NALEDI’S POV
I felt ashamed of myself.
I had promised I would never be weak. I promised myself never to be the victim and I once again fucked up in keeping said promise.
Two knocks came from the door but I didn’t bother answering. She would come in anyway. My new assistant – Korah.
I didn’t like the idea of someone attending to me but I didn’t have much of a say in the matter. That bit was made abundantly clear to me by Matteo, who was now in charge of me, as per Alpha’s orders.
Where was the fucking Alpha when I was getting gang raped by his subjects?
I fought the anger that bit at me as I thought of the perfect plan to get out of this mess. If Caellum was anything like his father, I couldn’t put it past him to send me back to that prison.
“Here is your lunch, my Lady.” She said after setting up the table.
Everything was steaming hot and the aroma of its deliciousness filled the air. This was a great change as to what I was getting back in prison.
And guess what? I didn’t reject the food. I drew the line between being rebellious and stupid, and trust me, it was stupid to reject food after everything I’d been through.
I wasn’t one to pine over the evils done to me. I was the type to get over things by stuffing them in the dark abyss of my mind and working towards getting even – which was my plan.
The only problem was that Caellum hadn’t come to see me since I got up. One would expect him to be the first one I see taking to account the fact that he was my mate, he found me in the hands of his gang rapers and he was the bloody Alpha of the lot.
But no, it seemed like he had no plans to come at this rate. Perhaps he thought granting me exit from the prison and treating me to good accomodation and food would cut him some slack, but I didn’t think so.
“Where is the Alpha?” It hurt my pride to refer to him as an Alpha when I badly wanted to use a more colourful description.
Korah’s eyebrow corked, as though she wasn’t expecting me to talk. I didn’t blame her. I hadn’t uttered a single word to her since I met her, and for good reasons if you ask me.
“The Alpha has been busy, My lady.” She said and I almost rolled my eyes.
“That’s the excuse we are going with?” I asked and with a wave of hand, dismissed the conversation. “You know what? Just forget I asked. It was dumb of me anyway.”
Korah shook her head, “The Alpha ordered a solemn assembly with all the pack members.”
That caught my attention. “Why is that?”
“To punish the men that hurt you.”
I felt my defence come up at her words and I deflected with sarcasm. “That’s odd, that means he would be punishing himself.” I corked my head to the side. “Yeah, not happening.”
“The Alpha told everyone of how they had tried to abuse the Lady, and killed them gruesomely after warning the pack against trying anything of the like.”
“Killed them gruesomely?”
“He handcuffed the men to a car and dragged them through a bumpy road until they were all dead and covered with mud.”
I couldn’t help the smile that graced my lips. “Is that it?” I said in a non-committal tone. “I’ve seen worse.”
“He ordered that they do not be buried but hung in the bushes for the vultures to eat up their remains.”
Now that was shocking. “H-He did what?”
“He ordered that they do not be buried but hung in the bushes for-”
“I heard you the first time, Korah.” I shut her up, and a thoughtful expression covered my face. “The question should be why. Why would he go through that length?”
“Because you are his woman.”
I nearly choked on my water. “And where the hell did you get that from?”
“The Alpha. He told us that the Lady was his woman.” Her eyes met mine. “That you are his woman.”
I dropped my cup. “Okay. Now I’ve got to see him. What in the world?”
“You will see him.”
“When?” I snapped, “Because I don’t have all the time in the world.”
“Tonight. Beta Matteo said you will be having dinner with the Alpha tonight.”
My eyes went the size of saucers. “And when were you planning on telling me that?”
“Before I-”
“You could have started with that.” I cut her off, my brain churning at an alarming rate.
I didn’t have much time. If I was going to see Caellum, I needed to be prepared. Mentally and physically. I couldn’t afford to be locked up. Be it in the prison or this darned princess room.
I’d lose my wits and waste valuable time I could use to make some money, and even better, take my revenge on this godforsaken pack.
A smile stretched my lips as I thought of a plan.
It was only fitting I made good use of the time I had to plan out my revenge on the pack that killed my family. As far as I know, the Cosa Nostra pack invaded my family and pack, headed by Arturo Morello, Caellum’s father, and slaughtered my entire clan leaving me alone.
For years I had searched for the Alpha of the Cosa Nostra pack, and just when it felt like I was a bit closer to my catch, he slipped out of my hand, forcing me to begin the chase afresh.
Now I was in the darned pack, I couldn’t see the reason why his son couldn’t pay for the sins of his father. But before that could happen, I needed to find my ground in this pack.
And to do that, I needed Caellum. Which made having dinner with him sound more enticing.
