Wayne raked his fingers through his hair.
“What are we going to do now?” he asked frustratingly.
“I think you would have to let Lord Lina go. To break all connections with you,” Olive answered and Wayne’s eyes darkened.
“Let Lord Lina go?” he laughed darkly.
“Never. Not after what she’s done to my people. She created havoc, Olive. She toiled with people’s minds using my powers. Tried to kill me numerous times using people around me. If not for my natural instincts and skills, I would have died by the hands of people in this very castle. Do you know how many times she controlled the cooks into poisoning my food with the worst poisons in the world? How did she even get them? Do you know how many times Dolly has been controlled into jumping down her window to die? This is just a little of her manipulations back then. I cannot let that witch roam free again. No, no,” Wayne ranted and Olive was totally shocked. No wonder he hated that woman. She was like his only rival.
“But, how could she get so much power to control you like that? From what I heard, witches need time to regain drained energy. She wouldn’t be able to do all those with just her power even if she didn’t do them at once,” Olive spoke up her mind.
“Thinking about it, I think it was not just her power only,” Wayne mused as he stared at the floor with a deep frown on his face. He placed his hands on his waist and was looking quite agitated. Olive was feeling a dark, raging aura from him and she felt like moving backwards in order to breathe properly.
“You also think she has other supporting sources that gave her enough power, right?” she inquired.
“You had said the Green Witch was responsible. So yes, I think she got a lot of supporting power. And…” he trailed off.
“And what?” Olive questioned with peering eyes.
“And I think the Green Witch’s powers was not supposed to be enough too. I’m too powerful for them to deal with me,” he completed.
“Which was why they didn’t deal with you. They used other weaker vessels to deal with you. Or, did you have any personal encounter with Lord Lina frequently?”
Wayne shook his head.
“No. It was always once in a while. When I least expected it. And it would usually be fatal. However, after that, she would disappear for as long as a month before resurfacing. But would go back to using other people again.”
“Then you’re really too powerful for her to just control. I agree with what Mufasa told us. That the Green Witch would be really down now and depleted after possessing you. And, to think that the connection between you and Lina is not that strong anymore. If only we knew where they were Wayne, we would have attacked them in this weak state,” Olive stated in one firm tone.
“I need to know what to do with Lina,” Wayne muttered exhaled deeply.
“I’m sure you’ll figure it out. However, I advise you shouldn’t go and see her anytime soon. We can’t risk her getting into your subconsciousness again.”
Wayne nodded and she smiled.
“Good boy,” she held his hand and brought it to her face. She buried her face in his palm and inhaled his scent.
“We still have the mystery of that planned attack to solve. We haven’t gotten any clues that are good enough to give us a lead,” Wayne brought up a new topic.
“Do you have any suspects? Do you suspect Lord Lina? Don’t you think she’s to weak to carry out something like that?”
“I have suspects. But it’s not Lord Lina. Her energy is very different from the one I felt from the crash site.”
“Then who do you suspect?”
He looked up and raised both his eyebrows up.
“The Vrek Cult,” he answered and Olive’s eyes widened.
“What?”
“Yes. The Vrek Cult.”
“But you said you’re safe in your pack. Why would they attack you in Balendin territory?”
“They were not after me, Olive. Were never after me. It’s you they’re after, Olive. You’re the one The Vrek Cult wants dead,” Wayne affirmed and Olive felt her throat getting dry.
“For this reason? Because I’m mated to you?”
“I don’t think so. Else, why would they send you to me? I believe they had no idea we were mates. They just wanted you to die by my hands.”
Olive gulped down saliva to lubricate her throat but it felt like the liquid evaporated before it even left her mouth.
“Could it be Cynthia?” she asked Wayne and he shook his head.
“Not her. This energy I felt, Olive, it was different. Like a trained dark arts creature. They infiltrated the territory’s protective spells, they possessed people and caused a crash without using any physical means to trash the car. Trust me, this is beyond small Cynthia. This is from a higher power. Not even the master of the cult.”
Olive moved backwards and fell down on the sofa. She hugged her arms and stared at Wayne, feeling scared.
“We have to figure out this puzzle fast. I feel like this is where our bigger problem lies,” she stated and he nodded.
“I would be inviting the other pack healers into this. Also, that Ami girl. I know she’s a lot more than she appears to be. I just didn’t think they would be a time I would care about her abilities. But, it’s high time she shows us what her real magical skills are.”
Olive’s eyes lit up at the mention of Ami. The lady who had saved her life. Yes, that reminded Olive.
“Wayne, I wanted to ask you something,” she spoke up.
“Go on” he said.
“After she knocked you out, how long did it take for you to regain yourself?”
“Immediately, I regained myself. I remembered everything which was why I ran after you. I met Jake and the rest in the receiving room…,” he trailed off.
“Wayne, I think we should just lay low for now until our Mating Ritual is done. Then we can enter into solving these mysteries full time.”
“You are right, mate,” Wayne replied and walked to her on the sofa. He sat beside her and held her in his arms.
“I have a question though.”
She looked into Wayne’s eyes and exhaled.
“How can you talk in your wolf form?”
Wayne stared at her and began to laugh.
“Why are you laughing? Anyway, tell me. Are you part of those ancient pure blood werewolves with lots of knowledge?”
“No, Olive. My wolves talk when I shift. I don’t know when it started, but I’ve been doing it since I remember getting a wolf,” he answered and she looked at him with awe.
