James POV.
They are all dead, everyone died, my parents died years ago, it’s not them that I’m sad about, but it’s the lost of my beta, of my pack, the rest of my family, everyone is gone and I’m the only one left, I should have died with them, I shouldn’t have survived but look at how cruel destiny could be, I survived all alone.
What am I supposed to do now that I survived? I don’t have a family anymore, I don’t have a pack, I’m an alpha of nothing, I don’t even have a land anymore, the vampires haven’t left, they knew I’m alive and they’re hanging around to kill me, they’re not going to leave until I’m dead, only then they’d move on. The vampire are very vicious, they don’t give up, they are the type that hold a grudge and they don’t let it go, if I’m on their death list, nothing is going to save me.
I appreciated the call I got form Milo, I always like that boy, but I’m not going to allow him to come over here and ruin his life, I can’t have his blood on my hands, he finally found his soul and coming here to save my ass would ruin the future he could have in the future.
For now all I could do was lay low, I’m hiding, I’m in my wolf form the whole time, I sleep with one eye open, I shift to my human form every now and then, I tried to get into the town, maybe take a bus and run away, but the vampires where all over the place, they’re not letting me go.
I walked back toward the town, ready to scout again, maybe get some real food, I know wolves could kill and eat, but I hate it, I prefer a hot meal, I prefer to have real human food. I shifted to my human form and tried to fix myself, I look like hell, but it’s only a gas station that I’m walking into, I didn’t dare to get into the real shops, what if the vampires were waiting for me there.
I got the keys to the bathroom and went there, happy to have some clean running water and soap, while In there, I kept an ear with the outside listening to people talking, maybe I’ll hear some news about the vampires leaving the town and I’ll be able to get back to my normal life. Not that normal, but I’ll get a chance to leave town and maybe find a new life for myself, I’ll get a chance to survive unless the rest of my pack, the ones that I couldn’t keep safe.
They don’t just attack with their teeth, they don’t play fair, they play dirty, they come from behind, they have no respect to young or old, they’d do anything to win, they want to kill us all, and they managed to, they came in the middle of the night, they broke our fences, they got pass our patrol and they walked into our pack land, they found our homes where we live and stay and they committed a massacre, they killed us in the blackness of the night.
They had weapons, big guns, and they had the number over us, when they attacked they were the one winning, we tried to attack back, we tried to protect ourselves, but what can a wolf do against a machine gun? We’re strong, we’re very strong, we don’t fall easily, but every bullet they used had silver coating, it was enough to kill us, it was enough to push us to the ground.
Being the alpha meant it’s my job to keep everyone safe, to get up and attack them all back, but when I tried to do so, I was shot in my shoulder and placed in a silver cage, they knew I’m the alpha and they decided to leave me for last, it’ll be fun to torture me to kill me last.
I watched the rest of my pack being killed, I saw them giving up their lives, I screamed, I tried to hit my whole body against the cage trying to break through to save them, but I was weak, the bullet was burning my body from the inside but it wasn’t enough to kill me, just strong enough to keep me down, to slow me down. It was torture and they knew it, it’s why they did it, it’s to torture me, to force me to howl in pain so they’d laugh at my pain.
I heard about narcissist before, I saw them, I knew a lot of wolves enjoy and get high on inflicting pain, but the vampires were much worse, the gods found a solution to us wolves, they gave us souls in the form of humans, but the vampires are left out there to roam free and cause all the pain and hurt they want to cause.
After they were done with my pack, they opened the door of the cage, I looked at the one who let me out with confusion, what is this about? The look that I gave them was enough for them to explain things to me.
“Go ahead alpha, go look for your pack,” the vampire says, pointing to the outside, do they just want me to run so they could shoot me? If they do so, I’ll be hit from the back and then they’ll be the cowards, who don’t fight fair.
I ran off and they didn’t follow, they didn’t shoot me, my shoulder was throbbing with pain, but if I knew a couple things about vampire is that they don’t do things without a reason, they let me out here to chase me.
