“Gina, what took you so long?…. I’ve been waiting for you” Damien uttered with a bright light lit up in his eyes the moment Gina sauntered into his office, his voice was full of excitement. “I have good news”
“Really?… Tell me about it” Gina uttered, her eyes flashing with interest as it lingered on Damien whose heart was leaping for joy. She was quite normal today, seems she had gotten a hang of it. “is it about our last conversation?”
“Yes, it is.. those greedy bastards lack intelligence. Just a simple invite and they all come running with their tails in between their legs” Damien replied, his voice laced with mockery, his eyes glittering as he stared at Gina. “They signed the agreement after realizing they had made a big mistake leaving the Callahan’s enterprise… I also added a five-year ultimatum before the result of their invested shares started to show”
“That’s indeed good news” Gina replied, an evil smile plastered on her face. “Now, let’s see how long that Liam Callahan would last on his throne… Soon, all his wealth will be ours”
“I know darling. But it’s not over yet” Damien replied, his countenance turned somber, his gaze flashing with a mysterious glint. “All of this is just the battle on the surface. Something for the public to see”
Gina arched an eyebrow in confusion, pondering on what Damien was talking about. The plan was to make him go bankrupt and absorb his company and other properties in his name which was already in progress, so what else was involved?
“Damien, I’m confused” Gina voiced out her thoughts. “What else do we need to do?”
Damien sighed deeply before giving a response, saying “I’m talking about the underworld, Gina… The underworld will be the next and toughest battle. The scandal issue is just the tip of the iceberg.”
Damien thought of something before continuing. “For Liam Callahan to bow on his knees, to crumble into dust, we need to cut off his roots… Though, I don’t know much about the Callahan family roots, I know it is the foundation of their wealth. They are also the main reason why the Callahan family still existed even after their family head died years ago”
Gina was dumbfounded by the new chapter she never knew was present in the story, she seemed lost. “I don’t understand, so there’s still much to be done?”
“Yes, my dear” Damien nodded in affirmation which gave Gina the cold chills as she pondered on how long it would take and how long she could keep herself sane without anyone finding her out.
“I need to gather all the resources I have to fight this war. Liam won’t hesitate to hit us with everything he has neither should we” Damien added after a moment of silence, his voice stern and serious.
“That’s a whole lot of headache” Gina muttered, massaging her throbbing forehead with her fingers. “I can’t wait for it to end”
“It depends on how fast both sides move” Damien replied, his voice distant as he wondered why he was explaining oral things to her. “We just need to be ready for any attack… That reminds me, do you have a gun with you for protection?”
“Yes, I do” Gina replied, her tone filled with sincerity. “It was one of my late husband’s belongings. Though, I haven’t touched it yet”
“Well, now, you will be needing it” Damien retorted. “Just in case an enemy attacks, you know what to do”
“Erm.. Damien, I haven’t seen Rachael today. Didn’t she attend the meeting with the investors?” Gina asked with a questioning gaze, suspicion rising in her heart.
“Yes, she did attend the meeting but she took permission for something I can’t even recall… I do not need her anymore, her job is done but she can keep the position”
“You’re such a sly one, aren’t you?” Gina uttered, her voice laced with a bit of teasing before a thought crossed her mind. “Don’t you think Rachael has been taking frequent permission lately?”
Damien thought about her questions and replied,” You’re right. I should stop granting it and I will also speak with her tomorrow”
“Yes, that should do the trick.. so tell me Damien, what other secrets do you have?” Gina asked, her tone playful yet serious. “I want to know what you’re hiding”
“Hahaha” Damien bursted into laughter, his tone laced with amusement. “You’ll get to know as things make progress. You just have to be patient and observant”
“Yeah,” Gina sighed and shrugged her shoulders. “I should get going now”
****
“Gina, is that you?” A male voice called out to her as she walked alone by the roadside. She slowly turned to identify the unknown individual who sounded familiar.
“Felix” she uttered, her voice laced with displeasure, her face hardened with a frown. “What do you want or are you stalking me?… I told you I…..”
“No, I’m not stalking you” Felix interrupted her, defending himself. “I was on my way home when I saw you walking alone. Do you need a ride?”
“No thanks,” Gina replied curtly. “Go straight to the point. You and I both know a ride is just an excuse.. what do you want?”
“I’m deeply concerned about your health,” Felix revealed, his voice laced with concern. “Your health is deteriorating day by day. You won’t know until the final relapse when everything becomes a case of an asylum”
“You don’t have to worry about me, I have resumed my medications” Gina responded, her tone nonchalant as she turned to continue her journey.
“Hold on, Gina. The medication is not a guarantee, you should come to the hospital for a check-up regularly” Felix advised, his tone stern and serious. “You shouldn’t take this lightly”
“I’ve heard you, Felix.. is that all you stopped me for?.. just that?” She asked, her voice filled with annoyance. “Don’t do that again”
“I’m sorry, Gina. But I’ve been wanting to give you this” Felix stated, bringing out a bottle of pills from his coat pocket. “You can add this to your medication, the dosage is written on it.. please, don’t miss a bit of it when you start taking it”
“Alright, thank you Felix. I’ll consider” Gina replied, taking the bottle from him and turning towards the direction of my house.
