Jordan POV.
“Leave everything behind, let’s go,” I tell Micah, it’s time to leave this damn pack behind, time to leave the pain, and trust issues behind, he can trust me, I’m his mate, and I’m the one who’d never hurt him.
“Jordan…” Micah stops me, is he having second thoughts? It’s not the best timing for this, the alpha and everyone else is busy with their training, and they won’t notice us taking off, leaving this god damned place.
“Yeah?” I answer him, finger crossed he won’t ask to stay.
“Dad… he’s going to claim war on us, he’s going to hunt us,” Micah says but I didn’t care about that, I’m not some weak puppy, I’m a wolf, a strong dominant who got to keep his mate safe, and I’m not going to give out on him.
“Let him start a war, I’ll burn the whole world just to see your smile,” I promise him, I meant every word I said, I don’t care.
“Are you sure?” Micah asks me, sounding unsure, sounding afraid, I pulled him toward my chest, hugging him tightly, breathing in his scent, we both had the rogue stench over us, but underneath the stench, I could smell him, how sweet he smells.
“Let’s go, baby, let’s go home so I can spoil you,” I tell him with a smile.
“Home?” he asks me, confused.
“Back at my place, at my pack, I’ll show you what a real home is,” I promise him, all due disrespect to his pack and his lunatic father, he needs to experience the real-life, the real love.
“Okay, let’s go,” he says finally agreeing with leaving, we went toward the house, we moved toward the garage, I’m searching for my car, I came here in a car, if I drove, breaking just a couple spreading limits, I’ll be home in just a couple hours.
We found my car, it looked the same way I left it, I got in the driver’s seat and searched for the key, they were hidden under the mirror, I got them and put them in the ignition, turning it on, but it didn’t turn on, I tried to turn the key again, but it didn’t turn on, I turned to Micah with worry, maybe it’s not turning on since it’s been a while. I got out of the car, opening the engine hood, I didn’t know much about cars, but when I looked in, I knew there was a big part missing, the part that starts the car, he took my battery out of the car, that crazy son of a bitch!
“Fuck!!! You crazy bastard,” I yelled, angrily, Micah looked worried and scared, I wasn’t mad at him, but his father is full-on crazy.
“He did this?” Micah asks sounding confused, doesn’t he know what his father is capable of, I just shook my head.
“We don’t have enough time for this, we need to shift and put as much distance between us and them,” I inform my mate.
“Okay, let’s go,” Micah says, he sounds like he’s in a haze like he’s lost, but this is the best for us, he needs to trust me on this, I shifted first, standing in my wolf form in front of him, he too shifted, we started to run away from the pack. Micah led the way, he knew how to avoid the ones who are on patrol, wolves in this pack seem to be on steroids, they are bloodthirsty and trying to attack anything that moves.
Micah took us toward a cave, it was on the edge of the pack territory, hidden from the rest of the pack, hidden from all of the enforcers, Micah got in first, followed by me, he shifted to his human form to be able to talk to me, but he was shorter than me, and the cave was too low, making him hunch down, he looked at me with a sad smile.
“This is my secret place, it’s where I come to hide,” Micah says, I whined, and got closer to him, nuzzling his neck, his next secret place would be our room, our bed, our safe place, with him in my arms.
“Leaving in the dark would be dangerous, the night would fall soon, we can spend the night here, and start moving tomorrow, no one knows this place but me,” Micah says, he was right, during the winter, the day only lasts for a few hours before the night falls, running in the woods would be dangerous for the both of us. I nod, and nuzzle him closer, making sure to keep him warm, it’s cold outside and about to get colder, Micah sighs, and hug me back, he doesn’t shift back, I expected him to shift too, but he didn’t instead he stayed in his human form, hugging me, my fur was enough to keep the both of us warm for the night.
Micah was talking to me, telling me about how many times he had to come here, how many times he was thrown out of the house during his father’s angry outbursts. But he never had any of the warmth my body offered, I was angry, I growled, he’d never be thrown anywhere but in my arms. Micah kept talking until he fell asleep in my arms, we’re going to leave with the first sun rays, we’re going to run back home, I closed my eyes breathing my mate in, but I couldn’t sleep, I woke up to every sound and whisper until the sun started to shine, I nuzzled Micah’s neck until he woke up, it’s time to leave.
“Morning,” he says shivering with the cold, I nodded toward the forest, it’s time to leave, he nodded, shifting back to his wolf form, we both took off, running in the wood. Micah led us until we left the pack territory, that’s when I took charge, I ran first, leading us out of the territory, back toward mine. We ran for two hours before we heard noises, behind us, we shared a look but kept moving, maybe it was just another animal, we’re not the only creature in these woods, it’s nothing.
We kept running, but the noise came again, it was coming from behind Micah, worried about him, I pushed him to the other side, putting myself in the way of danger, away from Micah, he looked at me with confusion but I just shook my head moving. I was looking at Micah, that’s when I was ambushed, they came from my side, jumping on me, pinning me down, I growled and barked, wanting to tell Micah to run off, but something covered my face, until everything turned dark.
