NALEDI’S POV
Caellum left the room bare-chested, leaving me to my maid duties.
I stood in the door of his now-messed up closet and it took everything not to punch the wall beside me.
Who the hell did he think he was?!
I heard a car rev out of the compound and I didn’t need a soothsayer to know he was the one. The urgency and speed used in the exit were tale enough.
“You are a woman on a mission, Naledi. Calm the fuck down.” I said out loud, holding my head as I walked into the closet, breathing heavily.
I didn’t know where to begin. Everything was a mess. The clothes were thrown haphazardly and Caellum had a ton of them.
Taking a deep breath, I began my job, picking up the clothes and finding where they belonged. I entertained myself with the thought of having my revenge at the tip of my fingers, waiting to be executed.
I couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when I stripped him of everything he had. Like his father stripped me. Then I would remind him of this day, and make him regret talking to me with such disregard.
With gritted teeth, I worked till midnight. By the time I was done, my body ached everywhere and Caellum was yet to return. I stifled a yawn, making sure everything was in place before I got out of the room, and turned off the light behind me.
******
It’s been a few days and no word or show from Caellum. No surprise there.
I was growing frustrated with having nothing to do, following his disappearance act. These days, I was left with a lot of free time and nothing to do with it.
In fact, in a bid to do away with boredom, I’d done the forbidden, and entered into Caellum’s home office, hoping to gain some inside information.
With Caellum’s delayed trust in me and his disappearance altogether, the grand revenge plan was stunted. How was I supposed to get him to trust me and ruin the darned pack when I barely had time with him?
And I say that with a non-compromised heart.
I hadn’t even gotten a full tour of the pack house because I was restricted to my chambers and the Alpha’s chambers – which were barely lived in by Caellum. He spent more time in his office than in his chambers.
Little wonder I was able to access the place. It was swept of everything meaningful. In order to take down this pack, I needed to get my hands on the nitty-gritty details of the pack and find out its weaknesses.
Which was my mission in Caellum’s office this morning.
I shut the door closely behind me and I am greeted with the intoxicating scent of Caellum. Despite his absence, I could feel his aura wrapped around me just by stepping into the space.
After checking the door was locked, I headed straight for his table, sifting through the papers on top of them. My hands were quick as I worked through the paperwork, looking for anything that jumped at me, or screamed the perfect blackmail material.
It seemed like they had just given him a dozen financial reports because all I could see were numbers of income. Large numbers I tell you. Even the Bravta Russian pack didn’t make this sort of money in a month.
And I say that with full assurance.
I was once again reminded of how powerful my adversary could be, and why I needed to be careful if I was to achieve my set out goals. I turned around the table and turned out the drawers.
My ears perked and I stiffened when I heard some distant voices. Instinctively, I made my way to the store room of the office, ready with an excuse, just in case I met company.
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
Whoever it was passed and I soon got back to my forbidden activity of ransacking the Alpha’s office. This has got to be the highlight of my job as his maid.
I turned out the third drawer and took out the only document placed inside. One page in and I felt short of breath. My face grew stormy as I read the details of the said documents.
Naledi Rogers. 22. American she-wolf and daughter of the exterminated Roger Pack Alpha. Trained Assassin under the Yakuza mafia pack, Wanted by the Yakuza mafia pack. Work Alias – ‘Attai’. Worked with the Bravta Mafia pack as a hired Assasin for the last five years.
My hands shook as I held the documents. He had a background check done on me. I flipped through the pages and saw more and more details of my past. Including the ones I hoped to forget.
And they were all here, sitting pretty in his drawers. I bet he had a field day reading all the horrors I went through. I dropped the document flat on the table and a laugh escaped me.
One that made me look like a deranged woman. I didn’t even care to keep my voice low. He must have thought me a fool all this while. He knew. He knew I was the survivor of the exterminated Roger pack.
The one his father had brutally murdered. Or should I say, exterminated?
The laughter ceased and like a robot, I returned the papers back to it’s place with a fresh and renewed thirst for revenge. As soon as I stepped away from the desk, the door flung open and Matteo walked in.
He didn’t look surprised. He knew I was here.
“You are not supposed to be here.” His words were icy and his gaze suspecting.
I bet he was the one that got the darned check done. The preciseness of it all had Matteo written on it. Besides, there was no one else Caellum would trust with such a delicate matter.
I was his mate after all.
“There isn’t much to do with the Alpha’s disappearance.” I snickered. “I decided to get creative with doing my job. I’d hate to have my pay slashed because I wasn’t doing anything and the person I was supposed to wait on has gone to God knows where.”
It was a miracle that came out straight. Matteo’s eyes narrowed at me.
“The Alpha is-”
“Here,” Caellum said as he walked into the office.
Was it my eyes or did he look tanned?
“Welcome back, Alpha.” My tone was chapped, and my lips pressed in a firm line.
Caellum watched me with predatory eyes. I didn’t move. Neither did I cower.
“You are not allowed to enter the Alpha’s office.” Matteo began but was cut off by Caellum.
“Leave us, Matteo.”
