A little heist

NALEDI’S POV
My heart drummed in my chest as I located the file I spotted the previous day.
I reached for it, dragged it out of the shelf and placed it on a nearby stool. With shaky hands, I opened the content of the large file and looked through the first page.
Details of shipments made by the Yakuza in past years stared back at me, counting back to decades before. My heart skipped knowing I had the exact file in hand.
Draken’s father had always been particular about keeping records. I knew for a fact because we were always made to document every single operation carried out for his supervision and audit.
Quickly, I flipped through the documents that housed a lot of details that could be wielded as a weapon against the Yakuza mafia businesses while I searched for something that could be useful to me.
In a few gruelling minutes, I found what I was looking for. A much recently filed document. I slapped myself in the head for not going through the end of the document sooner. It would have saved me a lot of time.
I read a few lines of the said documents and caught sight of the details of the incoming shipment. Detailed in such a way that even the littlest child would be able to understand it.
Carefully, I dug out three of the most recently filed documents, looked around the office, and sure enough, there was a printer lying at the edge of the wall, waiting to be used by me.
I threw a look at the opened door and decided if I was going to do this with the minimal noise possible, I’d have to close the door. My stride to the door was long and fast. Soon enough, the door was shut lightly, leaving a bit of space just in case it had an automatic lock.
With that done, I rushed back to the printer and painstakingly worked my way around it until it was ready to print. I placed the papers for a good job, only it wasn’t a good job. The ink was dried up so it was hard to get the job done.
When last did Draken put this fucking printer to use? I wondered as I ransacked his drawers for a refill of ink, praying to the heavens that he actually had something of the sort.
I turned out all the drawers and there was no sign of ink. My expectations hit rock bottom as I considered taking the papers out of the office, but decided it was too much of a risk. I didn’t know when Draken would return to his office and the last thing I needed was to give him something to suspect me about.
While contemplating my next course of action, the door opened. Instinctively, I hid behind the shelf, breath seized and downright panicking. I still had the document lying on the stool and I held the papers in my hand.
If I got caught, that would be the end of the road. I knew Draken enough to know that he never gave second chances. And if he did, I was pretty sure that his grace would not be extended to someone who murdered his father.
Either way, I was fucked. It wasn’t a good feeling.
The intruder, which I was yet to ascertain their identity stopped at Draken’s desk, placing some files on top of it. I couldn’t see him, but I could see his hands. It was nothing like Draken’s. Perhaps one of his guards?
Just when I thought I had escaped being caught in the Alpha’s office, the lad stopped in his tracks. My breath seized when he started walking towards my direction.
I racked my brain for an excuse. Anything to legitimize my being in this office and holding these papers. I came up empty. In a split second, I decided if he saw me I was going to knock him out cold.
And if things end up that I got caught, I’d turn the crime on him. After all, it was my words against his. That thought was flushed down the toilet when I realized he already had a legitimate reason for being here.
Meanwhile, I had nothing. If I were to stand before a court, I’d be pronounced guilty before I got through the first five minutes of the session. My life was pathetic.
The man picked up the file that was laid haphazardly on the stool. Thankfully, he didn’t check for the last page and closed it off. I guessed that he thought the Alpha had been going through the file and somehow forgot to place it back on the shelf.
My mind was conjuring all sorts of things these days. The man proceeded to the shelf and that’s when I saw him. It was a guard. One of the guards that stood outside the Alpha’s office. Draken’s personal bodyguard.
He stood very close to me as he fixed the file on the shelf while I held my breath. Praying and clutching the stolen papers against me with shut eyes. Our little guard took his sweet time, looking through the other entries after he placed the file.
After an audaciously long few minutes, he walked out the door and shut the door behind him. I collapsed on the floor, breathing like one who just returned from a sudden heart attack.
I immediately hurried to the shelf, ready to return the papers and continue this mission at a later time until I sighted a pack of unused ink at the lower part of the shelf – sitting pretty and ready to be used.
Thrown into another dilemma, I struggled with thoughts of leaving the office and returning at a later time or having the entire thing done using the ink. My struggle lasted a total of six seconds before I grabbed the ink and made my way to the printer.
It was official. I was out of my fucking mind and on my way to death but I couldn’t imagine walking out here without these papers after everything I’d been through in the last ten minutes.
My mind suddenly wanted to highlight the fact that the door had been shut properly and there was a high chance I was locked in but I shelved the thoughts on the back burner and continued my job with utmost dedication.
It took five minutes to have everything set and soon enough, I was printing the photocopies. When the shit came out beautifully, I hugged them like my babies, kissing them with a thwacking sound.
After shoving the copies into my ass – you heard right, I put that shit into my ass, I made sure my skirt left no traces of what I had done before I ate up the bad papers. I couldn’t risk putting them in the waste bin.
Now, all that was left was to return the papers and make my way out of this darned place. I took out the file and after doing everything possible to ensure the papers were not rumpled from my little escapade, I filed them neatly into the bond.
I placed the file in its place on the shelf and dusted my hands, ready to leave. With my heart in my chest, I moved for the door, pulling gently on it but it didn’t open.
My heart plummeted into my stomach and I tried again. This time around, pulling a bit harder until it flung open. I peeped into the hallways and oddly enough, there was no one around.
Deciding to take my little wins, I walked out of the place, shut the door and headed straight for my room.
