Jordan POV.
The morning came in very slowly, very painfully, I doubted we’d survive the night, but look at us, still alive, still breathing, I moved off Micah, my back was killing me, it hurt and ached so badly, I tried to shake the snow off me, but it was too thick over my back. My muscles were so stiff, they were painful to move, I tried to move around, trying to get my body to warm itself up, that’s when I felt another wolf coming toward me, nuzzling me, helping me warm up, Micah was licking my neck and face, pushing all of the snow off my face.
I wished we were back at home, I wish I could do more than just nuzzle him, I want to love him, I want to mark him as mine and take him all to myself, but I can’t do that until we end this competition, we have to win it first. For now, we had to move on and keep moving to get to the finish line, we need to win this, but first, we need to eat, we have to eat, I nuzzled Micah, growling and crouching down, pretending to be hunting, he nodded his head, getting the idea.
We both moved in the snow, after the blizzard last night, there might be no chance for us to find any kind of prey for us to hunt, no bunnies were found anywhere, no bigger animal would come out in this cold, but we need to eat something, anything for us to keep going, to keep moving we need our energy. I saw Micah pouncing down, ready to attack, it was a bird, not the biggest animal, but it’s one that he found, I saw him ready to attack, and then he did attack, but missed badly, falling down on his face, his face getting buried in the snow, I couldn’t help but chuckle, he’s cute, not a hunter material, but cute.
I went out next trying to find anything, but all the small animals are out of the cold, we can’t find any to be able to hunt, I went back to Micah, shifting to my human form to be able to talk to him, although shifting took too much of my energy.
“Don’t,” I tell Micah, he’ll be too tired if he shifts too.
“We’re too far away aren’t we?” I ask him, we’re in the middle of nowhere, all I could see was vast whiteness, they’ve thrown us in the middle of nowhere literally. Micah only nodded his head yes, agreeing with me, that we are too far away.
“We need to eat Micah, we can’t keep going, only God knows what your father has waiting for us, this is going to take us more than one day,” I say, Micah, nods again.
“I’m going to shift again, stay in wolf form, it’s safer that way, we might be able to find a deer or something else to be able to hunt,” I say, Micah just whines.
“I promise, if we survive, I’ll teach my baby alpha how to hunt correctly,” I promise him making him roll his eyes at me.
I shifted back to my wolf form, feeling weaker now, we eat often when we shift back and forth from our two forms, I led the way with Micah staying behind me, in the middle of nowhere, there must be an animal roaming free. We walked and jogged for a solid two hours, all we could see is the white snow and the dead forest, we took another step, but then I heard a twig breaking behind me, I stood still, Micah walked right into me, he stopped and huffed looking at me annoyed, but I only shook my head at him, I heard another step on the snow, one that wasn’t ours, my ears laid flat on my head, listening to the sound, it was coming from my left, I turned there, seeing a deer, he looked to be young.
I pointed to Micah, he only nodded, I know now he’s bad at hunting, but I need to do this on my own, he could help once I get him pinned down, I bent my knee and made sure that the deer couldn’t see me, I was hidden with the snow, I waited for my moment, the animal was busy eating the tree bark, that’s when I attacked, I jumped and bitten down on his neck, I made it quick and painless, breaking his neck quickly, avoiding any unnecessary torture.
I pulled back, letting Micah take the first bite, making sure he was eating, although the deer was big enough for the both of us to share, I need him to eat first, the raw meat wasn’t that good, it’s tough under our teeth, but we need to eat. Micah took one bite and pushed me back toward the dead animal, waiting for me to eat, we took turns eating, one bite at a time until we were both full, the food helped keep us warm too.
We went back to walking, moving hoping we were going through the correct way, I did have a few doubts about whether we were moving the correct way or not, but we had no way of knowing, we should just try. We heard another step on the snow and even saw another deer, but I didn’t try to attack him, we had our fill of the food, we don’t go on the kill for the joy of it, we let the animal be and kept moving, we walked for what ten minutes before we heard another step on the snow, I ignored the sound, I was sure it’s just some kind of animal looking for their fill in the snow.
But then it hit, just above my head, a bullet, it hit the tree trunk, leaving a big hole in the middle, I didn’t have enough time to think this through, another bullet followed by yells, hunters! I looked at Micah, motioning for him to start running, he ran ahead, me following after him, he was fast, that’s good. I wanted to suggest that we shift back to our human form and tell them they are hunting the wrong person, but another human voice joined them, one that made my blood run cold.
“It’s them, we need to kill them both,” Joshua said, the jerk, he’s on this with the hunters.
“You don’t give the orders here wolf,” the hunter answers him.
“Remember it’s my alpha who allows you to hunt in these lands, and if I don’t make it alpha, you can forget about it,” Joshua says, I pushed Micah to run quicker, the cheater!
