ARGON
I stood there, trembling at Brielle’s sudden action. This wasn’t the plan. Why is she doing the opposite?
WHY?!
“My councils, I have heard about marriage being the most sweetest experience in one’s life, but I have never come across a marriage as hellish as mine, ” Brielle said, adding more fear to my heart.
“Alpha, she’s telling them what happened. What now?” Jerome whispered to me, expecting me to take an action.
But I was completely frozen to think of anything at that point. I was stuck in a big well of horror.
“As hellish as yours?”
“Please, tell us everything.” The councils said, pushing Brielle to speak up.
When I saw this, I immediately chipped in. “What are you saying, my love? What has come over you?”
“Love?” Brielle uttered that particular word, lifting her brow at me in surprise. And that was enough to show the council that I’ve been unjust to her.
“Did you just call me your love, Argon?” She smiled, letting out a scoff.
“Waw, this will be the first time you’d ever call me that. What happened to Wretch? Or Useless, Wolfless, Orphan? What happened to all those names? ” She questioned, getting serious.
Her eyes read rage, showing she was not here to side with me, but put me in my place for all I had done.
“You only remember to use that word when people are around us. You have never one day looked at me with love. All these years, since the day we got married, you have only seen me as a burden in your life. You always wanted to inflict pains in my heart, just because your father made me your Luna and not Estelle!” She raised her voice, glaring at me.
“Despite all these, I kept performing my role as your wife in public and your punching bag in secret. I kept doing all these, just to please you. But after all these suffering, what did you do to me, Argon? What did you do?!”
Her voice roaring to the ceiling, sending shivers down my spine. I was shaking in my spot, unable to think of anything but stare at her.
My heart couldn’t stop pounding. I felt it was going to burst out of my chest!
Her eyes came welling with tears, as she sniveled to me. “It was still fine when you and Estelle made me your mat to trend on, but did you have to harm the little one that didn’t know anything about this world?”
“Little one? ”
“What are you talking about, Luna?” The councils asked.
There was a heavy skip in my heart when she mentioned little one, taking my mind to the unborn child!
No! Is she going to tell them what happened?
“Brielle, don’t! Don’t!” I begged within, hoping she’d see it in my eyes. But her rage was stronger than my plea.
“Yes, little one. I was… expecting Alpha Argon’s first child. And on the night of our anniversary…” She began to cry, facing the councils.
Their eyes became large, waiting to hear everything.
“On that night, both Argon and Estelle… They killed my baby.”
“WHAT?!” They all got to their feet at once, looking shocked.
I was engulfed with shock.
Brielle has ruined me. She told them what happened.
“An Alpha killing his own blood? In our land! How barbaric!”
“A terrible crime in our pack!!”
“You monster! And you were the one telling us some time back that you really want to be a father. Is it that same hand you demonstrated how you’ll carry your baby, you used in killing your child?!”
I was stuck. Really! Really!! Stuck.
“It’s… It’s not what you think. I didn’t kill my baby. She … She slipped and…”
“SHUT UP!!” They roared, silencing me.
My whole body shivered, trembling before them.
“This is bad, this is bad!!” I panicked within.
“Councils, listen. My Alpha isn’t like that. He is a good man.”
“Be quiet, Beta. We are talking to him, not you!” They silenced Jerome on his track, leaving him shun.
I was overwhelmed with the flames of karma. I was burning in my spot. My eyes came lifting to look at Brielle. She kept on crying, ignoring my presence.
“I thought she loved me. She promised to do as I wished. How could she stab me like this? How could she?!”
My blood came boiling, just looking at Brielle sobbing in her stand. “She don’t know what she has done. She will regret this once they leave.”
“Like that wasn’t enough…” Brielle resumed at once.
“She still has more to share? ” I gazed in horror, rubbing my back neck in fear.
“The divorce paper… I didn’t suggest that. Argon chose to divorce me after forcing me back home from the hospital. He didn’t allow me to get treated properly. He brought it before me and ordered me to sign and leave his life for good.”
Directing her eyes at me, she said, “But I didn’t. I refused to sign the papers.”
“Good! Because you are not leaving this place. You are the Luna of this pack as the late Alpha had said. No one will take your place. No one!”
“Not even that naked model that calls herself Estelle, will step her foot into our pack as our Luna.”
“You are the only one we recognize, Brielle. You did well by turning down the papers. Let’s see how this man takes you out when we’re around.” They all backed Brielle, glaring at me with detest.
This was beginning to terrify me. If Brielle doesn’t leave, Estelle and I can never be together. The councils will ruin our plans.
But suddenly…
“No, I will still sign the papers, but not now, ” Brielle said, stunning the councils who didn’t find her idea appealing.
“The only reason I am still here is because of my late father in law. The one who stood as a father figure when I had no family. He had wished for his son to have a happy life, and that’s what I’ll give to him.”
” I do not wish to remain in a marriage where my Alpha sees me as worthless. A marriage filled with pains and sorrows. I refuse to remain in such.”
Facing my point, she said, “Argon, I asked for three months to make you and your lover happy, but from the way you’ve been taking advantage of my innocence in these few days, it’s crystal clear that you don’t want it. You are only looking for ways to break me completely.”
My body shivered at her words. She’s only adding more spice to the situation for me.
“No problem then. I will no longer wait for three months. You and Estelle should pick your date and tell me as soon as possible. Once you’re both married, I can leave your life for good.”
Her hands raised to show her acceptance to my relationship with Estelle, but desperation to leave.
