CHAPTER 61

ARGON
I may have an enmity with Damien, but I’m not cruel to leave his men to die.
They were rushed down to the hospital for treatment, having no clue on what had attacked them in the bushes.
I took this matter to the authorities, reporting Damien’s action, but that animal denied everything, claiming his men came over to show their support, since I had less workers.
He easily got away with it, since the authorities didn’t have that respect for me like before.
But I didn’t mind. I know once I get this contract, I’ll be back at my spot as the number one business man of the year.
They will all respect me once again.
“He did this to them!” Damien accused me.
But the marks on his men’s body was enough to prove I was innocent.
Even when the hospital and authorities asked if we saw what had attacked the Lycans, we told them we didn’t see a thing.
“They where in the grasses and we where at the factory. We heard them screaming and found them in this state, ” I gave my report.
That was enough to silence Damien’s claim, because the authorities believed some kind of wild animal must have stepped into our territory, attacking the men unexpectedly.
“We’ll try to search for this creature and put it down, before it harms innocent people,” They had said.
I decided to push this matter aside, desperate to put Damien in his place once and for all.
My workers will be done with the remaining batches this night, and we can head over to Sir Derek’s office tomorrow and deliver the job.
From the look of things, I think Damien hasn’t gotten anywhere with his on work. That’s why he sent his men to sabotage mine, but failed.
“Heaven bless the animal that attacked them, ” I mocked, heading back to the mansion with Jerome.
Since it’s the last night and my guards would stay back to keep watch, we decided to return back to the mansion and have a proper night rest.
When we arrived, the first thing I did was ask about Brielle from the guard I spoke with before.
He told me she was sleeping in the room and didn’t want anyone disturbing her.
I felt a sting in my heart, believing she was awake but didn’t want to talk to anyone. And it’s all because of me.
Just as we were talking, my eyes caught sight of Tania, stepping out of the kitchen with a glass of water in her hold.
“That must be for Brielle,” I assumed, having no doubt.
“You can go, ” I said to the guard, rushing up to her.
Before she could walk down the path, I called her name. The maid suddenly vibrated in fear, turning around to face me.
“Alpha? You’re back,” She said, looking surprised.
I ignored her face expression and asked about Brielle. “Is she awake?”
“Oh… No, she’s not. She’s sleeping,” She said.
She must be lying.
“Tania, if she told you to say that to anyone, it’s fine. Just tell me if she’s awake or not.”
“I’m serious, she’s asleep. She has been in her room all day. She fell asleep some minutes ago, planning to wake early and head for the factory,” Tania shared with me.
“And what about the water in your hand?” I pointed at the glass.
“It’s for me. I get thirsty sometimes and fund it hard to do without a drink, ” She said.
I didn’t bother to ask any further question, since Tania was repeating the same thing my guard had told me.
Humming, I excused Tania. She bowed at me and left my sight.
Slowly, I made my way to my room, questioning my action towards Brielle. “Did I overreact? I was just trying to protect her from making a mistake,” I said, recalling her harsh words at me.
I can’t help but feel bitter, knowing Brielle sees me that way. After all, that’s the impression I stamped into her memory, through my abuses on her in the past.
“I’ll have to work things out with her. Like Jerome said, I have to make amends if I want my throne again,” I said, drawing closer to the room.
.
The following morning, we were up and ready to meet Sir Derek.
The workers called to pass the great news, in which I passed down to Sir Derek out of excitement.
The old man was impressed. He couldn’t wait to see us at his company.
“We’ll be there soon, ” I said to him through the phone, making my way down the stairs.
That’s when I spotted Brielle with Jerome, waiting for me. Seems my Beta told her about the news and she got herself ready to meet with Sir Derek.
“We’ll be leaving now. See you soon,” I said, ending the call.
Stepping down, I drew closer to my Beta and Brielle, asking if they were ready.
Jerome responded properly while Brielle hummed. It’s clear she’s still annoyed with me.
