ARGON
“Why didn’t they pick my call then? ” I wondered, finding this strange.
Jerome was still on the call with the guard, who shared that Estelle and Deron never left their home but have been indoor all day.
“I don’t understand this. If they didn’t go anywhere and have been inside, why didn’t they answer your calls?” Jerome asked, looking amused as well.
Knowing I couldn’t just wait around to find out why, I decided to pay them a visit and know what had happened.
I immediately left the mansion with my beta following from behind. We both got into the car and drove out of Wolf Crest.
Even while driving out of my pack, my people, those that spotted my car, almost broke the glasses with stones, yelling at me in mockery.
This was just too much to bear, but I had to take it for now. At the moment, my mind was on Alpha Deron, the one who promised to save me from this shame.
I need to know what happened.
As we journeyed along the way, I was following the posts on my failure, reading bad comments about me and my company.
It was heartbreaking to read on.
Just when I was about to exit from the net, Jerome called my attention immediately. “We’re here, ” He said, stopping the car right in from of Alpha Deron’s mansion.
When I saw that we had arrived, I immediately got out of the car, rushing into the mansion with speed.
My heart was pumping fast, as I dived into the building, calling out to Estelle and her father.
On getting nearer to the opening of the mansion, I saw Alpha Deron and Estelle at the top of the stairs, looking at me.
“Thank the goddess you’re here, ” I said, feeling relieved to see them.
But there was something off about their face expression that left me troubled, most especially Estelle’s.
She didn’t even rush down the stairs to come and hug or kiss me like she always does. She just stayed there behind her father, looking away.
This was beginning to frighten me.
“What’s going on? Is everything alright?” I asked, drawing closer to the staircase.
“Alpha Deron, what happened? You promised to help send the money by noon, but I didn’t get any alert nor did you answer my calls. Even Estelle didn’t pick. It’s… It’s usual,” I asked, drawing nearer to them.
Before I could take the next step…
“Stop right there, ” Alpha Deron halted me on my track loudly, giving me the palm.
I was stunned by the tone he used. What’s happening here?
That’s when Deron gave out a sigh and said, “Argon, my boy… Look, you’re a wonderful man with a great business mind. But… ” He paused, struggling to speak on.
The ‘But’ was enough to show that something bad was about to take place, but I kept hoping it was my mind playing a trick on me.
But I was wrong.
“Argon, your status in your pack and other areas have really dropped low. No body wants to work with you anymore. If I decide to get myself involve in your matter, it’s going to ruin my reputation as an Alpha and a business man.”
“What?” I uttered in disbelief, understanding where Deron was going with all these grammars.
“My boy, I am very sorry, but I can’t help you. You are no longer the man my daughter fell in love with. You’re now a poor helpless wolf, unwanted by everyone. If I decide to give you that money, what guarantee do I have that you’ll pay me back when you’re broke like hell? ” He questioned strongly, hitting on my case.
My heart sank deeply at this shocking words coming from Deron. This is the same man who kept singing my praises and calling me his son. Now that I needed him the most, he just turned his back on me?
I watched Deron raise both hands at me, apologizing for my misfortune. “But I can’t allow my reputation to go down the drain because of your bad luck. I’m a business man. And I know you’ll understand this if you where in my place, ” He said, justifying his actions.
I was struck.
I navigated my eyes to Estelle and saw how she kept hiding herself behind her father, trying not to look at me.
It was crystal clear to me already. They have shown me my place before their feet.
“So, after all the sweet talks and promises, you finally decided to leave me in the gutters? ” I asked Deron.
He just glared at me, crossing his arms with no remorse.
I chuckled lightly, biting down on my lower lip. “Waw,” I uttered, still amazed by this shocking revelation.
“The ones I considered my family, have finally abandoned me in my time of need. How wonderful,” I said, clapping for them.
Deron rolled his eyes at me, while Estelle still remained hidden.
“And Estelle… I thought you loved me?” I questioned, fixing my gaze at her. She couldn’t say a word but turn away from my point.
“What happened to for better or worse? You made so many promises to stand by my side in any situation, even when most of them were caused by you! ”
“Don’t blame my daughter for your misfortune!” Alpha Deron roared out, pointing at me.
“It’s your fault for not throwing that woman out of your home! If you had done exactly what we told you to do, you wouldn’t be in this mess! ” Deron blamed me for my problem, defending his daughter.
I was shocked.
In anger, Deron pointed at the door and ordered me out of his home. “Leave now before you attract unwanted guests. I won’t allow your bad luck to ruin my reputation. Leave!” He yelled.
My heart skipped at this, glancing from both father and daughter.
