Simon POV.
The food was served by some human maids Elijah had them on hand in the mansion, more of a castle that he owns, we first got served our entre, it’s a full-on dinner, made of many courses. The people on the table weren’t eating, the two vampire lords were drinking more blood-laced wine than the real food, and everyone else seemed to be too afraid to eat the food.
The tension could be cut with a knife in the air, no one understood why we are here, what’s with this dinner party, they are supposed to be enemies, they are supposed to be in war, and still, they are sitting around this table not trying to kill each other yet.
“So dear brother, do tell me, what do I owe this dinner for?” Rain finally asks, her eyes were locked on him the whole time, she looked and sounded to be worried that he’s gonna try to kill her.
“Can’t I just invite my younger sister over?” he says and the looks he got from everyone told him that none of us believed him.
“No, really, not even you,” he says turning to us, and we all shook our heads no, no one believe that he got a nice bone in his body, he’s an evil monster, we all agreed on that.
“Now that we all agreed that no one believes that you are a nice man brother, can you tell us why I’m here? Trying to poison me? Again? Don’t you remember the last time you tried it?” she asks and he only rolled his eyes at her.
“What happened?” AJ asks, and the death glare he got from Elijah, it made me feel sorry for the traitor, for a second I felt bad for him, he didn’t deserve the death look he got, I guess I’m not the only one who thought of him as a traitor.
“And who are you? I haven’t seen you before,” Rain asks, eyes locked on AJ, she had this predator look on her, she looked like she could eat him alive.
“I’m AJ, I work for the lord,” AJ says keeping his head low, avoiding both of their eyes.
“Brother, why are you hiding him, remember when I could have my pick of humans, I miss those days,” she says with a sigh before turning back to AJ.
“My dearest brother has tried to poison me before, he couldn’t do it with food, I don’t eat food, so he injected a human with poison before offering him off to me, and that’s why I don’t take humans from here anymore,” Rain says drinking her whine and giggling.
“It was an honest shot, too bad you didn’t die,” Elijah says sounding like a child who couldn’t win his favourite game.
“Yes and then Thomas, who’s the one in charge of all of us, he spanked his ass,” she says laughing again.
“Rain!” he scolds her, seeing all eyes locked on him, did he get spanked like I do by Simon?
“I mean it in a theoretical way, it’s a metaphor, Thomas had him under some hard punishment,” Rain says now, finally holding her laugh.
The rest of the dinner went like this, it was the two teasing each other, was it worth having a war all due to some siblings rivery, two siblings teasing each other and the rest of us stuck in the middle?
“It’s time for me to leave, I guess you wouldn’t mind if your daughter and son-in-law would drive me home,” she says, wanting us to go along with her, that could be a trap of its own, or she might want us to be there with her for some other reason, it’s a risk we should take.
“We can do that, Lord,” I add, remembering how everyone talks the same with him, I prefer the name boss, I’m not some kind of god, I’m not that arrogant, I know I’m just a boss, and I earned my title.
“Rain,” he says in a cold voice, I guess he’s about to say no for sure.
“You’re going to let your powerless, younger sister, a young woman, walk home on her own?” she says, and I had to hold back my laugh, she’s playing the weak girl card while she’s a badass mafia boss, vampire!
“Fine, take her, but my daughter stays in, only Simon would go,” Elijah says, I only smiled, I’m walking to my death or maybe to my salvation.
“Let’s go, Miss Rain,” I say, it felt so weird being so polite to another mafia boss, knowing that she’s nothing like that, but we’re both playing our roles here.
“Here you go,” I say opening the car door for her, she got in the car and I started driving toward her territory, not sure where she want to be dropped off, but I’m gonna make sure not to pass her borders.
“Talk, what do you have in mind Storm, I know you didn’t ask for me for nothing,” I say knowing she had something in her mind.
“You’re on my good side, I don’t like seeing you over my brother’s side,” she says looking at me.
“I’m not happy over being on your brother’s side,” I confess.
“Then leave,” she says, only if it was that easy.
“I owe him one, and he owns my wife,” I say.
“Then your best option is for my brother to die,” she says.
“And then? having another vampire lord owning us?” I ask her, I’m not going to be under someone’s else thumb.
“How about this, kill my brother, and you’ll be under my protection, you want to take your wife and go off in the sunset, then do it, but I want something in return,” she says.
“What do you want?” I ask her with a groan.
“I want the AJ guy, and I want you to work for me from now on, you can have your own decisions for your gang, but from now on, you work with us as well, we’re no longer enemies,” she says and I didn’t think about it twice.
“Deal, but you’ll have to be the one who kills him,” I say, I won’t be able to kill a vampire lord, but she can.
“I’ll need help,” she says.
“We’ll work on it,” I agree with her.