“The haste is fine, I can understand you love birds, but all I ask is that you and Estelle don’t interfere in my plans. That’s all I ask from you. Leave me to fulfil my late father in law’s wish in peace,” She stamped strongly, letting out a sigh.
I was still in shock from all these. I never expected a whole weak Brielle to do this to me. Has her love for me faded at last that she seeks my downfall?
How come?
She faced the councils and requested that they honor this wish of hers. Though they were upset about it, but to show their support, they agreed.
“Thank you. May I take my leave? I don’t feel so good?”
“Of course, Luna. Go in and rest.”
“You have suffered enough. Let us handle the rest.”
“Thank you, ” She bowed, exiting the room without glancing my way one bit.
As soon as she was gone, the main fire came pouring on me.
“And he tried to lie about the divorce, blaming that innocent woman!”
“That means he lied about her illness during the party. All his words are filled with lies!”
“A shameful act from an Alpha. To look at your face annoys me to the core.”
“I feel like hitting you right now! How could you kill your own unborn baby?!”
They rained insults on me, calling me all sort of horrible names. When I tried to speak, they’d yell at me to stay shut.
“Don’t you dare speak to us while we’re talking, you selfish man!” They roared.
I had to lower my head down, struggling not to look at them. When my eyes trailed its way to the door, I was engulfed with shame on seeing my servants watching this humiliation.
Damn it! They are watching!
I was so worried about the end result of this. I just wanted it to end.
“Your forefathers have never done such rubbish in their time. In fact, they presented themselves in a way the council members would worship them like gods.”
“Your own reign is filled with nothing but nonsense! You don’t deserve the position you’re in. You don’t!”
My heart kept racing at their roars, leaving me scared of my future.
“My councils, please hear me out. I… I am sorry for everything that…”
“Did he say he’s sorry? ”
They laughed out in mockery, making me look like a fool before them.
“Argon, your sorry is meaningless at this point. You have lost that right to apologize to us when you brutally attacked Brielle and killed her baby.”
“Your own Father’s grandchild, you killed it with your own hands. Do you think you’ll get our forgiveness after hearing that?”
“And the woman you’re fighting to make your Queen… What makes you think she’ll give you an heir? A woman of loose character.”
“Her own father has no shame when he sees his daughter showing off her body like a whore.”
“It’s that kind of woman you want to make Wolf Crest’s Luna? Disgusting!”
They all threw their harsh words at me, insulting Estelle and I. But she’s not here to receive it. I’m the one taking the hit.
“Oh, may the goddess bless that soul called Brielle. How has she been coping with you all these years?”
“The pains, torture… Even after killing her baby, she still stayed to fulfill our late Alpha’s last wish for you, taking all your nonsense. And you still want to leave an angel like her for that harlot?”
“Not even that. He thought he could just lie against Brielle, forgetting that everyone knows how innocent and Softheartered she is. A bad name, that’s what you’re giving to us!”
They have been talking and talking, while I’ve been soaking and drowning in their insults.
Even Jerome couldn’t lift his head like before. He had them down shivering next to me.
That’s when the councils finalized their decision on the case.
“From now on, Alpha Argon, you will no longer be called the Alpha of Wolf crest pack. You are hereby removed from power!”
“What?!” I exclaimed in shock.
My servants gasped out, mumbling over this.
“You’re removing me from power? You… You can’t do this to me. I’m the late Alpha’s son. I can’t be removed, ” I panicked.
Jerome immediately stepped forward and fell on his knees, begging on my behalf.
“Please, forgive my Alpha. Have mercy on him. Please, show him mercy.”
“Don’t you dare call him an Alpha because he has lost that title already. He will not be seen as this packs Alpha anymore!”
I was breathing heavily on hearing this. They can’t do this to me. What about my reputation? What will I do? My people… They’ll laugh at me.
“Even before he was made the ruler, the pack has been doing fine without him. And as the councils, we can handle the pack until we find a fitted Alpha to rule us.”
“One with good morals and respect for his significant other.”
They smirked, making their judgement finalized.
This was nothing but a nightmare in reality to me. I can’t be removed. I just can’t.
Done with their judgement, the councils decided to leave and prepare themselves to find a new Alpha.
When I saw this, my ego came falling flat.
“PLEASE! ” I cried out, falling on my knees next to Jerome.
“Please, don’t remove me from my throne. I will do anything to make amends for my sins. Just have mercy upon me.”
“Oh, so you can beg?”
“How interesting.”
They laughed at my submission.
Lowering my head down to the cold tiles and accepting my fault, I pleaded once again, requesting for a second chance.
The councils came all silent, mumbling something.
“Please, one last chance,” I begged, thinking about my reputation and all that would happen if ears hear this.
Once they were done, they said, ” Your position will only be restored on one condition.”
“Please tell me.” I lifted my head in desperation, still on my knees.
“On the day of your barbaric wedding to that woman, Brielle will tell us if you’re fit to remain the Alpha or not.”
“What? Brielle?”
This was beyond what I expected. My future now lies in her hands?
“Don’t think we’re making you the Alpha again. Oh no! Our words still stand. You have been removed, but Brielle will tell us on your wedding day, if we should give it back to you or find a better Alpha.”
“She’s the one you tortured and gave a horrible life. Her final say will be ours.”
“After all, she will be leaving you as soon as you’re married. So, if she says no, we take you out. That’s that. Good luck, Argon.”
They walked out of my sight, leaving me to swim in my downfall.
“Brielle? It all depends on her?”
She now holds the key to my world. How did I allow this to get to this point? Where did I go wrong?
