“I do not understand your reasons for not letting me see your boss” Rachael yelled at the security guard who had adamantly refused to let her see Liam for the past few hours. “Just tell him he has a visitor, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that”
The security guard balled his fist, hitting it on his table to let out his frustration. “How many times do you want me to explain to you?…. I said the company is not in a state to welcome visitors… The boss himself also gave orders not to receive any outsiders”
“Hmph…” Rachael scoffed in annoyance, she knew her tantrums were just for nothing. Liam’s company was in no condition to attend to any customers and visitors. But she needed to see him and the guard wasn’t making the situation any better.
She walked over to the orchard of flowers planted around the company and sat on a part of the block surrounding it. She slowly removed her heels, rubbing her feet gently to relieve it of the numbness. “Arrrrrghhhh” she growled in frustration, her mind reminiscing on the past events.
Suddenly, the company’s gate opened up for a Maybach to drive out. Rachael jumped up on her feet, fully aware that only someone of high class could drive a car like that. An idea instantly crossed her mind, making her run towards the car which came to an abrupt stop.
“Are you crazy?” A man who seemed to be the driver, came down from the car with a frown on his face, his voice scolding. “If you want to die so badly, why can’t you just go jump in a river or something?”
Rachael who was still recovering from the shock, stuttered. “I. I’m sorry” she apologized. “Is Mr. Callahan in the car, I want to speak with him?”
“What?… Who are you and what makes you think you can see the boss anytime you want?” The driver berated her with a scornful tone, eyeing her suspiciously. “You need to be careful”
“I.. I.. ” Rachael was tongue-tied as she didn’t know how to introduce herself. After thinking for a while, she decided to just tell him the truth. “My name is Rachael, the personal assistant of Damien Russo who is the CEO of the Russo enterprise… Please, tell him I have some important information for him”
“Haa.. what a lame joke?.. how can my boss’s rival send his assistant to come here alone?… You better leave” the driver uttered with an amused expression on his face, but his tone was becoming aggressive. “You need to leave now, I can’t afford to lose my job”
“I’ll take responsibility” Rachael blurted out without thinking and instantly realized that her words were stupid.
“Take responsibility for me?.. what do you want to do?.. give me another job?.. you can try harder” the driver retorted, obviously offended by her words.
“Brian” a cool baritone voice came from the car.
“Yes, boss” The driver quickly answered, peeping through the backseat window, probably explaining the situation to the man in the car.
Few minutes later, the driver moved away and opened the car door, from which a man alighted. His sharp gaze scanned around until it landed on Rachael who shivered in fear. His footsteps echoed through the silent night as he walked towards Rachael whose knees were already shaking in fear.
“Erm.. Mr. Callahan, right?” Rachel stammered as she took several steps backward away from the man who had a frightening expression on his face. “I came to see you about….”
“Did your boss send you here to spite me?” Liam stone cold voice resonated through her eardrums causing a rush an adrenaline in her body. “Go back and tell him that the war has just begun.. he’ll hear from me very soon”
“I. I didn’t come here on his behalf” Racheal forcefully pronounced those words as she fell on her butt, her face reddened in embarrassment. “He doesn’t know I’m here”
“Yeah, what do I expect from a follower of a cunning man apart from lies” Liam snorted, his voice aggressive. “You should leave before I lose my temper”
“Wait…” Rachael yelled at the top of her voice as she watched Liam strut back to his car. “I have something important to tell you… It’s very useful and I’m sure you wouldn’t be disappointed”
She kept on shouting after him but he refused to stop.
“Isabelle is missing” Rachael dropped the bombshell and this time it worked because Liam froze on his spot, wondering how Isabelle had gotten herself associated with his rival’s lackeys. His heart wanted to believe her but his calculative mind was in opposition. He tilted his head in her direction and glared at her.
“Don’t you dare mess with me or I’ll send your battered body to the doorstep of your boss” Liam uttered, his voice laced with threat that caused Rachael’s stomach to churn with great hesitation in her heart.
“I.. I. I’m no.. not messing with you, it’s the truth” Rachael stuttered, hugging her body tightly to rid herself of the chilling atmosphere that surrounded her. “She got kidnapped on the day you sent her away”
“If she was kidnapped, I would have known” Liam retorted but a wavering glint flashed through his eyes. “You do not have to go to this extent to lie to me”
“I’m not lying and I have proof, if you want to see it” Rachael defended herself, her voice hurt from the accusations. She immediately brought out a flash drive from her jacket and raised it in the air. “This is it, the proof you want… I can assure you that there’s nothing I’m hiding from you”
Liam’s gaze darkened as he stared at the so-called evidence in her hand. His heart was thumping against his chest, fear clouded his mind at the thought of Rachael’s words being the bitter truth. He inhaled sharply and said to her,”if this turns out to be a sham, be ready to face the consequences of your actions”
“Noted sir. I have nothing to hide” Rachael stood up from the cold floor, her voice filled with confidence and her gaze resolute. “I have other benefits in store for you, that is, if you’re interested”
