ARGON
“Damien thinks I can’t bring him down? I’m going to surprise that animal.”
While driving back to my pack, I contacted Jerome at once, ordering him to head down to the station and report the accident case to them.
“That fool has dared me. Go over and make a report. I’ll be there soon.”
“Alpha Argon, listen to…”
BEEP! I ended the call without giving Jerome the chance to complete his words. All my mind was on Damien, and placing him in the right position he belongs.
Behind bars!
“Who does he think he is?! First he joined hands with my business partners to fool me, then he almost killed my riders and ruined a whole week job for his own selfish goal, and now he thinks he can take my pack from me?! DAMN YOU, DAMIEN!”
I sped ahead, finally arriving at Wolf crest and driving straight into my pack. I went down to the station to meet Jerome waiting for me outside. He just stood beside his car, instead of going inside the building.
“What is he waiting for?” I uttered in frustration, storming out of my car to meet my beta.
When I got closer to him, I asked, “Have you gone in to make a report? Did you give them those items?”
“Alpha, listen,” He said, placing his hand on my shoulder.
I was expecting a positive feedback from my beta, but what he told me left me astonished.
“They refused to take up the case, believing it was just a mere accident.”
“Mere accident?! Are they insane?!” I roared, not minding where I was.
I was set to storm into the station and talk to the person who made such a statement, but I was grabbed by my beta.
“Alpha, just listen!” Jerome yelled at me, stopping me on my track while glaring straight at me.
“There’s no use. They won’t answer you! After the council’s passed their judgement on you, the authorities no longer recognize you as the Alpha but a simple citizen of the pack. If you go in there to make a scene, you will only get yourself into trouble. And getting you out may be hard, now that you are facing a lot in your finance, ” Jerome pointed out to me.
When he mentioned my state, my heart sank deeply, wiping off the anger that had blinded me.
I forgot about my financial problem. What am I going to do now that my client has ditched me for Damien?
My anger came mellowing down, making a whole man like myself, weak at the thought of my problem.
“Jerome, what am I going to do? I spent so much money on that order. Now that the client has rejected it, who’s going to buy the goods? ” I panicked, running my fingers through my hair.
“I need to raise that money quickly and pay the bank. I need a solution out of this.”
“Alpha, calm down, please. We’re going to find a way out, I’m sure of it. Please, just relax, ” Jerome comforted me, patting my shoulder.
I want to be calm, but I’m finding it hard to do so Everything is falling apart before my eyes. If I don’t work on this issue fast, I’ll be doomed.
.
I pushed Damien’s matter aside and began to focus on my own problem.
Jerome and I were looking for potential buyers, who would buy the goods we had made. But it was hard like rock to get a single client.
Because of this, I began sleeping at the office with my beta, all because we needed to find someone who was willing to work with us. But anyone we came across, be it a company far away from our pack or near, they would suddenly reject it without waiting to hear about our offer.
Everything was falling apart.
Worst, the bank began calling countless times, demanding for their money.
“Your time is almost up, sir. When should we be expecting the money you owe us?”
“Just… Just a few more days, please. I’m working on it. You don’t have to worry, ” I had said, trying to sound calm with the bank. But their consistent calls and demands were eating me up slowly.
A week had passed and we still didn’t get any buyer for our goods.
“Goddess, is this the end for me? Please help me out, just this once,” I had begged to the heavens through a silent prayer.
That’s when my prayers were interrupted by a call from Estelle.
It was Jerome who notified me of my ringing phone, pointing it out on my table.
I sluggishly took the phone to answer Estelle’s call. And like always, she was talking about herself and suggesting we head out shopping.
“I almost forgot. Daddy is celebrating his birthday tomorrow evening. Try to be there, okay? ” She shared, sounding all jovial.
I hummed at her words, promising to attend the celebration. Then she ended the call without noticing the sorrowful tone in my voice.
“Your father’s birthday? How will that save me?” I groaned, tossing the phone back on the table.
Only for my beta to suddenly shriek out, frightening me with his action. “Yes!” He shouted.
“What? ” I asked, staring at him in shock.
“I think there’s a way out of this,” He said, sending sparks of hope into my heart.
Jerome drew closer to my desk and asked me, “Have you thought about speaking to Alpha Deron about your problem? ”
“What? Speak to Alpha Deron?” My heart pounded at this. I have never thought about it, and nor do I want to think of meeting Deron.
“Yes, I think you should attend this party and speak to Alpha Deron. Let him know what you’re facing, so he can help you out.”
“No, no Jerome. Do you know what you’re saying? This is Alpha Deron we’re talking about, Estelle’s father.”
“Yes, I know that.” He nodded.
It was clear my beta wasn’t getting the point, so I had to break it down to him.
