Diego’s POV
Why the fuck is that lady not responding to my text? I glanced at my messages and call log but nothing came from Kamara. I had kept my distance to keep from appearing desperate, but her decision to not respond to me was driving me nuts.
Close to a month since we had sex and she has chosen to keep mute. Would it be wrong to barge in on her? Or did she run away?
But that would be stupid of her. All I have to do is have her family out of the house and into the streets in no time. She is stressing me out. On second thought, what if she is experiencing some sort of complications again and resorted to not telling me? Knowing that might be the case made me clench my fist tightly. She is nothing but a pain in the ass.
“How is Kamara?” Nana asked out of the blue.
Fernandez’s laughter that I had shut out a while ago drowned out with a cough all of a sudden and his glass of juice hung in the air. He had come by the house to pick me up for the night out we were having. Only to get cornered by Nana insisting we eat with her.
“Why aren’t you responding?” She stated.
I sucked my teeth. “What is your business with my personal affairs, Nana?” I retorted rudely in a bid to make her back off.
But I keep forgetting that she is a stubborn woman.
“I wouldn’t care if she wasn’t carrying my grandchild. Also, I need to know if you are treating her well. Knowing you and your stupid affairs, it won’t be a surprise that you have turned her away from you.”
I snorted, “When would you ever back me up without throwing a shade? What if she chose to get rid of the child and leave me?”
Nana looked unfazed. “Kamara doesn’t look like that kind of girl. Unless you did something stupid, she won’t act cruel.”
Something evil twitched inside of me and I felt the urge to burst her bubble. “Well, I am glad to announce to you that……”
Before I could get my words across, Fernandez began to cough so loud and hard that it had Nana and the maids running helter-skelter to help him.
While they were at it, he glared at me while mouthing a string of curses. I flared my nose at him maintaining a stubborn stance like my grandmother. He eventually cut out the act after giving me the middle finger.
“Take enough water, baby. Are you okay now?”
Nana asked while searching his face like she could pick something out of it.
I rolled my eyes. “Why are you acting like he was about to die?”
She eyed me in distaste. “No one matters to you, not even the friend who puts his life out for yours always.”
“Yes, Nana,” Fernandez interjected, fixing his mouth in a way that said he was about to conjure a lie. “I don’t know why I got burdened with a friend like him. As for Kamara, he had said some things that angered the pretty lady and she resorted to ignoring him.”
Nana pointed the cooking spoon in her hand threateningly. “I knew you were up to no good. Do yourself a favor by resolving things between you two or you won’t like what I will do to you. I want you two out of my kitchen.”
“Wow, love turned sour so fast? I thought you wanted us to eat with you?” I mocked.
She shook the spoon more aggressively, a typical Spanish woman. “Say one more word and I will have your head rolling down that carpet. Get out now!”
I walked majestically while Fernandez took it seriously. All of a sudden I felt something hard hit the back of my head. It hurts so bad.
“Nana!” I whined.
She looked unfriendly and yelled after me. “That is what you deserve for thinking you can treat a woman whichever way you please.”
“This is all your fault.” I fumed at Fernandez when we got into the car.
He smacked his lips. “You have lost your damned mind. Weren’t you about to confess the truth to Nana?”
“So what?”
“It is useless trying to reason with you. Do you know how shattered she will be when she learns we took things that far and at the cost of an innocent child?”
“You make it sound like I killed the child.” I hissed.
“Whatever you will say to me, it had better be you being grateful. Don’t be surprised if Nana ends up disowning you. You act more like a bastard than any actual bastard I have seen.”I stretched a hand out and knocked his head hard. “Fuck you.” He retorted not taking his eyes off the road. “And next time get a fucking driver.”
I stretched out my neck, sniffing. “You do know I have more than enough drivers. But have you not heard anything from Kamara?”
“Why would I? I am not her side piece.” Fernandez bit back.
I slapped my forehead, frustrated that I was even friends with him. “Since you happen to be the nicest amongst us, probably you do have some information that I don’t. It’s almost a month and there is still no news from her.”
He sighed. “Give it time, Diego.”
“I am not going to be so patient anymore.”
“Why? You have plans to die?”
“What the fuck?”
“I was just asking since you said you wouldn’t be patient anymore.”
I put two of my fingers together leaving an almost invisible space in it. “I am this close to killing you with my bare hands. Asshole! I am being serious now and you aren’t hearing me out.”
He almost let out a laugh but held himself back. “Just take a chill pill. You will get the news you want. Also, why do I feel like you want her to be pregnant so bad?”
I scoffed loudly, “Are you stupid? I have nothing to lose here. She is the one who has so much to lose.”
The idiot made a face like he didn’t believe a word I said. I bite down on my lip, really wishing I could make him pay. But my life is in his hands right now since he is driving.
“Quit looking at me like that.” He mused.
“I will get you back,” I assured.
Fernandez wiggled his brows. “That can wait. You should throw your sour mood out the window. Those girls we are about to meet are too premium do not ruin it with your nonsense.” He warned.
“Yeah, yeah!” I sneered.
“You will love it!” He sounded too enthusiastic.
“I hope,” I mumbled under my breath while trying hard not to think of a particular set of plum boobs that I can still taste at the tip of my tongue.
