Jordan POV.
I started to walk, the sun was starting to settle for the day, I’d been knocked off twice today, the day is passing too quickly, we need to move, but I had no idea where to go or what to do, Micah was looking at me all weird, I had to ask him what’s up with him.
“Just say it, Micah,” I encourage him, he should just say it and be over with it.
“Why are you doing this? You want to be alpha?” my mate asks me again, I just shake my head no at him, he got every right to question my underlying goals.
“Micah, I never wanted to be alpha, but I want to keep you safe,” I assure my baby boy, but he looks at me weird.
“And if I won?” he asks me, if?
“When you win baby, when you win,” I assure him, he’s going to win, I won’t let him lose, I’ll always make sure he’d won.
“And when I won? I’d be your alpha?” he asks me, I couldn’t help but smile, that’s what he means.
I stood up and pushed Micah to stand in front of me, I went down on one knee, and he looked at me confused, but I just smiled at him.
“I Jordan Nightingale, promise my mate Micah to help him get to the alpha position, and when you do, I’ll kneel for my new alpha,” I say holding his hand, kissing it, but then I stood up, towering over him.
“And then I’ll love my little boy, and take him over my knee when needed, you’ll be my alpha, but also my mate and little,” I assure him, his eyes went soft, the softest I’ve ever seen them.
“What if I’m not strong enough? What if I fail?” he asks me, but he won’t, he got me with him.
“You got me, I’ll help you, I’ll push you forward, always,” I assure him, kissing his nose now and making him smile.
“But first honey, we need to win,” I remind him we got a competition to win, we need to get somewhere.
“What do we need to do?” I ask him again, we’re in the middle of nowhere, I know every alpha can choose whichever way he wants to test his heir.
“We need to make it back,” Micah explains to me, make it back, it shouldn’t be that hard.
“It shouldn’t be that hard,” I say out loud, but Micah just shakes his head at me, he doesn’t agree.
“You don’t know dad, we got hell to pass to make it back, we’re in the middle of nowhere,” Micah explains to me, it’s okay we can do it.
“Let’s go then,” I hold Micah’s hand and start moving.
“Is it just the two of us?” I ask him.
“No Joshua is somewhere around here, when I woke up, he was still out of it, I dragged you away to make sure he won’t be able to hurt you,” Micah says.
“Such a good alpha baby, such a good mate,” I say pulling him toward my chest, kissing his lips, making him blush.
“When I make it alpha, I’m gonna make it a rule that you kiss me all the time,” Micah says making me chuckle.
“I’ll kiss you all you want baby,” I agree with him, no need for a rule for me to kiss him all the time.
We walked for another hour, but the weather was getting worse, the temperature have dropped, fog have covered the trails and blocked our views, our human forms couldn’t take the cold longer, we’d die, we need to find a shelter.
“There’s a storm, we’re going to die if we stay in the open,” I tell Micah.
“Should we shift?” Micah asks me, in wolf form we got a better chance at winning this.
“Yes, we might need to hold still, we’d move again once the storm has settled,” I agree with Micah, I shifted first, and Micah followed. We both started to run, we need to move further as much as possible before the storm got too bad for us to move.
Even in my wolf form, I could feel the cold, the snow started to fall slowly, it wasn’t too bad for us, we could still move, I saw Micah pushing himself forward, he fell a few times but I pushed him up, making sure he’s okay. But the storm got worse, the snow went from falling slowly and beautifully down on us, it turned into painful snowdrops, the air picked up, the snow was hitting my face painfully, blinding me completely, Micah was whining, I kept touching him, I kept making sure he’s right next to me, with the white snow covering his almost white fur, I couldn’t risk losing him.
The weather was too bad for us to keep on moving we had to find a shelter, there was no cave for us to hide in, there was no shelter away from the snow, the best option I could find happened to be a tree groove, small, tight, but it kept most of the snow blizzard away. I pushed Micah in first, hiding him fully, I pushed my body against his, my back still out against the snow and the coldness, but my face and chest were against Micah, keeping him warm.
But even with both our bodies cuddled, the cold was too bad for two wolves to be out in the open, Micah’s teeth were chattering, my whole body was trembling, I closed my eyes trying to breathe in his scent, I have to stay strong.
My eyes closed and opened, there was no moonlight on this cold night, my brain was taking me in and off this night, I could see memories of my family, of Ashlynn, and a few dreams of my mate, future memories that I hope I’ll live to see them, I’ll live long enough to make these dreams come true.
The wind noise was a scary one, it felt like the worse horror movie I’ve ever heard and watched, Micah whined a few times, I tried to nuzzle him, but the fit was too tight, I couldn’t move to help him, I hoped my presence would help him.
The storm got worse before it got better, it got worse enough that I started to lose feeling with my paws, I tried to wiggle them, to keep the blood flowing, but the night was cold and long, it felt like it would never end, I sent a few prayers up to the heavens, hoping we’d survive.
