ARGON
“A toast to a successful mission, ” I raised, celebrating with my beta and all the staffs.
We all had a glass in our hands to celebrate the success of the completed order. It wasn’t easy, but we made it.
The trucks had already moved out with the goods three hours ago, and I already contacted my client about it, telling him to expect it anytime soon.
“You all get a raise for your hard work, ” I said, cheering my workers.
They all cheered out in joy, clinging their glasses and drinking with merry.
I was the most happiest among them. An order I thought I couldn’t achieve within a week, was done before the last day. And my client has promised to send me the payment once the trucks arrived.
And I couldn’t wait for his call to come in.
“Jerome, contact our riders and find out if they have gotten to the factory.”
“Alpha, relax. I believe the client promised to reach you when they arrive. Let’s be patient. I’m sure they’re close to their destination,” Jerome said, comforting and reminding me of the client’s words.
I nodded with a smile across my face, sipping out of my drink. Lowering my glass down, I asked Jerome while we both walked away from the celebration ground, “Can you help me out in picking something nice for Brielle? Maybe something she likes?”
“What? Did she ask you to get her something?” He asked, looking surprised.
I swayed my head and told him my plan. “I want to get her a nice gift, better than flowers. But I don’t know what to bring.”
“What happened to the green roses? Did she complain about it?” He asked, and I found myself flashing to all of her words whenever I brought the green roses to her.
“No, she doesn’t hate it.”
“Okay, that’s good.”
“But she loves to use it to make fun of me.”
“Oh, ” Jerome uttered, sounding like one who expected such from Brielle.
“She called me a farmer and asked about the cows,” I shared with my beta.
All of a sudden, Jerome came bursting out in laughter, unable to control it. “I’m sorry, Alpha. I wasn’t expecting to hear that.”
I smirked, chuckling at him. Anyone would laugh at that. It’s indeed funny.
“I don’t know what you can get for her. Do you have any clue on what she likes? Maybe something you’ve given her before in the past?” Jerome asked.
But what do I know? I’ve never gifted Brielle anything before. I don’t know what she likes, aside from the color green.
“I really don’t know.”
“Well, I think that’s something we have to…”
RING! RING!! My phone rang out, interrupting mine and Jerome’s conversation.
I had to tell Jerome to wait so I could see who was calling. When I checked, I saw the client’s name on my screen.
“He’s calling!” I alerted, Jerome, getting thrilled by this.
“Good. That means the trucks have arrived,” Jerome said, smiling at this.
When I answered the call to speak with my client…
“Where are the goods you promised, Argon?” My client questioned, causing my body to vibrate in an instant.
“What? Haven’t they arrived yet? ” I asked, looking at Jerome, who also became bothered, pulling his phone out of his pocket to reach the riders.
“No. I have been waiting for long and I haven’t seen any trucks.”
“Don’t worry, sir. They are on their way. I’m sure they are almost close to your factory. Please, let me contact them now. I’ll call you back, ” I said, excusing myself.
The client ended the call immediately.
Quickly, I faced Jerome. “Reach out to them. They should be close by now,” I panicked.
Jerome contacted the riders, but their line wasn’t going through. We kept on calling for the next ten minutes, until one of the riders finally picked up.
“Sir.”
“What the hell?! What’s taking you guys so long?” I questioned, almost bursting out in rage.
That’s when my whole world came crumbling in seconds.
The trucks… The tyres were punctured, leaving the trucks stuck in-between Wolf Crest and Silver highway!
“What?! And you didn’t even bother to call back?!” I roared, feeling my heart pounding over this report.
The rider explained that they lost signal and tried to get help, until we were able to reach out to them.
“You have to send in two trucks to carry the goods, sir. These trucks won’t be able to move, and we are in a bad state to do anything,” The rider said, sounding troubled.
I couldn’t understand what he meant by that. All I know is that my client’s goods needs to be delivered on tile or I’m going to lose.
