Caellum’s attention was caught, alright?

NALEDI’S POV
I watched Donna walk down the hallway, leaving me and Caellum, who made to speak but I didn’t have it.
I trudged right towards my room, trying to wrap my head around what just happened. By the time I got to my room, I rushed to the curtains, taking a peak outside.
Caellum was down there with Donna by his side. It seemed like they were going out, but waiting for something. Or should I say – someone.
Soon enough, Matteo showed up, taking Caellum to the corner and saying something to him. I watched a frown marr his face as he took a lookup, right at my window.
I move to the side, my heart beating fast. Why the hell was I watching him through a window? And why was I fucking hiding? I heard the revving of a car when I looked out the second time, they were gone.
Shit.
My mood soured and I jumped on my bed, wondering what the hell was going on with me. I was supposed to be planning a revenge. Not obsessing about some nobody who had the hots for my man.
Not to mention the fact that the said man was actually entertaining her. I needed a fucking drink. With that in mind, I headed for the fridge, hoping to get my mind away from Caellum and his women and get into more important things.
How to fulfil my deal with Nicolai.
Ever since my marking, I have been reluctant to do my end of the deal. I didn’t know if it was an effect of the mark I bore or the fact I didn’t want to hurt Caellum, but I just couldn’t bring myself to get going with the plan.
The last time I visited Nicolai, I was out of my mind. Looking back, I couldn’t help but feel like I overreacted and some part of me blamed that on the heat I felt. It was public knowledge that heat can mess with your mind.
Further study into it told me there were three stages to it – Before, during and after. Having gone through it first-hand, I could see what they meant by it. Before the heat, you got antsy, feelings were heightened and the rest of it.
I need not say what went down during the process. After was a whole new deal altogether. Others say that the after-heat experience was the best. The connection was deeper, love stronger and if you did things the right way, you should be expecting a pup or two depending on the male.
Mine was the other way around. Not only was my relationship with Caellum strained but I had a new bitch in town whose whole existence ruffled my feathers. Not to mention my lack of progress in my deal to bring down the Cosa Nostra.
I opened the fridge and picked out a beer, ready to drown my anger when Korah stepped into the kitchen. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “I just can’t seem to have a break,” I muttered,
“My lady.” Those words were foreign in her mouth.
“Oh drop it. Just call me Naledi. We are way past that shit now.”
It was faint but I saw it. Her smile. Korah freaking smiled at me.
“The last time..”
“You were doing your job and I was a pain in your ass. I get it. Believe me, I get it.” Even I was surprised by how cool I was with her.
I guess some things were just meant to happen. No need to drag things on.
“You sure know how to drive a mean punch though,” I added and she laughed, a full-blown laughter.
“You pack a mean one yourself.” She ended up saying while I gulped down my beer. “Is something wrong?”
Korah always found me when I was out of it. I didn’t know what to make of that.
“Donna. That’s what.” I find myself saying. It was surprising how easily I admitted that. Maybe it was the alcohol. “Who the hell is she and what does she want with him?”
“You mean the Alpha?” Korah asked and I answered her by rolling my eyes dramatically. “According to news flying around, she was betrothed to him.”
“I know that bit.” I sneered, “She straight out said it to my face. What else?”
“Apparently, the late Luna promised to have her son marry her friend’s child. Who happens to be Donna. She is from the Bravta pack.”
I nodded in understanding. “Where has she been all these while? Why decide to show up now?”
“Because the former alpha sought her out. News has it that she is a key part of some deal they are trying to close so the former alpha used her to get the Alpha’s attention.”
That slimy old fool.
“Well, they succeeded.” I yapped, pissed. “Caellum’s attention was caught alright.”
“Are you sure you are okay? Because you don’t look too good.”
I didn’t answer. I stormed into the living room, mind scattered abroad. Where did they go? Why did they dress so fancy? Was he trying out his options because I didn’t mark him? What the hell were they up to?
Korah plunged beside me with a beer of her own. “I miss working with you.”
I gave her the look and took a big gulp of my beer.
“The spontaneity. It was fun. I never knew what I got with you, and that is honestly refreshing.”
“Good thing you learned that the hard way.” I turned to her, “What do you say about getting a secret assignment from me?”
She chuckled, taking a sip of her drink. “Of course not.”
“I mean it. You said you wanted to be spontaneous. I’m making you an offer you won’t be able to resist.”
She looked amused. I didn’t know what came over me. Maybe it was the alcohol. Yeah, I was blaming everything on the Alcohol now.
“Follow them. Find out where they are and send me updates on what they are doing. I need every single detail.”
Now she was laughing. “You want me to stalk them?”
“No. Just see what they are doing. I’d like to do it myself but seeing my mark has made it impossible for me to do that without getting caught, you are my next best option.”
Still laughing, “Are you serious right now?”
“Never been more serious.”
