Chapter 39 The Woman Who Came Uninvited!

Leah hadn’t recovered from the strange scene she had just witnessed.
It wasn’t until the car had driven far away that she choked up a bit and asked Kayden, “Was that real? They weren’t just pretending for you, were they?”
Kayden remained silent, his face as cold as ever.
Leah pursed her lips and tried again, “You know martial arts, right? Can you teach me? I think it’s really cool.”
Leah kept pestering him with questions all the way back home, but Kayden didn’t answer a single one. He knew that indulging her curiosity would lead to an endless barrage of questions.
As they reached the apartment building, a woman’s voice called out, “Mr. Scott.”
Both Kayden and Leah stopped in their tracks. From the shadows emerged a tall, fair-skinned, beautiful woman.
The woman had long hair draped over her shoulders and wore a professional office outfit, exposing her long, sexy legs. Kayden recognized her immediately; she was the snobbish manager from the car dealership he and Georgia had encountered earlier in the day.
“Mr. Scott, may I have a word with you in private?” The woman glanced at Leah as she spoke.
Kayden frowned, intending to refuse. But before he could, Leah quickly said, “You two go ahead. I’ll head upstairs.”
With that, Leah turned and walked away.
The woman hesitated before handing Kayden a room key card. “Mr. Scott, I’m deeply sorry for what happened today. Please don’t report me to my boss. I’ll be waiting for you.”
After the incident with Kayden, she had been on edge the entire day. With a client as important as Kayden, a single complaint from him could get her fired.
She had worked hard, spending time with many men to secure this position. If she were to lose it just like that, she would deeply regret it. After much contemplation, she came up with a way to resolve the issue.
Kayden glanced at the room key and shook his head. Seeing this, the woman quickly bent forward and said, “I promise I won’t disappoint you.”
“Leave,” Kayden said coldly, turning to head upstairs.
As soon as he entered the stairwell, Leah jumped out and snatched the key card from his hand. “Shit! I can’t believe you know that kind of flirty woman. And she brought the key card right to our home! You’ve barely regained some of your memories, and you’re already playing around? Seriously?”
“Are you going to see her?” Leah asked, hiding the key card behind her back.
Kayden frowned. He had no intention of going.
Leah huffed, “I’ll tell my sister if you go.”
Kayden ignored her and continued upstairs. Once home, Leah immediately started recounting the day’s events to Georgia, who was sitting on the sofa looking glum.
Georgia, however, didn’t take Leah’s words seriously, letting them go in one ear and out the other.
Kayden had just entered his room when his phone rang. Seeing the number, he sighed in relief; he had been waiting for this call for days.
“Defender, the battle was victorious. Out of 800, 000 enemies, 500, 000 have been eliminated and the remaining 300, 000 have escaped. Please punish me for not wiping them out completely,” reported Greedy Wolf, aware that such results didn’t meet the Defender of the South’s usual standards.
Kayden didn’t blame him. “How did Flood die?” he asked coldly.
Flood’s death still haunted him. The Zodiac Generals were not just subordinates but trusted buddies who had fought alongside him. He couldn’t accept one of them dying without knowing why.
If it hadn’t been for the urgency of the battle that day, he would have had to find out what happened personally.
Greedy Wolf quickly responded, “After you went missing, the Zodiac Generals searched everywhere for you. Six months later, we found General Flood’s body at the Western Frontier. There were no external injuries, but his internal organs were shattered, as if by a powerful internal energy attack.”
Flood had his internal organs shattered by someone using internal energy. To achieve such an effect, that person’s internal energy must be extremely profound and terrifying. The Zodiac Generals were top-tier fighters, and only a handful of people worldwide could defeat them.
“We found something at the scene that might be related to Flood’s death,” Greedy Wolf added.
“Send it to me,” Kayden ordered, ending the call. Whoever had killed Flood would pay dearly for it. He couldn’t allow the murderer who killed his buddy to live.
Soon, Greedy Wolf sent over a photo of a white handkerchief with a totem embroidered on it. The totem depicted a mythical creature resembling Grievance, the second son of the dragon, which had a dragon’s head and a leopard’s body. Legend said the dragon had nine sons, each born to different animals.
Grievance appeared to be spitting a fireball from its mouth.
After studying the image, Kayden fell silent and realized something. The presence of the Grievance suggested that Flood’s death had been orchestrated by someone within the country since such creatures only existed in Seclela’s mythology. The motive behind the killing remained unclear.
The next morning, Georgia drove the car Kayden had bought her to work. It was a special day for her as she was officially starting her role as the project leader. As Kayden had advised, driving a luxury car would help assert her status.
Upon arriving at the company, she saw someone she loathed-Jamie. He was carrying a box, looking dejected as he walked out of the building.
It was clear he had come to collect his belongings. Jamie had only been the project leader for a day, and this sudden change didn’t sit well with him.
What bothered him even more was that Georgia had taken his place. Rumors were already circulating that Georgia had had an affair with Beckett, which was why she had been appointed to lead the project.
For Jamie, the worst part was missing the chance to fuck Lara. He had been so close to succeeding before this upheaval.
“What the hell!” he cursed, just as a Mercedes-Maybach pulled up beside his BMW X6, highlighting the inferiority of his car. Jamie was taken aback; a three-million-dollar Maybach was not something an average person drove. Could it be Beckett?
As he pondered, Georgia stepped out of the car.
“Georgia Adams!” Jamie couldn’t help but call out her name.
