Georgia looked distressed. “Callen, that’s not what I meant. I’m just really worried about our current situation!”
“Worried?” Callen scoffed. “If worrying solved problems, what would be the point of us tech experts? Anyway, I can’t fix this.”
Callen was being utterly unsympathetic, showing no regard for Georgia’s feelings.
His words were harsh, especially hurtful to an inexperienced young woman like Georgia.
“Do you know anyone who might be able to help?” Georgia asked, clinging to a glimmer of hope.
“No!” Callen replied firmly, not even bothering to look at Georgia as he lit another cigarette.
“Georgia! Look at the mess you’ve made,” Jamie chimed in, fanning the flames. “Are you trying to ruin the company’s future? Did you offend someone? Our company was fine before, never had issues like this. But as soon as you take charge, we have this disaster. It’s so troublesome. And to think I was just singing your praises to Grandma. How am I supposed to explain this to her in the hall now?”
Jamie’s words sparked a flurry of whispered discussions among the others.
Many seemed to agree with Jamie. After all, the company had never faced such a crisis before. For this to happen so soon after Georgia took over did make people wonder if she had crossed someone.
Georgia gave Jamie a cold look. “I bet you’re behind this. Are you jealous of me?”
“What?” Jamie feigned surprise. “Did everyone hear that? She’s accusing me! Who do you think I am, Georgia? Would I ever do something to harm our family’s company? Sure, I admit I wasn’t thrilled about you taking over, and yes, I was envious. But when I saw how well you were managing things, I even praised you to Grandma! I never imagined you’d stoop so low as to accuse family!”
More people in the company started muttering and pointing fingers at Georgia. Some even openly mocked her, “How could Ms. Adams say such a thing? Blaming Mr. Adams is just absurd.”
“Some people just lose it when things go wrong. They’ll say and do anything!”
Georgia’s heart sank. She was at a complete loss.
Meanwhile, Jamie was barely concealing a smug smile as he watched Georgia’s expression crumble.
It seemed Jamie had gained the upper hand and was on the verge of a complete victory over Georgia.
He thought to himself. “Georgia, you’re still too green to play this game with me.”
“Don’t panic,” Kayden suddenly whispered in Georgia’s ear as he grasped her hand.
Georgia was still fuming, her mind in chaos. But strangely, Kayden’s voice had a calming effect on her, like a lifeline in a storm.
“Let me give it a try,” Kayden said, stepping to the front of the crowd.
“Kayden!” Georgia snapped back to reality at his words. She gripped his hand tightly and exclaimed, “What are you doing? Do you even know anything about computers? Don’t try to be a hero!”
Kayden had a habit of showing off at times like this. It was one thing in the past, but this was an emergency. Did he think this was some kind of game?
“You?” Callen adjusted his glasses, looking Kayden up and down. After taking in Kayden’s appearance, he said condescendingly, “Not to brag, but if I can’t do it, no one in the entire Southwest region can. Plus, they’ve already stolen our IP – that’s like having control over our company’s lifeline. If you mess around, you’ll only make it easier for them to crack our codes.”
Kayden replied calmly, “Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean others can’t. It’s not good to generalize like that, is it?”
“Oh?” Callen took another drag on his cigarette. “You sound pretty confident.”
Kayden nodded slightly. “If I wasn’t confident, I wouldn’t have volunteered. I never do anything unless I’m 100% sure I can succeed.”
“Huh!” Callen’s face darkened. He narrowed his eyes at Kayden. “Well then, let’s see if you’ve got what it takes.”
With that, he stood up from his chair and gestured for Kayden to take his place.
Instead of sitting down immediately, Kayden said to Callen, “If I manage to crack this hacker’s technique, I want you to stop giving my wife a hard time at the company. And I want you to apologize for how you just spoke to her.”
“Kayden!” Georgia was sweating for Kayden. But seeing his confident demeanor, she found herself starting to believe in him.
“Huh, so this is Ms. Adams’s idiot husband! No wonder he looked familiar,” someone in the crowd muttered.
“Isn’t he the one who came to practice martial arts at our company a while back? Fell from the roof, didn’t he? Maybe that fall scrambled his brains,” another chimed in.
“Scrambled? He was already an idiot. How could it get worse? If he wasn’t, would he dare to take on this task?”
“True. And who does he think Callen is? Top five in tech in Hiphia, on par with the best in the field.”
“…”
Callen chuckled. “Fine. Not only will I apologize, but if you can crack this hacker’s technique, I’ll kneel before you and call you ‘Master’ from now on.”
Strictly speaking, Callen wasn’t qualified to be Kayden’s disciple – he was too old, his potential long exhausted. But with so many people watching, Kayden didn’t want to embarrass him.
“Well, I’ll let him have this win,” Kayden thought. “Considering his loyalty to the company.”
So he nodded and said, “Alright, it’s a deal!”
With that, Kayden sat down and began typing on the keyboard.
In truth, Kayden didn’t have extensive internet technology skills. He had learned from one of his subordinates in the military. This was the age of the internet and technology, and the military had to keep up with the times, especially to guard against high-tech invasions from enemies.
So they had developed these defense techniques at the border, combining human effort with high-tech solutions.
His subordinate was probably one of the top experts in the internet field globally.
After all, this man was the one responsible for creating Seclela’s firewall.
Although this current problem was trivial compared to what Kayden used to face, it was Georgia’s problem. And anything related to his wife was worth his effort!
So he didn’t mind stepping in to help Georgia solve this issue!
