When Rosa heard Jerome’s introduction, she stepped out and was astonished to see him. It was indeed Jerome, and not just any Jerome but the Jerome who had been out of the limelight for years. Rosa, being more well-versed, knew the significance of this visit, while Scarlett had only heard of Jerome but never met him.
“Old Mr. Stevens!” Rosa stammered, her eyes wide with disbelief. Jerome was not someone people could just meet casually. He had retired from public life years ago and no longer attended any events. Even Hiphia’s wealthiest family, the Fords, couldn’t summon someone of his stature.
“Who are you?” Jerome asked curtly.
“I’m Rosa, the mother-in-law of Lucas Simon, who owns Fortune Jewelry Store on Jewellery Street. I often…”
“Enough!” Jerome interrupted abruptly. “I’m not here for you, nor am I interested in who your son-in-law is.”
“Mrs. Adams, this is the Blood Diamond Ring Mr. Scott asked me to deliver to you.” Jerome pulled out a box, revealing a stunning red diamond ring. The gem was a deep blood-red, vibrant and impossible to ignore.
“A Blood Diamond Ring?” Rosa gasped. “Is this the one that sold for twenty million dollars last year?”
“Yes!” Jerome confirmed emphatically. “Please accept it, Mrs. Adams.”
Scarlett’s hand trembled as she took the ring. Her excitement was palpable. A ring worth twenty million dollars was beyond anything anyone in the Adams family had ever possessed.
“Goodbye!” Jerome said and turned to leave, leaving Scarlett and Rosa in a state of shock.
“Oh my God!” Rosa exclaimed, giving Scarlett a thumbs-up. “Scarlett, you’re incredible! Your son-in-law is amazing. He just made a phone call and got Old Mr. Stevens to personally deliver a diamond ring.”
Son-in-law! A phone call! Scarlett suddenly remembered Kayden’s call and wondered if he had indeed arranged for Jerome to deliver the ring. No, no, no, Scarlett quickly dismissed the thought. How could Kayden have any sway with someone like Old Mr. Stevens? It must have been Tony Scott who arranged it.
Old Mr. Stevens must have heard about Tony’s gift and decided to make the trip personally. The call from that fool must have just been for show.
…
Meanwhile, Georgia and Kayden were in the car, enjoying an unusually quiet moment. It was in these rare moments that Georgia could truly appreciate the changes in Kayden.
Kayden had changed-really changed-into someone unfamiliar to her. Despite his quirks, he had many admirable qualities. He could cook delicious meals and had saved lives. The rewards he received from saving people indicated he was a good person. More importantly, he knew how to protect her.
After waiting three years, Georgia felt it was worth it to see this new version of Kayden.
The car was headed to the school when Georgia received a call from Old Mrs. Adams.
Old Mrs. Adams, speaking with genuine sincerity, asked Georgia to come to the company for an important matter. Initially reluctant, Georgia was persuaded when Old Mrs. Adams spoke about the company’s future and her grandfather’s legacy.
Georgia held grudges against the Adams for what they had done to her, but the company was her grandfather’s sole legacy. She didn’t want it to be destroyed. Many times, her decision was motivated by thoughts of her grandfather.
After hearing Old Mrs. Adams’ plea, Georgia looked at Kayden with a troubled expression.
After a moment of hesitation, she asked, “Grandma wants me to go to the company. Can I go?”
Kayden replied, “They want you to be in charge of the project. Go ahead!”
“How do you know?” Georgia asked, surprised.
Kayden smiled, “Didn’t I tell you? The project needs you to lead it. The head of the Atkinson family used to be my subordinate. He wouldn’t dare ignore my orders.”
Georgia, who initially found Kayden reliable, was left speechless by this statement.
She frowned, unsure of what to say. Maybe Kayden hadn’t fully recovered yet.
Perhaps it was the long period of foolishness that required time to heal.
But she said nothing more and took a cab while Kayden drove the newly purchased car to pick up Leah.
“Kayden, why are you, this fool, picking me up?” Leah asked, her eyes wide with surprise. She wore a ponytail and a school uniform with jeans, looking youthful and vibrant, though she seemed unhappy.
Kayden calmly said, “Your sister had to leave early, so I’m here.”
Leah shot Kayden an annoyed glance and said, “Fine, let’s go.”
Leah wasn’t at the school but at a restaurant with some classmates.
As Kayden approached, Leah quickly took his arm and whispered, “By the way, do you have money on you?”
Kayden glanced at the restaurant, named Moon Viewing Restaurant, which was known for its upscale cuisine. It was one of Hiphia’s more luxurious establishments, and its owner, Ben Hudson, was a notable figure in town. The restaurant had eighteen floors, with prices increasing the higher people went.
“I have some money. Why?” Kayden asked.
Leah made a face and smiled. “Actually, I need to borrow some money. We might have to split the bill, and it would be awkward if I don’t have enough.”
It was understandable for a girl Leah’s age to be concerned about such things.
“I don’t have cash on me, but I can use my card,” Kayden said.
Leah’s brow furrowed slightly but then she nodded, “Alright, as long as you said that, I’m relieved.”
Soon, they arrived at a room on the third floor of the restaurant. As they approached the door, Leah warned, “Be careful not to say anything out of line. The people inside are not to be trifled with. Just follow my lead.”
Kayden nodded silently.
Leah opened the door, revealing a group of young people engaged in smoking and drinking, creating a chaotic scene.
As Kayden entered, everyone in the room looked up from their conversations, staring at him.
