Stella POV.
“How far is he?” I ask Theo, last time I tried to leave the town with my parents, the pain had me falling down and screaming.
“He’s on the other side of the country, if we drive through the night we’ll be there by morning and back by tomorrow for dinner time,” Theo answers me as I yawned.
“I’m tired, that’s a lot of driving,’ I say, even if I wasn’t tired, I had no idea how to drive, I still needed to learn.
“Did you start your driving lessons yet?” Theo asks me.
“Not really,” I say with a pout, I would have offered to drive a bit, but we need to save James, not be saved ourselves.
“Take a nap, we’ll reach an empty road in about three hours, I’ll give you a quick lesson then,” Theo says.
“Are you for real?” I ask him all excited the sleep running out of my eyes, I wanted to learn how to drive so badly, but dad keeps on refusing to teach me, saying I’ll have time to learn, and Milo says I’m too little to be driving anyway.
“Yes, I’m for real, but you need to sleep first,” he says.
“I can’t sleep now, not that you have told me that,” I whined, I couldn’t sleep anymore, he should know better.
“I’m not going to let you drive after yawning that hard, you’re tired and sleepy, take a nap, I’ll wake you up,” he assures me.
“Promise?” I ask him.
“Yes, I promise Stella, I wouldn’t have said anything if I didn’t plan on going with it,” Theo assures me.
“Fine, I’ll sleep,” I say, putting my head against the window, ready to take a nap.
“I have a blanket in the back, cover up, it’s a cold night,” Theo says and I turn to the back of the car, trying to find the blanket.
“You got a pretty ass,” Theo says looking back at my butt as I was looking for the said blanket.
“Is there really a blanket or this is just a way to look at my butt?” I ask Theo offended.
“There’s a blanket, and the butt is an extra,” he says with a chuckle, I got the blanket, and I covered my whole body with it, especially my butt.
“Night, Theo,” I say closing my eyes ready to fall asleep right away, I never slept that fast, but in my head I knew if I fell asleep, I’ll wake up and it’ll be time to drive.
“Stella,” I heard a voice says through my dreams, I didn’t want to wake up so I ignored the voice.
“Princess, wake up, don’t you want to drive?” Theo says and that got both of my eyes to open and look at him with a big smile on my face.
“I’m ready to drive,” I say happily.
“First, I’m going to caffeinate you,” he says with a chuckle and I nod.
“Fine,” I agree with him, some coffee sounds good now, I was still sleepy and tired.
“Do you want an iced coffee or hot coffee?” he asks me.
“Uhm…chocolate coffee?” I ask him.
“I’ll see what I can do,” he says parking the car in front of a small all night cafe, he went out to get us our drinks while I yawned, I looked at my phone and saw that Milo has left a couple of messages, most of them saying goodnight and have nice dreams.
I didn’t tell him anything, I tried to stay clam, not to give him any reason to come and check on me, I didn’t send Finn any messages worried that he’d tell mom or even worse he’ll tell dad, and then I’ll be locked in my room with metal bars on my window, in the morning I’ll tell him that I went out with Theo and he has to cover for me for a while.
“Here you go, got you a white iced mocha,” Theo says handing me the drink, it tasted good and sweet, I enjoyed it.
“Thank you,” I say sipping my drink and looking ahead of me.
“So when am I going to drive?” I ask Theo.
“So excited? Do you know the basics?” he asks me and I nod.
“So tell me, which one is your break?” he asks and I point to the correct pedal, next he asks me about the accelerator and I answer him correctly, we had a small chat about the gears and finally it was my turn to drive.
“Theo, I can’t reach” I whined, I couldn’t reach any of the pedals, they were too far away, he laughed at me and pushed the seat forward until my feet could reach, I placed one hand on the steering wheel.
“Put both hands on, pay attention, it’s dark but the road is empty,” Theo orders me and I do so, I took my foot off the breaks and the car started to move, it scared me, so I hit it back quickly.
“It’s okay, don’t worry, you can let the car move,” he coaches me, and I do so, I let the car move, we were hardly going five miles per hour and it felt to be very fast for me.
“Now, why don’t we go a bit faster? We’re wolves, we love the speed,” he says encouraging me.
“I’m still human,” I remind him.
“You got two wolf souls inside of you, you’re on our team, go ahead,” he says with a chuckle.
I gave the car a very small lick of gas and let it go up to ten miles per hour, which was terrifying, Theo laughed at my antiques as I tried to drive, after an hour of my very slow driving he gave up on me, saying we need to get moving if we want to get back home this week.
“Can I try again? I promise I’ll drive faster,” I promise him.