“You seem to have forgotten that Alpha Deron is a man of high standard, and he expects me to have a higher ground than him. I know he’s aware of my removal of power, but he still feels my company is standing strong. He thinks a man like myself should still have a high standard more than his.”
Jerome stared, slowly getting the point.
“How will he react when he sees me begging him to buy some goods he doesn’t need, all because I’m broke? ” I asked Jerome, waiting for his response.
But still, my beta kept advising that I meet with Alpha Deron and ask him for help.
“Even though he won’t buy the goods from you, at least he can help you with the money to pay the bank. You’ll never know unless you try, ” Jerome said, showing his concern for me.
I was bothered and also ashamed to meet with Deron. That man may be my girlfriend’s father, but he is still a man who values reputation like crazy.
But with no other option, I decided to do as my beta had suggested.
“Okay, I’ll attend his birthday tomorrow.”
“Good. Take out any negative thoughts,” Jerome advised, patting my shoulder again. “I’m sure he’ll answer you.”
“Yeah, I hope so,” I said faintly.
After being away from home for long and finally having a plan to solve my problem, Jerome and I decided to head back to the mansion.
We arrived very late, at around eleven in the night, meeting the mansion quiet.
I stepped inside while Jerome went to park the car properly.
I didn’t go upstairs to my room just yet, but made my way through the pathway at the right, heading for Brielle’s room.
When I got there, I met the door slightly open. It made it easy for me to push it open slowly, just to meet Brielle and Tania asleep.
Both ladies laid on the bed sleeping soundly.
It was perfect for me.
Carefully, I tiptoed into the room, revealing two small shopping bags in my hold. I had gotten Jerome to stop at a shop while coming, just to get Brielle and Tania the things I promised them some days back.
I would have easily gotten away with it by acting like one that forgot, but my mind hasn’t been at peace since the day I made that promise.
I got the dress Tania wanted and something nice for Brielle. Both bags I placed close to the mirror, silently.
“This should do,” I whispered, staring at the bag meant for Brielle, with a curve across my lips.
The moment I lifted my head to the mirror, I was engulfed my fear by what I saw.
In the mirror, I saw Brielle sitting up and staring at me in the dark!
My whole body quivered, sending me turning around with speed to face her.
But when I looked, Brielle was still asleep in her position!
“What… What was that?” I panted in fear, looking back at the mirror again. This time, her reflection showed her sleeping in the same position.
“I think I’m losing it. I need to get some sleep,” I decided, leaving the room.
.
The following day, as agreed, I went over to Estelle’s home to celebrate her father’s birthday. It was around seven in the evening that I showed up, and Alpha Deron’s home was filled with wealthy business partners of his.
The presence of this people made me feel like a commoner in their midst. I watched how they talked about the progress of their business, laughing and cackling with delight.
All I could do was hum and nod, watching them.
“Baby, what’s wrong with you?” Estelle had asked me when she noticed how odd I was behaving.
“You’re not looking happy. Is something wrong?” She asked, taking hold of my hand.
I didn’t know how to tell Estelle about my problem. I didn’t want her blaming Brielle and causing a scene here. Instead, I said to her, “I need to speak with your father alone, but it seems he’s too busy.”
“Too busy for his future son in law? You’re funny,” She chuckled, grabbing my arm close.
“You’re acting like you’re just seeing my father for the first time. Quit being a baby, ” she teased, taking me to see Deron.
As we drew closer to where he stood with his friends, my heart beat increased with speed, causing me to panic within.
“How will I start this conversation? How will I tell him that I need his help? ” I was nervous.
When we got closer to him, Estelle took hold of her father’s hand in front of his friends and said openly, “Daddy, you haven’t been giving Argon your attention since he arrived. Your son needs to speak with you.”
My heart skipped at the way she said it. She didn’t have to publicize it for all of them to hear!
Damn!
“Really? But Argon… I thought you didn’t feel like talking to anyone?” Alpha Deron asked, staring at me with concern in his gaze.
His eyes were beginning to calm my fear, making me feel a bit relaxed.
“I have been trying to speak with you, but you seemed to be lost whenever I call you.”
“I… I’m sorry, ” I apologized to him, giving a smile.
Feeling good, Deron chuckled out and came closer to me, giving me a big hug.
“You can be amusing sometimes, Argon. I can’t believe you assumed that,” He chortled.
Seeing how calm and jovial Deron was, I immediately used that opportunity to speak up.
“Can we talk privately? There’s something I want to speak to you about,” I requested, speaking almost softly.
Deron noticed how I had drawn near just to make that request. It immediatrly dimmed his smiles, leaving him staring with a hum through his lips.
“Okay, come with me, ” He said, leading the way.
There was a sudden heat that overwhelmed my body when Deron said that, ask watched him walk ahead.
I was beginning to shake, wondering what he would think of me when I tell him about my bankruptcy.
It’s too late now. I have no choice but to tell him and see his reaction.