“Damn it! ” I groaned, ending the call.
“We have to move, quickly. The tyres were punctured on their way,” I shared with Jerome, racing back to the party ground to get two of our workers, who where also riders.
We also got some the workers to follow is so they would help in the loading.
They followed Jerome amd I to get two of the trucks on ground, driving out from the premises in a hurry.
Jerome and I went in my car, driving fast to reach the point the trucks had stopped.
This was three in the afternoon, and it takes an hour to get to Silver highway. But I wasn’t going to give up yet.
After what felt like an eternity, we finally arrived at Silver highway. But what we saw left us shocked.
The trucks didn’t just get punctured, but had a crash!
“Goddess! What happened here?” Jerome uttered in shock, as I carefully parked the car aside, along with the two trucks that came with us.
We stepped out of the car and rushed down to meet our riders who were waiting. They were injured from the incident, leaping towards us.
“What happened? How did all these happen?” I questioned, still stunned by this sudden sight.
“I thought you said the tyres were punctured?” Jerome questioned them.
The riders confirmed that it was punctured, showing us a wooden nail stuck under the tyre of one of the truck.
“I lost control and ended up clashing into the other truck. But thanks to the goddess, we were able to park safely,” The riders shared.
I couldn’t believe this. I went over to the punctured tyre and pulled out the wooden nail that had caused this accident.
Looking at it, I felt… this wasn’t ordinary. “Why was this on the road?” I suspected, looking at it.
But there was no time for all these. We had to get the goods loaded into the new trucks and also send the riders to the hospital.
Dropping the nail down, I ordered my workers to start loading.
“There’s no time, ” I said.
Jerome and I joined the workers after getting the two injured riders to settle in our car to rest.
As we were off loading and reloading the goods, the client was calling to know where the trucks were.
“We are coming. There was an issue on the way, but I’m working on it,” I said, trying to calm my client. But he was beginning to lose his patience, giving me two hours to deliver the goods.
“If you don’t deliver within two hours, then that’s the end of our deal.”
“What? You can’t be serious,” I was stunned by his words. He can’t possibly be serious.
“You have two hours. Once that time is up, it’s goodbye.”
“Wait…”
BEEP! He ended the call on me.
My heart sank at my clients decision. He’s furious! I can’t miss this opportunity. I have spent so much money just to get these goods ready.
Out of desperation, I joined my workers in tossing the goods into the truck with speed. They couldn’t understand why I was being so impatient, but Jerome understood me.
In the next thirty minutes, we were done.
Instead of my riders getting into the truck, I told them to head back with my car while Jerome and I stepped into the trucks, driving the goods down its our destination, by ourselves.
“And hour plus left. I need to be fast, ” I panicked, taking multiple looks at my watch.
We drove without stopping or answering any calls, until…
“We’re here!”
We arrived at my clients factory a minute late from the given time, parking the trucks close to the factory house.
Jerome and I came out, feeling so exhausted, as we were met by my client and his workers, who gazed at us with disgust.
We were sweating, so I could understand why they gazed at us that way.
Looking at my client, who stood there staring at me, I smiled and walked up to him, apologizing for the lateness.
He didn’t allow me to talk much but invited me to his office. I followed him from behind, leaving Jerome with the trucks.
When I stepped into my client’s office, I began to explain what had happened.
“There was an accident with the two trucks carrying the goods. I had to journey down to help out, ” I explained to him.
But what my client said, surprised me.
“So? Look at the time! I told you two hours, but you arrived a minute late! ” He yelled at me.
My body shivered at his tone, as he called my service useless and unwanted.
“You… You can’t say that. I told you the trucks had an accident on the way and…”
“I am not going to buy your lies, Argon! I gave you a chance to prove yourself to me, but you blew it! I will not take those goods. Take it back! The deal is over!”
“What?!” I exclaimed in daze.
He can’t be serious.
Take the goods back?