I ran off, I didn’t go home, there’s nothing waiting for me there, my pack is dead, and if they think that I’ll be running to go and find my mate, or my soul, maybe a loved one, they’re wrong, I don’t have anyone to run to, so I ran off to my safe place. When you have a big pack like mine, and you’re the only alpha without a family on your side, that’s when you need to find yourself a safe place, a place where no one can find you and you get to sit in peace.
My safe place was up in the woods, it’s a very old tree house, it’s old enough to be very high off the ground, it doesn’t look safe, and it’s not that visible from the ground point of view, I have managed to patch it up, and keep it hidden. It’s impossible for me to climb in my wolf form, I looked around me and saw no one, I was very sure the vampires have let me go to hunt me, they think that I’m going to run to my mommy, but I had no one. I shifted back to my human form and climbed up, I had to use one hand, there wasn’t any stairs or a ladder for me to climb up on, I had to use the tree and my muscles.
I got inside the tree house and looked around, I have supplies in here, but this place won’t be safe for long, it’s just my safe place for the night, it’s my best pet until my shoulder start healing. I think I have blacked out that night, and I only woke up in the morning and that’s when the run have started, I couldn’t stay in one place, and I only went back to the tree house to sleep at night.
Back to my hiding in the bathroom, I could hear voices coming from the outside, they weren’t familiar, but they might be the vampires, but their words didn’t suggest so, I opened the door slightly and looked at them, they didn’t look familiar, and they were too far away for me to take a sniff and guess what they really are.
“Maybe we can ask around for him?” A girl voice says.
“What run around and say we want the surviving alpha?” an angry male voice answers.
“That’s not what I meant,” the girl voice says with a sigh, he sounded like an idiot, and she sounded like an innocent girl, but I’m the running wolf, and if they are vampires, they are very bad at their job.
I stayed in the bathroom until I made sure that they left, only then I left the bathroom and was ready to leave, I saw a car hit another car, and then two people came out of it running, with vampires chasing them, I could tell those are vampires, they have been trying to hunt me for days, and now they are hunting the two strangers, but that makes the girl and the boy…Milo the idiot! He actually sent someone after me! And now I’m going to have to save them.
I didn’t run after them, I took another turn and went into the wood, shifting into my wolf form, and running to find them, they couldn’t be that far away, I did my best to avoid the vampires, they smell like vinegar, they smell sour, and I was getting used to their smell so I did my best to try to stay clear of them.
The two strangers, I could tell they passed by the woods, their scent was the only wolf smell other than me and the death that’s filling the place, they were trying to get out of here, but the idiots were running in circles, I was trying my best to cut them off so I could show them the real way out.
Since they were running in circles, I cut off the circle, and I found them, the guy was in his wolf form while the girl was sitting on his back, she’s not shifting? Is she his soul? Is he stupid enough to put his own soul in danger? When I saw the girl, when I saw the girl my heart stopped for a second, but I shook my head and brought myself back to reality, I can think about this later.
I looked at the guy and he didn’t look too amused, and since he’s in his wolf form and we’re not pack, I couldn’t talk to him unless if he shifts back to his human form so we could communicate.
“He’s James?” the girl asks, and I nod my head yes, did Milo send them?
“Hi James, Milo sent us to save you,” she says and I had to hold back my chuckle, how is she going to save me? They need to saved, I decided to shift back to my human form so I could talk to her.
“You idiots, you’re in danger,” I scold them, not wanting them, mostly her to be in danger.
“A thank you would be okay,” she sass back at me.
“Thank you for what? I’m gonna have to keep you two safe,” I scold them.
“We had a car, but it broke,” she says sadly, I saw the car roll over and I saw them take off running.
“What are we going to do now?” I ask them, my heroes.
“Get another car,” the wolf says deciding to shift back so we could talk together.
