Monster in your belly, I presume?

NALEDI’S POV
I swiped right and the call connected.
“Amara.” His voice reminded me of the nonsense he pulled the previous day.
“Why are you calling me so early, Luka?”
He chuckled, “Are you still upset, my love?”
“Is there any reason I shouldn’t be?”
“You hurt me, my love.” He said but I knew he was far from hurt. In fact, I could tell he was having a good time pulling at my strings. “When can we meet?”
I rolled my eyes. “We have nothing to talk about, Luka.”
“Not even about the new business?”
My lips stretched into a smirk. “What about the new business?”
“You should know me well by now, Love.” He breathed, “I don’t discuss my business over the phone. We need to see, and sign some dotted lines. Get to work. And if you are open, have a date while at it.”
“I’ll be available tomorrow at 10. As for the date, I’ll pass. Anything else?”
“I say we meet today. 8 pm good for you?” He bargained,
“After the day we had yesterday. You are in no position to call the shots. Tomorrow at 10. Text me the address.” I said in a non-negotiable tone.
“Fiesty woman that knows what she wants. I like.”
I rolled my eyes at his obvious futile attempt at flirting. “If that is all, have a good day.”
I ended the call before he could say a word. I loved getting the last word. I dropped my phone on the table, feeling Caellum’s piercing gaze. One second later, the phone dinged with a message.
Detailing an address and a couple of suggestive emos for regard.
I looked up to Caellum, “There you go. A meeting with Luka to discuss business.”
“I never thought I’d see the day.” I twitched my brows, contemplating the meaning of his words. “Good job, Naledi.” He added and it was genuine.
“Thanks,” I said, getting up on my feet. My stomach rumbled and once again, I felt hungry.
“Monster in your belly I presume.” He said and reached into his pocket for his phone, sent a quick text and proceeded on his way out.
“W-where are you going?” I spluttered when he opened the door.
“To have a bath and get out of your hair.” He said,
I fought the urge to point out the bathroom that was right there, waiting for him to use.
“I’d have my bath here but I figured if I am going to learn to stay out of your hair and make things work, I need to make better choices.” I nodded my head, unsure of the tightening feeling that I felt in my throat.
Why did this feel so much like a breakup?
“Cool.” I said, much uncooly but who cared?
“I ordered your breakfast. Keep me updated on the job. I’ll be leaving sooner than later.”
With that, he walked out of the room, leaving me to myself. My shoulders sagged with the weight of responsibility I now carried. I didn’t know if I liked or hated it, but I figured I would find out in time.
But for now, I needed a good bath, some foolproof plan, and not to forget to feed the monster in my belly. As Caellum fondly calls it.
The rest of the day went as a blur and before I knew it. I was getting ready to meet with Luka Morello. And this time around, nothing was going to stop me. I’d made sure of that.

“El riket Biyarn!” Marcus chanted, staring at me with intense eyes.
I felt my wolf retreat every time he chanted the word, reducing me once again to a failable human. I knew when he was done. Not just because of the lack of chants but the fact that I felt as slow as a slowpoke. Weak and prone to damage.
And all to keep up with my Alias as Amara Cordel.
“Here,” Korah handed me a carton box which I opened almost immediately. “What is this?”
“Korah won’t be coming with us, seeing you have room for only one bodyguard,” Marcus said. “Instead of wiring you up, I figured giving you a device you could easily plant in his office was better.”
I took out the little device and it was true. Small little black thing that could easily be attached to objects, so little it didn’t stand out, it could get lost if you were not careful.
“I like it,” I remarked, and then my face turned sour. “What if he doesn’t take me into his office? There’s a chance we don’t meet in his office, where I can easily plant the thing.”
Marcus nodded, “I realised that is an option, so in that case, you can just let it go. This will only work if you get an opportunity inside his office, where the magic happens.”
I nodded. Luka was one tricky motherfucker. If my memories serve me right, he didn’t let out information just anywhere. He protected every information about him so much that he couldn’t even make a decision with his powerpuff boys over the phone.
If there were any place we can get information it would be in the privacy of his office. And so help me God, I was going to penetrate it. Whether he liked it or not.
“Are you ready?” I asked Marcus as soon as I was done with my little thinking,
“Ready when you are.” He said and I wanted to remark he was yet to change his appearance when he suddenly glamoured himself into a buffy-looking man. Talk about tailour made for the role of bodyguard.
I nodded and he led the way out of the room. Clad in a beige gown that stopped a little before my knees, legs that ran for days, and a sharp pointy heel, I was ready for action.
Not forgetting my pink PSS gun that was slid beautifully into my purse. We trudged out of the house and a beautiful Lamborghini was standing in front of me, ready for my taking.
What can I say, I travelled in style. And boy did I love this part of the job.
