As Kayden let go of her hand, Lacey felt as if she’d lost something precious. Her heart sank.
“You’re safe now,” Kayden said nonchalantly.
Lacey felt a bit dejected. “Thank you,” she replied.
Kayden waved it off. “No need to thank me. I’ll visit your father personally another day.”
With that, Kayden turned and walked away. Watching his retreating figure, Lacey smacked her forehead. “Oh no, what am I doing? He doesn’t even know my address!”
Realizing this, she called out, “Hey, I haven’t told you…”
But before she could finish, she saw Kayden get into a taxi.
Night had fallen. Leah was watching TV with a facial mask on, snacking endlessly.
Since returning from the Fcon Hotel, Georgia hadn’t gone to the office, having lost all enthusiasm for work. She sat silently on the sofa, unconsciously checking the time. It was already 8 PM.
She glanced at the door, still lifeless. Could it be that Kayden really wasn’t coming back?
Who was that woman who came looking for him at the complex? Where had she taken him?
And what about Sariah? Would he go straight to her after meeting that woman?
God, was Kayden truly such a scoundrel? She had stood by him for three whole years. Had she protected a playboy all this time? Not only had her reputation suffered, but she’d ended up with someone like this. She felt on the verge of a breakdown.
These thoughts had consumed Georgia’s mind since Kayden left.
“Knock knock knock!” Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
“Kayden!” Georgia stood up eagerly and walked towards the door. It must be Kayden returning at this hour. Georgia knew he wouldn’t spend the night with that woman, no matter how beautiful she was.
However, she didn’t plan to let him off easily. She wanted Kayden to know she wasn’t to be trifled with.
With this in mind, she put on a stern face and opened the door. A waft of perfume greeted her.
Standing outside was Scarlett, who seemed to have just returned from playing cards with friends. She was humming a tune, wearing a very short skirt that showed off her legs.
It had to be said, Scarlett was quite attractive herself. Although in her forties, she took great care of herself and looked like she was in her late twenties. It was no wonder she had given birth to a beauty like Georgia.
Seeing Georgia, she asked, “Georgia, how does my new hairstyle look today?”
As she spoke, Scarlett tilted her head, showing off her curls to her daughter.
Georgia’s expression froze. She had thought it was Kayden returning, but it turned out to be Scarlett.
“It looks nice,” she said perfunctorily.
Scarlett smiled. “I think this hairstyle goes well with this ring on my hand! The young man who did my hair, probably in his twenties, even thought I was a young girl.”
As she spoke, Scarlett deliberately raised her hand, showing off the blood diamond ring Jerome had given her.
“A Blood Diamond Ring!” Georgia didn’t look, but Leah, still wearing her facial mask, noticed it.
“Mom, is that real?” Leah asked curiously.
Scarlett replied, “Of course it’s real! Old Mr. Stevens from Treasure Jewelry Store gave it to me!”
“Old Mr. Stevens?” Georgia, who had been silent, asked, “Do you mean Hiphia’s jewelry tycoon, Jerome Stevens?”
“Yes!” Scarlett said. “It was the day Rosa came to our house. That good-for-nothing even pretended to make a phone call! Shortly after you left, Old Mr. Stevens arrived. Rosa was so envious at the time.”
Georgia quickly recalled the day Kayden made that phone call. He had indeed called Jerome. Could the person Kayden claimed to have saved be Jerome? Georgia touched the Double Phoenix Plays with Dragon Pearl necklace around her neck.
“Hmph!” Just thinking about Kayden, Scarlett spoke with disdain. “That good-for-nothing acted so convincingly. If it weren’t for Tony also having the surname Scott, I might have almost believed he knew Old Mr. Stevens. Georgia, I think you should divorce that good-for-nothing soon and marry Tony instead. Then I could hold my head high in front of everyone. Now, there are still people saying things like, ‘My daughter has done well for herself, but her husband is an idiot.'”
Hearing Scarlett’s words, Georgia set aside her suspicions. How could Kayden possibly have connections with someone like Jerome? She was overthinking, attributing too much greatness to Kayden.
“Mom, let me try it on! I heard it’s worth 20 million. Why don’t we sell it?” Leah snatched the Blood Diamond Ring from Scarlett.
“Oh my goodness!” Scarlett exclaimed. “Be careful, my dear. This is my baby!”
“Come on! Let’s sell it and buy a big house to live in,” Leah said carelessly.
“No way! It matches my style so well. How could I sell it?”
Just then, the door, which hadn’t been closed, opened and Kayden walked in.
As soon as Kayden returned, Scarlett’s cheerful expression instantly darkened. As if seeing her nemesis, she said, “Well, well, you good-for-nothing actually come back? I thought you’d died out there.”
As she spoke, Scarlett put on the ring.
Kayden noticed the ring and asked, “Isn’t that the ring I asked Jerome to send over?”
“You?” Scarlett sat down on the sofa, flaunting her hand. “You’re really shameless! This was clearly sent by Old Mr. Stevens at Tony’s request. What does it have to do with you?”
Kayden was momentarily speechless, but it didn’t matter. This was Scarlett’s typical behavior. She was always sharp-tongued and harsh, though her love for Georgia was undeniable.
He couldn’t be bothered to explain anything to Scarlett. Georgia was the most important.
“Georgia! Come out for a moment. I need to talk to you.” Kayden planned to go to the Fcon Hotel. He wanted to explain everything clearly to Georgia. When he returned from the hotel earlier, Georgia had been angry.
Georgia snorted and turned to go into her room.
Seeing this, Leah walked up to Kayden and whispered, “My sister found out about you looking at that woman’s breasts today, and I also told her about the woman who gave you a hotel key card the other night. She’s really angry now.”
“What? Looking at whose breasts?” Kayden was confused.
Leah snorted. “Stop pretending. The busty woman waiting for you in the complex this afternoon.”
