“Tch.. she’s quite stubborn” Kyle clenched his teeth in annoyance as he gazed at the unconscious woman lying in the backseat of the car. “I hope she doesn’t wake up until we get to our destination… I’m not ready for her drama”
“That’s the exact reason why I knocked her out”Max who was in the driver’s seat, spoke in agreement, his eyes fixed on the road. “Where exactly are we heading to?”
Kyle was a bit confused by the question. “You can see it right here on the GPS, just follow the directions”
“That wasn’t what I meant” Max uttered with a deep sigh. “What exactly am I to expect?.. you know we need a place where Liam wouldn’t be able to find us. it won’t take long before he finds out she’s missing”
“It’s a harbour” Kyle revealed. “You will travel by ship to an island where there are no electricity or technological devices.. I’ll be your eyes and ears here until it’s time for you both to come back to the city”
“A ship?” Max questioned, his voice laced with a hint of suspicion as he glanced at Kyle sitting in the passenger seat. “How did you get to own a ship?”
“It’s one of the many presents I got from our beloved Liam” Kyle chuckled heartily, reminiscing on the past. “Too bad, we’re not together anymore.. it would have been more thrilling”
“A gift from Liam?.. isn’t that risky? What if he’s planted something in it?”Max asked, expressing his doubts. “We can’t afford to make any single mistake”
“We won’t,” Kyle remarked. “I already had it upgraded and checked out.. even if he hid something in it, the technicians would have gotten rid of it”
“If you say so” Max replied, his voice carrying a hint of reluctance as their chitchat suddenly died down, replaced by the heavy breathing of the occupants in the car.
A few hours later
“This is the place, right?” Max asked with uncertainty in his voice as he pulled them over to a car pack. “It looks like a harbor”
“Yes, it is”Kyle affirmed, opening the car door and alighting from it. “Leave the woman in the car. We’ll come to pick her up when we’ve settled other things”
“Alright,” Max replied, walking behind Kyle who led him to wherever he knew he was going.
“Good day, Francis” Kyle walked up to a man in a sailor uniform and shook hands with him. “It’s been such a long time… I hope my ship hasn’t been sold?” He asked with a humorous tone which made a warm smile curve on the sailor’s face.
“It sure has been a long time, Mr. Brenett. Welcome,” Francis responded with the same energy. “And as for your ship, it’s still intact, just the way you left. But we did offer the maintenance services you paid for”
“That’s good news” Kyle let out a throaty chuckle as he turned his gaze to Max who stood silent all along. “This is my friend, Max. We also have another companion but she’s asleep in the car”
“Oh! It’s nice to have you here” Francis shook Max’s hand.
Kyle’s expression turned serious as he wanted to get to the main purpose of coming there. “Erm. Francis, please tell one of your men to guard the car till we are done”
“No problem” Francis readily agreed without inquiring what the need for them was. He signaled to two of his men who walked over to him and nodded attentively to the words whispered into their ears. By the time he was done ordering his men, he reverted his gaze to Kyle and Max.
“Let’s go inside. We have a casino and lots of drinks” He revealed, his tone enthusiastic and welcoming. “Would like to check them out?”
“Damn we don’t.. ” Max was saying when he felt a grip on his shoulder, turning to see Kyle giving him a warning sign to stop.
“I wish we could, Francis. But we don’t have that much time, we need to leave this city with immediate effect and I believe you can help me with that” Kyle explained with a serious but gentle tone in his voice.
Francis nodded in understanding but was still a little confused by the need to leave urgently. “I hope nothing is going on?… It won’t be that easy to transport you people away from here without going through the normal procedure, especially because it is a private ship”
“I know, Francis” Kyle replied with his eyelids twitching in anger, the sailor’s words were getting on his nerves, but he could effortlessly keep himself in check. “I know that we’ll be enough, that’s the main reason why I came to you… You’re the only one who can help us”
Francis hesitated for a little bit before giving a reply, saying “I can help you but it’s going to cost you a lot”
“Hahaha,” Kyle roared out in laughter, giving Francis a knowing look. “You should have just said that from the beginning… Of course, I’ve got you covered. You have nothing to worry about, just do your job well and you’ll get the reward for your hard work”
“Alright, Mr. Brenett” Francis replied with a smile on his lips, his voice laced with happiness and satisfaction. “So, it’s three people, right?”
Kyle cast a glance on Max who replied. “No, just two people. I and the lady in the car, Kyle is not coming with us”
The sailor looked at Kyle to confirm Max’s words.
“Yes, I have something I need to take care of here. I can’t leave” Kyle nodded in affirmation of Max’s words. “I want them to leave immediately, Francis. I don’t want disappointment, not even the slightest bit of it”
“Noted, Mr. Brenett” Francis replied with confidence in his tone. “You have nothing to worry about. I’ll tell my men to prepare everything they need”
“Don’t mess things up” Max muttered to Kyle as they both watched the sailor issue orders to his men on the harbor. “And don’t you dare ditch me”
“I won’t, sir” Kyle responded humorously, then suddenly became serious. “We’ve already started, there’s no going back. Just make sure you keep that stubborn woman in check.. everything is there, waiting for you. You know how to contact me if you need anything”