“No, princess, I’m the one driving, we need to get there before Milo starts a hunt on your ass,” he says in a cold voice.
“He’s not going to start a hunt, he won’t know I’m not in bed until tomorrow,” I say feeling very sure of myself, he won’t come in my room while I’m sleeping, unlike Theo who likes to crash and only sleep in my bed instead of his.
“Oh how innocent of you princess, you think that he only comes into your room when you’re awake?” Theo says laughing at me.
“Theo, stop it,” I say getting mad at him, I don’t like it when he acts like this toward me, I don’t like the fact that we’re about to fight, and there’s no one around here to stop us.
“Stop what? Telling you the truth?” Theo says with sass, I pouted and covered myself with the blanket again, I wanted to cry now.
“Don’t cry,” Theo warns me.
“I’m not gonna to,” I say with my lower lip trembling a clear sign of me wanting to cry.
“Liar, the truth is that Milo walk by your room every night, sometimes he goes in, and others he doesn’t, you don’t know what happens in your sleep,” he says firmly.
“He doesn’t,” I say with wide eyes, he can’t be serious.
“He does, believe me,” he assures me, and I went back to being quiet.
I think I managed to sleep again, I only woke up when the sun was out and Theo was talking on the phone, he sounded pissed but he’s always angry and pissed, there’s no in between with that guy, he’s either happy or mad, and now he’s very mad, at least I wasn’t the cause this time.
“I said find him, it’s your job to find him,” Theo yells through the phone.
“Fine, I’ll wait, we’re almost there…” Theo says, and then adds, “We’ll be safe, I’ll protect her until the last breath,” he says ending the call.
“Where’s my phone?” I ask him, looking around unable to find it.
“It’s with me,” he says but doesn’t give it back.
“Can I have it back?” I ask him.
“No,” was his very short and firm answer.
“Why?” I ask him waiting for his explanation.
“Milo been calling you all morning, it’s weird that he didn’t wake you up with all the screaming he did in your head,” Theo says,
“Does that mean that he knows we’re absent?” I ask him.
“He knows, but he has no idea where we’re at,” Theo answers me.
“So what do I tell him?” I ask, I didn’t want him to be worried about me the whole time, maybe I could just tell him that I’m out with Theo, or maybe I can stay quiet, but that would make him angry.
“You don’t tell him anything, we just stay quiet, we’ll be back tomorrow, tell him we went out for a drive,” he says with a shrug.
“Okay, I agree with him, deciding to go silent, when I was fully awake, I could hear Milo talking to me through the bond.
‘I’m with Theo,’ I answer him.
‘Where?’ Milo yells through my head, I didn’t dare to answer him, I stayed quiet.
“So where’s he?” I ask him.
“He’s near, keep your eyes on the road, if anyone looks at you funny tell me,” Theo says.
“If someone look at me funny?” I repeat his words.
“We’re in their territory,” Theo says and I swallowed the lump that’s in my throat, this is bad.
“Do you know this James guy?” I ask him, we’re here to get a guy that I don’t even know, and neither does he.
“When we see him, we’ll know him, he’s a jerk and a snob,” Theo says, but that wasn’t good enough, we should be looking for him knowing who he is.
“Theo…” I say after an hour of driving around, there’s this car that keeps driving by us, and they looked at me a couple of times, it didn’t feel okay, maybe that’s what he meant by tell him when they look at me funny.
“What?” Theo says, the same time as that car hit ours, pushing us off the road, I screamed, the car rolled twice, putting us upside down in the car.
“Get out, get out, quickly,” Theo says dragging me out of the car, my ears were ringing, my view wasn’t that clear, but he knew what to do, he took hold of my hand and started to run toward the woods.
“Theo,” I say, fear having the best of me, I wanted to call Milo but he’s too far away for me to call him right now.
“Get here,” Theo says he picked me up, placing me over his shoulder and running, he ran into the wood, we heard the people who hit our car come after us.
“What do they want?” I ask him worried.
“To kill us,” he says, and keep on running.
“How are we getting away from them?” I ask him trembling with fear, Milo was right, this is dangerous.
“I’m going to shift, you’re getting on my back and we’re running the hell out of here,” Theo says.
“And what about James?” I ask him.
“Probably dead, let’s cut our loses and get going,” Theo says and I nod unable to use any real words right now.
He changed into his wolf form, I looked at Theo’s wolf with fear, I’m still scared of him, I’m scared of all wolves, but especially him, Theo put his head down, helping me get on his back, I held tight to him as he started to run, I wanted to get back home to Milo.
