… I don’t think I can accept it.
I lied to Brielle that I was only looking out for her and didn’t want her getting stranded.
“You aren’t just my ex-wife but my father’s daughter-in-law. At least let me handle your accommodation when we…”
“No thanks, I’m capable,” She rejected, smiling at me.
This almost sent me into a rampage. I unknowingly stamped my hand on the table and questioned loudly, ” Why are you acting like a lone wolf? You have no one to look after you once you sign those papers and leave this place. At least swallow your pride and accept my help!”
“Pride? ” She scoffed, chuckling at my words. “Don’t mistake my independence for Pride, Argon. This is a woman who is struggling to find her life outside of this world she once called her home. It is not pride, but my zeal to find a better life from here.”
That sank deep into me. I could understand what she meant by that, and it only made me feel guilty.
“It’s me, right? You are trying to run far away from me, isn’t it? ” I asked.
Before Brielle could respond, we heard the screaming voice of the manager to the restaurant and… A crowd?
Suddenly, the door leading to the terrace came wide open, with a large group of press, rushing towards Brielle and I!
We were stunned to see the media flashing their cameras at us, throwing questions that didn’t sit right into my eardrums.
“What’s all these?! What do you want?!” I raised my voice, shielding Brielle from this hungry wolves.
Luckily for us, my guards, who had escorted us to the date, and the securities of the restaurant, blocked the press from nearing Brielle and I.
That’s when their questions began to ring in my ears loudly.
“Tell us the truth. Is your supposed bride expecting your heir?”
“Are you sure the baby belongs to you? ”
“Why have you been ignoring her? Could it be that you’ve finally rejected her to be with your ex-wife again?”
“Tell us. The whole world needs to know what you’ve decided now that your mistress is pregnant.”
Horror filled my entire body system!
How did they know about Estelle’s pregnancy?
Who gave them this information?!
I was still frozen by this sudden questions, listening to the press asking about the baby and my plans for the future.
“There’s a rumor about you, Luna Brielle. A gossip about you poisoning the mind of your ex-husband, so he’d dump his mistress and his heir, as a form of revenge on what happened to your dead child. How true is that?”
“What rubbish?!” I sparked on hearing this nonsense about Brielle.
“You people only listen to fake tales that aren’t true, just to cause problem in someone’s life! Get lost!” I roared, ordering my guards to send them off.
All of a sudden, Brielle stopped me and said, “You shouldn’t ignore their questions, Argon. Give them the answer they need.”
I didn’t want to say anything to this wreckers, but Brielle had something ready for them.
She stepped forward and asked the latter who threw that question at her, “You are asking me how true that story is? I should be asking you, Mr Journalist… Do you believe such a tale?”
“It’s what I heard, Luna.”
“It’s what you heard? But you have been in this pack for long and you have seen the kind of woman Luna Brielle is. So, I’ll ask you this question again. Not just you but all of you… Do you believe suck tales? ”
There was a sudden silence from the press. They couldn’t give their answer to that.
“Exactly what I thought. You don’t have an answer to back up this juicy questions you’re all throwing, all in the name of feeding the public,” She pointed out.
“Since the day you all got to know about Luna Brielle, have you ever seen me making trouble with anyone?” She asked, and they swayed their head.
“Now why are you asking me this kind of question? Why?!” She raised her voice.
One of the press then said, ” But we have been seeing how you and Alpha Argon roam about in Princess Estelle’s absence.”
“And does that say I am plotting against her? Just because Argon and I move about in the public together, you assumed I’m making plans to get rid of Estelle? Is that it?” She questioned, crossing her arms.
They couldn’t utter a word on seeing how Brielle got mad. She was furious.
“Now listen to this and make sure your cameras are rolling. Don’t go about causing problems for people all because of what you heard. What happens in their private life isn’t your cup of tea! If you say I’m planning to push Estelle away from Argon, then why am I suffering myself to get them together?!”
They stared on, amused at how Brielle stood her ground, shunning them from ever making such an accusation.
I felt impressed, but soon felt hurt at what she said next.
“The man you all think I’m after, doesn’t share any bond with me. He’s just my boss at the company and nothing else. We are just strangers to each other.”
My heart sank at this.
She’s openly accepting this separation before the world.
“I don’t have any relationship with him. He belongs to Estelle, not me,” she said.