“Argon, please go. You’re upsetting my father, ” Estelle said, supporting Deron over me.
Waw! I have seen it all.
Nodding my head, I turned around and left the mansion, stepping out to meet my Beta, who was already coming.
He had heard Deron’s roar and wanted to know what had happened.
“What did he say? Alpha, what happened?” He asked, following me back to the car.
But I didn’t answer him. I just didn’t have the mind to voice out the anger and pains rising inside of me.
“Let’s go, now, ” I said, getting into the car.
Jerome didn’t question me any more. From my face expression, I think he got his answer.
.
That night, I found myself strolling around the mansion quietly. My mind was filled with all the hurtful comments I was getting from the people and top business tycoons, who labeled me as useless and unfit.
What pained and scared me more was the bank’s threat. They’ll be coming over tothe company to cease it from mme, then my home.
I couldn’t bear to see the company I’ve worked for, going down in a blink of an eye. And what pained me more was the fact that this company was built by my late father.
“Father, ” I uttered in pain, coming to a stop.
I lifted my gaze to see his room before me. It has been locked since his death.
With sorrow, I unlocked it and stepped inside the room, turning on the light to have a good look of the area.
Memories began to flood into my head, taking me back to those days when my father and I would sit down here on the bed and talk about the future of the business.
“If you can prove your worth, Argon, I will make you the owner of my company. I need to see that zeal in you,” He had said one very night when he called me over to his room.
I was ready to prove to him my abilities and determination. And that was enough to make him happy.
“I pray you succeed, my son, ” His voice echoed in my head.
Now looking at my current situation, I broke down deeply.
I fell on my knees, unable to hold back my tears anymore.
I’m a complete failure.
I have failed my father.
“I am sorry. I let you down, father. I am a useless son. A useless man!” I cried at the foot of the bed, thinking of the future that awaits me.
“I have no one to help me out. I am all alone. Please father, please… Help me before it’s too late. I beg of you. I’ll do anything for a second chance, anything!” I begged to my late father, shattered over my lost.
I am ruined.
.
The next day, I was at the company with Jerome, patiently waiting for the bank to show up.
Some of my workers were already gathering their belongings to leave and also dropping their resignation letters.
They did it with disrespect, showing their detest towards my state.
I sat there helplessly, while my beta tried to pacify my aching heart. He could no longer comfort me like before but only advice me to stay strong.
“This isn’t the end. Even if this place is taken, you can start up another business,” Jerome said, trying to calm my mood.
But it still wasn’t helping.
Just then, the bank arrived, and they were not alone.
The press and a lot of people came over to witness my shame. Even Damien and my former partners showed up to see my fall.
I was watching all these from the window, seeing the number of people that gathered outside just to watch my down fall.
This was clearly the end for me.
With the bank manager calling out to me, I sighed out and came out to the public, hearing the crowds booing at me.
Damien and my Ex-partners spiced it up by insulting me along.
“This is the end for you, Argon. At least, this pack would be free from your nonsense reign, ” One of them had said.
I just didn’t have the strength for a comeback. I was completely weak.
Even my Beta couldn’t fight for me any more. He just held me from the shoulder, showing his support.
The bank manager had pulled out a red tape, saying to me, ” Due to your failure in paying back our loan, we’re going to shut down this company until you get the money. But if you take long, we will sell it out to someone with a good business sense.”
“Maybe someone like me, ” Damien chipped in, so he’d be noticed.
This was his scheme to try and win my people’s heart.
“This Company was built by your late father. I have so much respect for that man, and it will hurt me to see his hardwork going to waste,” He said, faking affection.
As he was talking, a young lady in suit, came running towards the bank manager. She patted him on the shoulder and whispered in his ear. That’s when I saw his eyes turning large and the red tape lowering down.
“Are you sure? ” He asked the lady, who nodded at him.
And suddenly, he faced my way, staring.
“What’s happening?” I asked Jerome, who didn’t have a clue.
“So, if the people of Wolf Crest don’t mind, can I buy this company and keep the late Alpha’s legacy moving?” Damien asked.
But to his greatest surprise…
“There’s no need for that. The debtor has paid the money, ” The bank manager announced, shocking everyone.
“What?!” Damien and my former partners exclaimed in shock.
I was shocked the most.
“Did he say the money has been paid? ” I asked Jerome, who was dumbstruck by this.
“I think that’s what he just said,” Jerome responded, gazing out in disbelief.
This marvelled me. Who paid the money? Who is the person that saved me from this shame?
“My apologies for taking this long. But I hope you have gotten your money?” I heard a familiar female voice from behind the bank manager and his assistant.
When they gave way, my eyes came large at who I saw.
“Brielle?”