I had to take it, suggesting we leave for Sir Derek’s company.
We moved out together and journeyed down to the company. And throughout the ride, Brielle didn’t look at me or a even say a word.
She made me look invincible.
When we pulled up at the company, we were stunned to find Damien outside with Sir Derek. The latter was bragging about his goods being ready.
“What in the world!” I uttered, feeling troubled.
“Please tell me he hasn’t delivered the goods already.” I panicked.
When we got nearer to them…
“Look who’s late, ” Damien mocked, crossing his arms. He asked for our goods but I didn’t give him an answer.
“Where’s your goods?” I threw the question back at him, looking around to spot any truck. But there was nothing.
He scoffed at me and said, “My workers are bringing it down as we speak. They’ll be here very soon.”
“What a coincidence. Mine is doing the same as well. So that means whoever arrives first, gets the job, right? ” I asked, facing Sir Derek.
He nodded at me, confirming it. “The first to arrive will be my new partner,” Sir Derek said, making it clear.
“And that would be me. You don’t know the effort my men put into this task. They worked tirelessly, day and night, midnight to midnight, hour…”
“Good for you,” Brielle shunned Damien, interrupting him.
I was glad to hear her speak. I thought she was going to stay silent forever.
Her action left Damien a bit annoyed. But he waved it aside, smiling at Brielle.
“I can understand your frustration my dearest, but I promise to give you a special gift once this is over, ” He promised Brielle.
She smirked at Damien and said, ” Only time will tell. Who knows what the heavens have planned. We can’t decide the future.”
“Yes, we can’t de…”
RING! RING!! Damien’s phone began to buzz out. He carefully pulled it out and proudly told us who the caller was. “Well look at that! The manager is already calling. Seems the goods is closer than we thought,” He chuckled, answering the call.
I was already panicking within, finding it hard to keep up with my boldness.
If Damien wins, what will be left of me?
All of a sudden, Damien sparked out. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY IT FELL INTO THE SEA?!” He roared, walking away from our point in shock.
My eyes came large at what I heard.
Fall into the sea?
What fell?
The goods?
I couldn’t hold back the joy that was beginning to overwhelm me. Something bad has happened to Damien, causing the once proud king to sweat in horror.
“No, no, no! Don’t tell me that! Why didn’t you call me last night? Why now?!… Oh, you thought you could retrieve… Can you hear yourself?!”
This was getting juicy. My curiosity took over, and I ended up using my wolf hearing to listen to the conversation.
“We don’t know what happened. The moment we arrived at the port, the machine that was lifting the containers pushed everything into the sea. I swear we didn’t see who was behind the wheel,” Damien’s manager reported.
This news came as a surprise to me. This means Damien has lost.
“What about the ones at the factories? Are they on their way?” He questioned.
But the feedback was as terrible as hell.
The manager revealed that the goods were ruined in all the factories.
Damien was frozen to the core.
“Are you hearing this, Alpha?” Jerome whispered beside me, getting excited. He was also listening to the sweet information.
Who won’t be excited to hear this?
Out of anger, Damien ended the call and made a run for it. Sir Derek called to know were he was heading to, but he didn’t say a word.
He just got into his car and left.
And as soon as he left, my trucks came in with the goods, making us the winner and new partner to Sir Derek’s company.
I was thrilled.
“Seems King Damien ran out of words and went to the store to get some more. Too bad he lost, ” Brielle mocked, smirking at Sir Derek.
The old man laughed and happily congratulated me on winning the bet, showing his trust in my effort.
“Brielle was right about you, Argon. I’m glad you took up the challenge to prove Damien wrong. Now you are my business partner. Welcome back to the business world.”
“Thank you, ” I appreciated, shaking hands with him.
At long last, we made it. I finally bagged a contract that will take me far and wide. And this is all because of Brielle.
I directed my eyes to her point and met Brielle clapping for me. She suddenly gave me a wink, smirking wide.
I smiled at her, unable to hold back the joy I was feeling.
We finally did it.
